Abstract
Since the 1860s, Bahrain has been under British protection, and it was necessary to appoint a British official in Bahrain, in order to preserve its strategic interests, and to limit the increasing Persian claims of sovereignty over the Bahraini islands, as well as to monitor the Ottoman and French movements that were increasing in the Arabian Gulf. Therefore, the British Political Resident in Bushehr suggested appointing a representative of his country in Bahrain, namely (the Political Agent) in 1898. It seems that his appointment was part of the process of expanding British influence in the Arabian Gulf.
