يعد المجاز اللفظ المستعمل في غير ما وقع له من اصطلاح التخاطب مع وجود القرنية المانعة التي تمنع إرادة المعنى الوضعي للألفاظ ، العلاقة المناسبة بين المعنى الحقيقي والمعنى المجازي ، أو علاقة المشابهة، فإذا كانت قائمة على المشابهة فهي استعارة، والا فالعلاقة مجاز مرسل متعدد و متنوع العلاقات، أما العقلي فهو المبني على أساس علاقات الإسناد والتركيب وهو أفضل الوسائل البلاغية وأدهاها في إيضاح المعنى وثرائه ووقعه في القلب كون العرب يصيبها شغف البحث والاتساع في المعنى والكلام والأريحية في الإتيان بالمعاني الرائقة والقرنية المانعة إما لفظية ، أو حالية، أما علة المفارقة ففي التجاوز والخارج عن المألوف للأفكار المتناقضة لتقديم العروض المدهشة للألفاظ والمعاني والدراما الشعرية، كونها تنطوي على استخلاص العبارات المتناقضة والمتضادة في الظاهر واستنتاج ما مسكوت عنه في الباطن، وهو علة وجودها.
