يعد عهد المماليك في العراق مرحلة من المراحل التي شهدت حوادث كان لها الأثر البالغ في تاريخ العراق الحديث وتناولت العديد من المصادر هذه المرحلة المهمة ولعل الكاتب البريطاني المرافق لحملة احتلال العراق ستيفن هميسلي لونكريك من المصادر المهمة التي تناولت تلك المدة الزمنية التاريخية من تاريخ العراق في كتابة أربعة قرون من تاريخ العراق الحديث حيث شمل عهد المماليك بالتفصيل والدقة ابتداء من سليمان ابو ليلى وانتهاء بحكم داود باشا مضيفا الكثير من خلال الاطلاع على أدق الأمور والتفاصيل حيث اعتمد على مصادر متنوعة من رحلات ومخطوطات وتنقل الكاتب بين الإحداث بحذر شديد متوخي الدقة بالنقل و استرسل بذكر اهم شخصيات المماليك وإعمالهم والإحداث التاريخية التي مر بها العراق .
