Abstract
This paper is a comparison of the semantic features of the conjuncts "and" and 'و ' in English and Arabic respectively. Reference is made to the syntactic features when necessary. Then a comparison is made between the two conjuncts. This subject might have been discussed by other researchers, but in this paper special features are concentrated on in a particular way. This subject, though it may seem simple and ordinary, is of a crucial significance for both students of English and translation departments in that it shows how sentences are connected, by which tools and how they affect other elements' meanings in the sentence.

تُقارن هذه الورقة البحثية السمات الدلالية لحرفي الربط "و" و"و" في اللغتين الإنجليزية والعربية على التوالي. وتُشير إلى السمات النحوية عند الضرورة. ثم تُقارن بين حرفي الربط. ربما ناقش باحثون آخرون هذا الموضوع، ولكن هذه الورقة تُركز على سمات خاصة بطريقة محددة. هذا الموضوع، وإن بدا بسيطًا وعاديًا، إلا أنه ذو أهمية بالغة لطلاب قسمي اللغة الإنجليزية والترجمة، إذ يُظهر كيفية ترابط الجمل، والأدوات المستخدمة، وكيف تؤثر هذه الأدوات على معاني العناصر الأخرى في الجملة.
