Abstract
Osseointegration prosthetic limbs are garnering considerable
interest from both professionals and patients. Titanium alloy
implant prostheses provide superior performance compared to
conventional socket-based prostheses in mobility, comfort,
tactile perception, and overall patient satisfaction, thereby
improving a patient's independence and comfort. Osseo Sense is
an important aspect that enables the patient to perceive
enhanced tactile sensations with the prosthesis compared to a
conventional socket. Moreover, osseointegration is challenged by
limitations that require continuous investigation, including
infection and periprosthetic fracture. This study offers an
extensive review of the literature on osseointegrated prostheses,
highlighting their advantages and limitations, the various
systems utilizing this concept, the surgical techniques employed,
the application of surface modifications, and the selection of
suitable materials for different implant systems. Moreover, it is
essential to continuously enhance titanium alloys, such as Ti-
13Nb-13Zr, to resolve current implant-related issues. This study
emphasizes the necessity for increased multidisciplinary
research and the potential usefulness of the implant system once
existing limitations are resolved. This study offers an alternative
perspective on osseointegration, clarifying the latest
developments in the field.
