Degassing station breakdowns can be dangerous to the operator health and the environment. Programmable logic controllers (PLCs) are key modules of manufacturing control systems that are applied in the complex oil and gas units to reduce manpower and unnecessary faults. However, feeding a PLC with data is a difficult part due to the need of system log files which records all events that occur in the oil fields and provide visibility to a given environment. Moreover, most critical chemical processing plants and oil distributions are visualized and inspected by Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA). These systems have been focused on safety, and there are issues that they could be the target of worldwide terrorists. Along with the frequently rising internet-related attacks, there is indication that our degassing stations may similarly be susceptible; for that reason, it is essential to secure PLC and SCADA from undesired incidents. Recently, machine learning (ML) has been increasing interest in industrial systems to detect, identify, and store information. Therefore, we propose to apply an advance ML based on deep neural networks to the PLC system with the purpose of: 1) detecting anomalous or irregular PLC actions; 2) Optimizing the operation of systems and its facilities; 3) allowing the equipment to respond to changing and novel scenarios; 4) Making predictive maintenance possible. The SIMATIC S7-1214 CPU universal TIA platform was used as the main decision-making module. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and utility of the proposed approach to process large amounts of data analytics and sensor measurements, allows it to spot potential problems and provide possible solutions.

Karst features in the upper part of Mishrif carbonate reservoir can commonly create substantial vugs, pores and fissures and, thus, increasing the porosity and enhancing reservoir connectivity and permeability, this features were formed normally as a result of the carbonate rocks dissolution under the action of meteoric waters during very long periods of emersion spanning from Late Cenomanian to Turonian (about 4.5 Million years). This study deals with the presence of the karst features in Zubair oil field, southern Iraq, where Karst features were observed in the center and northern parts of the field close to the top of Mishrif Formation in most of the cored wells. Characterization of that feature can be achieved from static data at wellbore scale from core, and logs (conventional and non-conventional), and dynamic data such as mud losses, well tests combined with production logs (PLT) in addition to Seismic data. Beside the positive and economic effect of Karst, there is negative effect which includes causing mud losses during drilling in Mishrif Formation because of low reservoir pore pressure, Therefore, acid soluble cement plugs were used to heal that losses to continue drilling.

With the rapidly increased global energy demand, great attention has been focused on utilizing nanotechnology and particularly nanofluids in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) to produce more oil from low-productivity oil reservoirs. Nanofluid flooding has introduced as one of the promising methods for enhanced oil recovery using environment-friendly nanoparticles (NPs) to be as an innovative-alternative for chemical methods of EOR. This work investigates the synergistic effects of anionic surfactant and hydrophilic silica nanoparticles on the stability and the mechanical behavior of oil in water (O/W) emulsions for their application in EOR.
To achieve this, an extensive series of experiments were conducted at a wide range of temperatures (23 – 70 °C) and ambient pressure to systematically evaluate the stability and the viscoelastic properties of the oil in water (O/W) emulsion with the presence of hydrophilic silica nanoparticles and an anionic surfactant. In this context, the initial oil to water volume ratio was 25:75. Sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) was used as the anionic surfactant and n-decane was used as model oil. A wide concentration ranges of NPs (0.01 – 0.2 wt%) and surfactant (0.1 – 0.3 wt%) were used to formulate different emulsions. For stability measurements, a dynamic light scattering and zetasizer were used to measure the particle size distribution and zeta potential respectively. Creaming and phase behaviors were also investigated. The viscoelastic measurements were conducted using Discovery Hybrid Rheometer.
Results show that in the presence of surfactant, and NPs mitigates the coalescence of dispersed oil droplets giving high promises in EOR applications. Further, over the tested range of temperatures, the viscosity of O/W emulsion remains stable which indicates thermal stability.
Despite studies examining the use of nanoparticle-surfactant combination in sub-surface applications, no reported data is currently available, to the best of our knowledge, about the potential synergistic effect of this combination on the stability and viscoelastic properties of O/W emulsion. This study gives the first insight on nanoparticle-surfactant synergistic effect on oil in water (O/W) emulsion for EOR applications.

This work was conducted to study limestone rock wettability alteration to enhance oil recovery by flooding using different Nano silica (NS) sizes suspended in saline water and compared with flooding solution of polyethylene glycol (PEG) polymer and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) surfactant, the stability of nanofluids measured by zeta potential. In the flooding system, the secondary recovery by silica nanofluids (0.01 wt. % NS concentration) achieved an oil recovery of 35vol. % and 26.08 vol. % for 10, 52 nm after primary recovery respectively, while PEG polymer and SDS surfactant achieved oil recovery of 5 vol. % and 10 vol. % only respectively. The stability of pressure difference approved that silica nanoparticle never causes any plug or damage for the carbonate rocks.

In this study oil-soluble (RP6000 and MAKS-9150) emulsion breakers have been selected for separation of water from Kirkuk / baba (50oC), Khbbaz (40oC) crude oil emulsions and their activity measured using the Bottle test method at different concentration and found the activity of RP6000 demulsified best than MAKS-9150 emulsion breakers. RP6000 separated water (100%) in (15)min., (40)ppm and in (60)min., (20)ppm of demulsified for Kirkuk/ baba Crude oil and for khbbaz Crude oil the (100%) water separation was in (15)min., (80)ppm and in (30)min., (60)ppm and PH effect, salinity, temperature and density of emulsion stability depending on literature were explained for Optimization.

At the beginning of petroleum industry evolving the regulation did not focus on environmental issues, it was, mainly, looking to natural resources (oil and gas) production and protection. By the time, environmental and safety implications started to be the highest priority, as a result of undesirable impact of oil operations on plant. Huge numbers of dry wells were abandoned according to environmental regulations to prevent side effects which involved contamination of shallow water aquifers, surface seepage of hydrocarbon (whether oil or gas) or salty water, potential hazardous of explosion or soil contaminations, and water contamination at offshore unplugged wells. Based on the hazards above, the main objectives of plugging and abandonment operations is to achieve isolation and protection of all fresh and near fresh water zones, and all future commercial zones, as well as prevent leaks in perpetuity from or into the well and remove surface equipment and cut pipe to a mandated level below the surface.
In this paper, an Iraqi oil well was studied as a case study of abandonment processes. The well represents a danger to people, environment and subsurface fresh water; due to unusual raised pressure in different annuluses and copious surface leak from wellhead components while production. Worthily to say that, it is seldom in Iraq to abandon the wells in current time, according to good reservoirs situation. The reasons and justifications of this well plugging, depending on economic analysis and investigation were studied, and explained, according to international practices and procedures of such treatments. The workover option is most economic option, but it was eliminated due to failure in ensuring the well safety and severe environmental impact which expected. According to investigation, pressure and laboratory tests were revealed that P&A is mandatory for this well as soon as possible.

Burial history, thermal maturity, and timing of hydrocarbon generation were modeled for five key source-rock horizons at five locations in Northern Iraq. Constructed burial-history locations from east to west in the region are: Taq Taq-1; Qara Chugh-2; Zab-1; Guwair-2; and Shaikhan-2 wells. Generally, the thermal maturity status of the burial history sites based on increasing thermal maturity is Shaikhan-2 < Zab-1 < Guwair-2 < Qara Chugh-2 < Taq Taq-1. In well Qara Chugh-2, oil generation from Type-IIS kerogen in Geli Khana Formation started in the Late Cretaceous. Gas generation occurred at Qara Chugh-2 from Geli Khana Formation in the Late Miocene. The Kurra Chine Formation entered oil generation window at Guwair-2 and Shaikhan-2 at 64 Ma and 46 Ma, respectively. At Zab-1, the Baluti Formation started to generate gas at 120 Ma. The Butmah /Sarki reached peak oil generation at 45 Ma at Taq Taq-1. The main source rock in the area, Sargelu Formation started to generate oil at 47, 51, 33, 28, and 28 Ma at Taq Taq-1, Guwair-2, Shaikhan-2, Qara Chugh-2, and Zab-1, respectively. The results of the models demonstrated that peak petroleum generation from the Jurassic oil- and gas-prone source rocks in the most profound parts of the studied area occurred from Late Cretaceous to Middle Oligocene. At all localities, the Sargelu Formation is still within the oil window apart from Taq Taq-1 and Qara Chugh-2 where it is in the oil cracking and gas generation phase.

In this study a nano epoxy coating had been prepared to be used for the protection of the internal and external surfaces of storage tank (low carbon steel) from corrosion. A polymeric coating was reinforced with fillers such as red iron oxide, Zinc phosphate and nano titanium dioxide (TiO2) which have been used as anticorrosion. Pieces from low carbon steel was picked from storage tank and coated with two layers, the first layer was prepared from organic polymer (epoxy) with red iron oxide, the second layer was prepared from epoxy with (a nano titanium dioxide and Zinc phosphate).
The fillers weight percentages were (0, 7, 10 and 13 % wt). The nano epoxy coating gave good results in limiting the corrosion, the corrosion rate results show that the best percentage of additives was (13,10 % wt) in salt solution 1.0 %wt ( NaCl, Na2SO3 and KCl ).The coating samples were immersed for 3 month at 25 OC in gas oil and cutting oil then was characterized using spectroscopic method (FTIR), physical and chemical tests add to characterization of particles size was done by SEM. The samples of TiO2 were characterized by XRD and evaluation of corrosion was made by using static potential test.

New green natural particles as corrosion inhibitor namely, macromolecules were incorporated beginning from 4-hydroxycoumarin with 4-nitrobenzaldehyde in the presence of glacial acid (1) then synthesis with methyl bromoacetate after that this compound (2) used to synthesis of 2,2'-(3,3'-((4-nitrophenyl)methylene)bis(2-oxo-2H-chromene-4,3 diyl))bis(oxy)diacetohydrazide (3) when was refluxed with hydrazine hydrate when compound(2) refluxed with HCl to obtain compound (4) and tested all the synthesis compounds on mild steel (MS) in 1 M HCl, 1M H2SO4 media by a weight loss method and identification of the surface technique employee scanning/electron/microscope (SEM) studies. The weight loss investigation demonstrated that inhibition performances have been improved via concentration raising of inhibitor. To support our results scanning electron microscopy was employed to clarify the surface of the MS with and without synthesis compounds in 1.0 M HCl and1.0M H2SO4 media.

In this work, we present a new criterion, unlike other attempts, to evaluate and quantify the degree of damage of composite material when it subjected to a sudden impact load. Our criterion exploits the high intrinsic electrical conductivity property of the Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) after dispersing different concentrations of them (0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 %) in the epoxy matrix of a glass fibre composite. Following this goal, the low-velocity impact and flexural after impact (FAI) tests on the MWCNTs-glass epoxy (i.e. MWCNTs-GF) nanocomposite were evaluated. At the same time, the changes in its electrical resistance were measured. The results showed that the properties of the self-sensing composites were significantly affected by impact energy. The damage after impact causes an increase in the electrical resistance of the MWCNTs-GF nanocomposite and increases with increased impact energy. In addition, the samples containing a high concentration of MWCNTs showed lower damage sensitivity under all impact energies levels as compared with the samples contain a lower MWCNTs concentration. Therefore, the results presented in this work have shown that it is possible to associate the change in electrical resistance of the MWCNTs-GF nanocomposite with the degree of damages caused by impact load.

Water–in–oil emulsions are a big challenge in the production and processing of crude oil due to its bad influence on the fundamental and practical aspects of industrial facilities. Researches for decades gave this phenomena a great deal in the planning to construct power plants, refineries, oil companies and other industrial facilities that uses crude oil as a raw material. In order to overcome the disadvantages and hazards of water–in–oil emulsions researchers used chemical, electrical, thermal and mechanical methods individually or in combination. The chemical method has gained the main interest due to its ease of use and economic feasibility. Demulsifiers have been used extensively to solve the problem of water in oil emulsions. The choice of using the right combination of chemicals had been reached after studying many factors such as cost and safety. This research addresses many fundamental and practical aspects regarding demulsifiers and oil demulsification aiming to find the best selection of chemicals that can be used to treat crude oil before using, refining or transporting it. The crude oil in this research had been demulsified and tested by the spectroil test method while the bottle test method had not been used to mimic the demulsification process used in power plant. The work was carried out using two types of oil, crude oil (containing 7 ppm Na and K salts concentration) and heavy fuel oil HFO (containing 12 ppm Na and K salts concentration). The crude oil samples were taken from Al – Hilla 2 power plant while the HFO samples were taken from South Baghdad 2 power plant. The results showed that the water miscible chemicals and chemicals with sufficient solubility that used as a demulsifiers like the acrylic derivatives gave the best demulsification when using more wash water percentage. While the combination of water miscible chemicals and chemicals with sufficient solubility and oil soluble chemicals gave the best results in treating heavy fuel oil while using less wash water percentage.

Recently, the emission of black smoke over local area of Basra Oil Company from flare system represents a big problem facing the company and causing huge pollution in the surrounding environment. The main reason of emission black smoke is carryover of droplets of the rest hydrocarbons such as condensate and droplets of crude oil by gases which are came from degassing stations facility in the north Rumelia field, southern Iraq. In this study, a design methodology was developed for designing the knockout drum, and different design criteria were used in sizing and selecting the drum based on the specification of the inlet fluid mixture. Three designs of knockout drums with respect to the gas conditions were performed. The horizontal knockout drum with a diameter of 2.5 m and length of 5.5 m was simulated using a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model (ANSYS FLUENT 15.0). The CFD model predicted very well the two-phase flow behavior and proved the need for a vortex breaker at the liquid outlet. The CFD simulation revealed quantitatively that the design configuration of the knockout drum performed the separation of condensate droplets from natural gas with excellent efficiency.

In this work integrating Al-Zubaydia (Kut-Iraq) thermal power plant with solar thermal system is studied for heating feed water by solar energy to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gases emission. A closed type Parabolic Trough Solar Collector (PTSC) is designed, constructed, instrumented, and tested. Its thermal characteristics are reported under Iraq climate conditions for the period extended from June, to September 2017. The collector heat gain, efficiency, absorber temperature and heat exchanger effectiveness (considered as feed water heater) were presented for absorber side flow rates of (0.15, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5) lpm of water or oil), and shell side water flow rates of (0.4, 0.5, 0.6lpm). Results show that the maximum obtained thermal efficiency of parabolic trough solar collector was 83.33% for oil working fluid. The maximum obtained oil outlet temperature was 106 oC at solar noon for (0.15) lpm. Theoretical results showed that the fuel save mode needs collector area of (32842 m2), while that needed for power boosting is (102569 m2) for the same thermal cycle efficiency. The fuel save mode reported a reduction in greenhouse emission.

Faujasite (FAU), ZSM-5 (MFI), beta (BEA) and mordenite (MOR) zeolites were admitted to a variety of chemical treatments accompanied by surfactant templating strategy, aiming to introduce the intracrystalline mesoporosity effectively. The resulting materials were tested as solid acid catalysts for esterification of the oleic acid as a common model impurities found in bio-oil feedstoks. It was found that the esterification of oleic acid can be enhanced by the presence of strong acid sites in zeolites and their improved accessibility. Overall, mesostructured FAU zeolite demonstrated an improved catalytic performance as a result of increasing accessibility of the zeolite active sites.

PollutiOn is the intrOduction Of contaminantsʹ intO the natural envirOnment that cause adverseʹ change. Gasoline is a toxic and highly flammable liquid consists of various types of aliphatic hydrocarbons, olefins, benzenes and aromatic hydrocarbons including toluene, xylene and a large number of volatile compounds in addition to tetraethyl lead. Gasoline consists of different types of aliphatic hydrocarbons, aryl compounds and some trace elements. Trace elements are several important roles in human bodies, some are essential for enzymes reactions where they attract and facilitate conversion of substrate molecules to specific end products. Aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) is a receptor involved in the regulation of biological responses to planar aromatic hydrocarbons.
The aim of the present study is to compare the serum AHR level in the fuel station workers (FSW) with the non-workers as a control group. The other aim is to find out a possible correlation between AHR with trace elements.
Sixty male FSW and 30 controls, from ten fuel stations at Al-Najaf City-Iraq, were participated in the present study. The AHR level in serum was measured using ELISA technique. Determine the following metal ions Zn2+, Cu2+, Fe3+, Mg2+, Na+ and K+ level in filling station workers (FSW) and control group were measured spectrophotometrically by using ready for use kits. Serum Pb level was carried out using Atomic absorption spectroscopy.
The results serum concentration of AHR in FSW group revealed a significant increase (p<0.001) as compared with the control group. No significant difference was noticed in AHR as compered in exposure ≥12years with exposure <12years in FWS. Smoking has no significant correlation with other parameters. Correlation study indicated a correlation between AHR and Age. Serum concentration of Cu2+, Zn2+, K+ and Pb in FSW group revealed a significant increase (p<0.001) as compared with the control group. While Fe3+, Na+ and Mg2+ in FSW group revealed a significant decrease (p<0.001) as compared with the control group. Correlation study indicated a significant negative correlation between serum Pb and AHR while other trace elements showed no significant correlation with AHR in FSW group. There is a significant negative correlation between serum Cu2+ with age while there is significant increase correlation between Zn2+, Mg2+ and Pb with age in FWS group.
Conclusion of study is The role of increase AHR on the health in FSW group, attention to use safety gloves and face mask is recommended for FSW and a long follow-up to the studied group is necessary to explore the prognosis of increase AHR in FSW.

Recently, water pollution considered a major problem that faced the human. Large quantities of water consume in various industrial oil refinery processes, where the wastewater discharged from these processes contains high organic, phosphate, ammonia, nitrite compounds, and toxic substances. Regarding that, making this resource a fresh is a major concern.
Furthermore, a great attention has been given for the removal of these contaminants discharged by Fenton process combined with coagulation process. Combined Fenton/Coagulation process was used and applied in this study as a novel wastewater treatment to remove Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Phosphate (PO4), Ammonia (NH3), Nitrite (NO3) compounds, and turbidity (NTU) from industrial wastewater in North Gas Company (NGC), Iraq. The industrial wastewater used in this study was characterized with 114 mg/L COD ,10.28 mg/L PO4, 4.123 mg/L NH3, 95.6 mg/L NO3, 98 NTU Turbidity. The main goal from this work was to evaluate the performance removal efficiency of combined Fenton/Coagulation process and examine the effect of various operational parameters such as Fenton’s dosages (H2O2, Fe2+), the concentration of coagulant (Alum) on the removal efficiency. The results obtained in this work revealed that maximum removal efficiency of COD, PO4, NH3, NO3, turbidity was 89.43%, 72.94 %, 91.065%, 90.96%, 89.85%, respectively was achieved using Fenton combined with coagulation process at 60 mg/L of Alum and 2.5 Fenton’s mole ratio. Overall it can be established that Combined Fenton/Coagulation process plays an important role in obtaining good results and had better removal efficiency. All the experiments were carried out using jar test apparatus at constant temperature (room temperature).

Natural resources can provide transformational opportunities to support development but ultimately are depleted resources. How can Iraq optimize these limited resources while managing a complex sector while minimizing affect at the local level In the long run, natural resources can transform Countries in the area of development or other forms of income in the case of good governance. Wealth of natural resources can also have a significant affect on the country's sustainable development efforts, as well as many other direct and indirect benefits of the Iraqi economy. But these benefits do not happen spontaneously Indeed, in many cases wealth from natural resources does not turn into long-term sustainable development because of the many real challenges associated with resource-based development. Many of these deposits are located in places with governance-related constraints and significant development-related challenges.
There are also economic challenges in managing the volatile revenues of natural resources and technical complexities associated with the management of these large-scale projects. There are real risks of environmental and social imbalances and impacts. The interests have different and different interests. In many cases, these agreements are surrounded by secrecy, in addition to other reasons. In this paper we highlight the challenges faced by rich countries in natural resources in trying to contain Resources to sustainable development and management of investments in the extractive industries in a sustainable manner and to clarify the complex and overlapping governance of natural resources aspects, as well as in some of the strategies that help some countries, including Iraq, to achieve success and the optimal use of these resources to achieve long-term development.

Bottom base tank used in the storage of crude oil and oil derivatives are among the most exposure to the corrosion because its contact with corrosive media that causing corrosion of the metals despite the existence of cathodic protection this was monitored in most of the oil tanks spread throughout Iraq. In this sense، a polymeric self- hardening material derived from non epoxy primers was prepared it has high resistance to acid and high temperature by prepared resolsenol formaldehyde resin in basic media of sodium hydroxide and using plasticizer to give the elasticity to the polymer. The new polymer that synthesized identified by various spectral methods; such as FT-IR، 1H-NMR، 13C-NMR and thermal gravimetric analysis TGA/DTA. Topographic of the surface polymer also study by scanning electron microscope SEM and atomic force microscope AFM. One of the most important goals of this study was used the rapid curing high resistance polymer for bottom base oil tank coating. The efficiency and resistance of synthesized polymer were studied in several tests in acidic and basic media. Laboratory experiments have proven that the most efficient، effective and low cost is 1:3 and thickness 0.6 mm and resistance the pressure 5226.4 N and resistance to temperature up to 170 °C and resistance to acidic solution such as H2SO4 in different concentration. The economic cost of packing material was also studied where it was found that the cost of covering the base of a tank area 706.5 m2 estimated 4669.965 $.

Measuring the petrophysical characteristics of the reservoir rocks (core) is an important measure in the reservoir studies because it gives a clear picture of the oil productivity.
Therefore, studying the factors that affect it is extremely important. One of the most important factors affecting the amount of porosity and permeability of rock is overburden pressure resulting from the weight of the ground layers. In this paper, we used the simple non-linear regression method to formulate several models of three families of mathematical functions (exponential, power and polynomial), which describe the relationship between overburden pressure and porosity/ permeability based on laboratory results of porosity / permeability measurements, we then subjected these models to study, analyze, validate and compare them using the coefficient of determination R2 (which is one of the most important statistical criteria that measure the quality of regression models) and physical criteria to reach the optimal model.
All models were formulated using the famous statistics program Origin8 software. The results showed that there are several mathematical models that can be applied to represent the relation between overburden pressure and porosity/ permeability of sand and limestone rocks, because the value of R2 for all mathematical models is very high (R2 ≥ 98). For example, sandstone has shown that all models are a decrease in porosity ∅/∅i with increasing overburdens pressure and that all of them give almost identical behavior.
The drop starts from a primary value of 100% to (95.25 - 94.75) %, (i.e. bandwidth of 0.5%) at a pressure equal to (P = 21 Pi) of primary pressure (Pi = 300 psi). After this pressure, the behaviour of mathematical models varies greatly, as this behaviour can be divided into three types: the rise in porosity again to an amount greater than its initial value, as described by the second-degree polynomial model. Continue to decrease in porosity and very slowly, as described by the power function models. Porosity stability, as described by steady state equation (SSE), and so on permeability and limestone rocks. SSE was chosen as the best mathematical model that describes the relationship between overburden pressure and porosity/ permeability for several factors, chemical factors and mineral properties of rocks, migration of granular particles and their transfer from one place to another due to fluid movement and fluid pressure within the pores. Excessive increase of Pressure will lead to physical forces and micro fractures between the components of the rock, all of which play an important role in resisting the effect of increasing overburden pressure, resulting in the death of pores and other new births.

Crude oil, refined products and gas considered as the most important products in terms of value and quantity in maritime shipping, as many types of crude oil, petroleum and chemical products are transported by specially designed vessels. The tanker markets witnessed several developments in this field, the oil producing and exporting countries should keep pace of maintain and stabilize the world markets for oil transportation. Some OPEC countries such as Kuwait and Saudi Arabia have been able to keep abreast of the developments in oil shipping، they diversified their vessels and increase their number because it considered as one of the largest producer countries and exporting oil products in international markets specially Saudi Arabia which consider the largest producer in OPEC organization and has a fleet of 46 VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier). Therefore, Iraq is still taking slow steps in pursuing these developments، Iraqi Oil Tankers Company still have (4) small vessels with (53) thousand tons tonnage، although Iraq is the second largest oil producer within the OPEC countries and it should be own a fleet and a strong competitor in the international oil shipping markets.

Contracts of building، operating and petroleum products that are held with companies and individual are among the important contracts at present. The importance of these contracts comes from the importance of its products because they are linked to the lifes of citizens either for direct consumption or for industrial and commercial purposes for the continuation of daily life. These contracts have an impact on the reality of the economic development of the state because of its economy، projects and services are linked to the petroleum products.
