Abstract
Theinducedthermaldegradationofcellulosediacetate(CDA)wasinvestigatedintheabsenceandpresenceofbenzophenone(BPH).CDAarepreparedinthelaboratoryfromfilterpaper,whichischaracterizatedbyspectrophotometry(infraredandultravioletvisible)techniquesinadditiontothedeterminationofthedegreeofsubstitution.Theadditionof(0.5wt%)ofbenzophenonetocellulosediacetateenhancedthethermaldegradationofthepolymer.Themaldegradationratewasmeasuredbyultravioletvisiblespectra,decreasinginviscosityandreductionofmolecularweightwerealsoobservedinthedegradedsamples.Changesinthenumber-averagechainscissionandthedegreeofdeterioration.Whichwereevaluatedbyanalyticaltechniquesindicatedthatthebenzophenoneenhancethethermaldegradationofcellulosediacetate
