With the advancement of technology ,the study of cross-cultural communication via on line has become an important and researchable topic in linguistic theory and its applications.The aims of this study are two- fold (a) exploring the influence of cultural diversity on on-line interaction between American native speakers (NSs) and Iraqi non-native speakers (NNSs) of English which, together with other factors might potentially lead to what Thomas(1983) calls "pragmatic failure" (PF), a main cause of communication breakdowns and (b) specifying which type of PF occurs more frequently between the two groups along with the reasons behind such failures. To achieve these objectives , a number of online chats conducted between (10) American speakers of English and (8) Iraqi graduate students of English were collected and analyzed on the basis of Thomas' (1983) division of PF in an attempt to verify the assumption that pragmatic failure is a result of cultural diversity between the two groups of participants.Results revealed that the cultural differences between the two groups could be a major cause of misunderstanding ie. PF., a finding which can be of value to textbook designers and teachers of English as a foreign language (FL)who are required to improve students' pragmatic ability in classroom by focusing not only on their grammatical competence but also on their pragmatic competence.

Translating culture-specific proverbs (CSPs) is a challenging task since they often occur in a peculiar context. Further, CSPs are intended to imply meanings that extend far beyond the literal meaning of such a kind of proverbs. As far as English and Arabic are concerned, translators often encounter problems in translating CSPs due to cultural differences between the source language(SL) and the target language (TL) as well as what seems to be the lack of equivalence for some CSPs.
In view of this, the present study aims at investigating the translation of CSPs in three English-Arabic dictionaries of proverbs, namely Dictionary of Common English Proverbs Translated and Explained (2004), One thousand and One English Proverbs Translated into Arabic (2008) and Dictionary of Wise Sayings and Proverbs (2009). Data of CSPs, in the aforementioned dictionaries, are analyzed as a case study. Specifically, the study attempts to examine whether CSPs are well translated and whether the translation strategies utilized have reflected the ST intended meaning (IM) and the embedded cultural implications as well. Out of the total data on CSPs, only ten examples are selected as representative samples for analysis. For the purpose of carrying out a meaningful analysis of the translation of CSPs, an eclectic model is adapted. It consists of Baker's (2011) cultural substitution strategy (CSS) in combination with Venuti's (2008) domestication strategy (DS) and Nida's (1964/1975) Functional (closest natural) equivalent as well. This proposed eclectic model was considered as the main theoretical framework of the study.
Findings of the study revealed that the selected data have often shown low levels of adequacy in terms of expressing the meanings and pragmatic functions of the ST in the TT. Specifically, the selected translators provide inadequate translations of the cultural implications of the ST in the TT. In addition, this study concludes that translators can successfully render the intended meanings and the cultural elements of CSPs had they been not only bilingual but also bicultural since Arabic, particularly the Qur'an, Hadith, and the Arabic literature, is rich with CSPs that cover issues corresponding to those found in English proverbs. It is worth noting that even if the TL equivalent exists, it would not necessarily accomplish complete equivalence since the ways of expressing meaning and the usage of proverbs differ among languages.

This study highlights the problems of translating Shakespeare's food and drink-related insults (henceforth FDRIs) in (Henry IV, Parts I&II) into Arabic. It adopts (Vinay & Darbelnet's:1950s) model, namely (Direct& Oblique) to highlight the applicability of the different methods and procedures made by the two selected translators (Mashati:1990 & Habeeb:1905) .The present study tries to answer the following questions:(i) To what extent the FDRIs in Henry IV might pose a translational problem for the selected translators to find suitable cultural equivalents for them? (ii) Why do the translators, in many cases, resort to a literal procedure which is almost not workable with such expressions. (iii)What is the main reason behind the high percentage of inappropriateness in translating FDRIs from English into Arabic? As for the main conclusions that the study has come up with, we can sum up them in the following points.(i) Most of the FDRIs are culturally bound expressions with cultural peculiarities making them very hard to be deciphered and translated even by experienced translators.(ii) Most of the FDRIs used by Shakespeare in his tragedy Henry IV, are very old and were his own inventions, a fact that makes them very difficult not only for the non-native speakers of English as the case with our translators (Mashati &Habeeb) but also for the native speakers. (iii) Finally, one can say that all the wrong and funny renditions were due to the wrong adopted procedures by (Mashati &Habeeb) , while the other successful renderings were as a result of their well-selected procedures that consider the cultural difference between the two languages.

Stylistics is the analysis of the language of literary texts integrated within various approaches to create a framework of different devices that describe and distinct a particular work. Therefore, feminist stylistics relied on theories of feminist criticism tries to present a counter- image of a woman both in language use and society, to draw attention , raise awareness and change ways that gender represents. Feminist stylistic analysis is related not only to describe sexism in a text, but also to analyze the way that point of view, agency, metaphor, and transitivity choices are unanticipatedly and carefully connected to issues of gender(Mills,1995:1)
The study tries to discuss matters of gender representation in stylistic analysis and how questions and messages of gender are deducted and exposed when reading and interpreting a text. Moreover, the concept of transitivity and how meaning is encoded and adopted by different patterns of transitivity will be analyzed and investigated.
The study has shown that transitivity patterns are used as a device to analyze gender representation as well as to describe the ideational meaning which involves the experiential realization of the world. The results of the analysis of transitivity choices of the selected romantic scene have shown that the whole number of processes are nineteen, the female does five processes in her role as an actor, whereas male shows fourteen which are the highest number in his performance. The male appears to be the active participant agent who is conscious and in control of his action, whereas the female appears to be passive in her quality, volition and being affected or recipient actor. Also, it is seen that feminist analysis tries to create a new message and picture of woman position; this is depicted by the essential role of the readers' assumption and contextual factors of the text in the process of interpretation.

Euphemisms are advantageous in people’s social life by turning sensitive into a more acceptable ones so that resentful feelings and embarrassment can be avoided. This study investigates the ability of Iraqi English learners in using euphemistic expressions, meanwhile, raising their awareness and the faculty members in English teaching faculties regarding the relevance of discussing the topics that demand euphemisation. This study comprised three stages: initial test, explicit instruction with activities, and a final test for the students’ development in this domain. A test has been distributed among 50 respondents, who are at the fourth year of their undergraduate study at the University of Babylon/ College of Basic Education. The low rate of producing and recognising euphemisms in the first stage of the study, it is concluded that Iraqi students that the course design in the foreign context is inadequate. After consistent training during the second stage, students have shown significant development in mastering these expressions.

На примере нескольких неологизмов в статье показаны как возможности интернет-словотворчества, так и возможности изучения функционирования новообразований в интернет-коммуникации. Выбранные для анализа слова можно отнести к ключевым словам текущего времени. Отрицательная оценка в таких словах может быть задана производящим словом, суффиксом, неблагозвучием или созвучием слова с другим отрицательно оцениваемым словом. Так, образованные с помощью нейтральных суффиксов -изм, -ист слова рашизм (идеология «великорусскости», от пренебрежительного названия России - Раша, Рашка) и рашист (тот, кто придерживается идеологии рашизма) имеют ярко выраженную отрицательную окраску не только за счет отрицательной окраски производящего слова (человек, который, говоря по-русски, называет Россию Рашей, конечно,показывает свое отношение к стране, но и за счет того, что они ассоциируются со словами фашизм и фашист. The present article discusses innovative word-formation processes in Internet texts, the emergence of new derivative words, new affixes, word-formation models, and word-formation methods. Using several neologisms as an example, the article shows both the possibilities of Internet word-making process and the possibilities of studying a newly established work through Internet communication.
The words selected for analysis can be attributed to the keywords of the current time. (In particular, the words included in the list of "Words of 2019") there are number of words formed by the suffix method, which is the traditional method of the Russian word formation.
A negation of these words is usually made through suffixes, dissonances or consonances with another negative word.

Данная статья рассматривает функционирование фразеологизмов в российском политическом дискурсе и особенности их употребления политиками в своих выступлениях. Основное внимание сосредоточено на экспрессивной и прагматической функциях использования фразеологических единиц в политических текстах ввиду их оценочно-экспрессивного характера. Также в статье рассматриваются структурные и стилистические изменения, которые претерпевают фразеологизмы в политическом дискурсе. При этом в работе приведены примеры из выступлений министра иностранных дел РФ С.В. Лаврова. В результате автор приходит к выводу, что фразеологизмы позволяют наладить контакт адресанта сообщения с аудиторией при обращении к общему культурному коду, выразить и передать реципиентам свое отношение к предмету коммуникации.

Отмечено, что морфологическую категорию времени формирует система формальних средств выражения настоящего, будущего и прошлого времени, особенный статус прошлого времени (давно минувшего) влияет на проблематичность его определения. Акцентировано внимание на том, что глагольные формы времени, противопоставляясь между собой временными значениями, при этом не противопоставляются по синтаксическими свойствам. Прослежена особенность синтаксической категории времени, состоящая в сравнении с морфологической категорией глагольного времени. Прослежено, что в синтаксисе, в структуре его основной единицы – предложении, категория времени одновременно с категориями особы и модальности является средством реализации предикативности, связывая высказывания с действительностью и реальным временем.

Hence, the present study traces and compares the syntactical and morphological categories of time that connects the sentence with the reality of the actual time.

The present article is devoted to the analysis of Arabic phraseological units with a component hand, selected by continuous sampling from the “Training Russian-Arabic phraseological dictionary: about 900 phraseological units” by G. L. Permyakov. Arabic phraseological units with a component hand are modeled as invariant situations (by logical-semiotic models) and figurative statements are expressed by phraseological variants (according to the figurative characteristic of the hand component). The artical focuses on the fact that somatism in Arabic phraseology has a symbolic and symbolic nature, marking various situations of Arabs' behavior, their actions, deeds, rituals, emotional and psychological states, etiquette, in particular etiquette formulas of congratulations and politeness. Thus, Arabic phraseology encodes these situations as invariants, for which phraseological variants are used with the component hand, which is the figurative and symbolic center of formation of their intended phraseological meaning.

В статье утверждается, что глаголы деструкции относятся к лексико-семантической группе физического воздействия. Они включают глаголы со значением «повредить» и «уничтожить». Акцентируется внимание, что каждая из этих групп относительно самостоятельная, граница между ними нечеткая и условная. Постулируется, что если объект совсем разрушен, то глагол имеет значение «уничтожить», если частично – то глагол имеет значение «повредить». Именно этот признак индивидуализирует значения глаголов. В нашем исследовании утверждается, что отличает эти группы и характер объекта – одушевленное / неодушевленное. The article states that the Russian verbs of destruction belong to the lexical-semantic group of physical impact. They include verbs with the meaning of “damage” and “destroy”. It is emphasized that each of these groups is relatively independent; the cut line between them is fuzzy and arbitrary. It is postulated that when the object is completely destroyed, then the verb has the meaning of “destruction”, and when the object is partially destroyed, then the verb has the meaning of “damage”. It is this feature that individualizes the meaning of verbs. The study distinguishes between the groups and the nature of the object as- animate / inanimate. The object of the action of the “destruction” can only be inanimate, and the object of the action of “damage” and “destruction” can be both animate and inanimate objects.

The storyteller directly begins to depict his psychological sufferings in his childhood days. He tells a story full of sadness and refusal of the neglect he suffered in his childhood. It is obvious that the early five years of Samha bin Zion’s life is considered a period of conflict that participated in the formation of his individual identity. The story represents an outlet for a hidden secret world buried under the layers of his consciousness. It deals with the dark and dark side of the life of a Jewish boy in the Diaspora, and the tragic existence full of restrictions represented by the cruelty of the strict educational system in Al-Haidar; (the Jewish religious school) where Samha bin Zion was a neglected child and a victim of the father's control at home and the teacher in school. The aim behind such a rigid way of education is to bring him to the inelastic Jewish conventions. At his present stage of contemplation and after a long search for his true self, the writer reveals the frustration and instability he suffered.

پژوهش حاضر که با عنوان گام¬های عملی یک ترجمهء حرفه¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬ای يك تلاش فروتنانه به دنبال بررسی وتحلیل گام¬های عملی ترجمه حرفه¬ای است، كه هر مترجم برای ارائه یک ترجمه خوب و درست از زبان مبدأ به زبان مقصد باید ان را دنبال کند.
پژوهش از شش مطلب تشکیل یافته است, كه مجموع آن گام¬های عملی یک ترجمهء حرفه¬ای به شمار می روند .از میان مهمترین نتایجی که پژوهشگر به آن رسیده: ترجمه هم مانند هر فعالیت ادبی باید طبق مرحله¬هایی یا با گام¬های مرتب ویکی پس از دیگری انجام شود وگرنه کار کم اهمیت خواهد بود, و گام¬های عملی ترجمه حرفه¬ای عبارتنداز: انتخاب کتاب،گرفتن اجازه از صاحب اثر،شروع به ترجمهء متن اثر،ترجمهء عنوان کتاب ، ویرایش
The present paper, practical methods of professional translation, discusses the most important methods to achieve an accurate effective translation from the source language text to the equivalent target language text.
The present study suggests that practical translation like any literary activity is of six main stages that follow sequential order to achieve an accurate translation: (choosing the foreign text to be translated, the author of the text permission, the text translation, considering the title contextual meaning, reviewing the text translation, and finally finding a good publisher).

They wrote in their novels, among other things, about Orientalism , love and femininity. They both lived wild, extroverted lives. They did not shy away from experiencing anything new that came their way, rebelled against conventions and acted provocatively; they enjoyed the shock and amazement that evoked around them. While trying to find their place in different family settings, they chose to present two Arab Christian heroines. The narrator in Jasmine is the speaker Noori-Eli himself. While the narrator of “Trumpet in the Wadi” is Huda the heroine herself. Both are independent and both have a hobby in which they invest a lot; which is reading.
The families of the two protagonists undergo social changes during the plot, and when necessary they both work to provide the family needs. First, the study sheds light on the importance of the Arabs in Israeli literature as reflected in Sami Michael's book: "Trumpet in the Wadi" "(2008) and Eli Amir's: Jasmine (2005). It, also, provides summaries of the two novels and discusses the character of the Arabic Christian woman as described in both novels.
Chapter two debates the characters of Huda and Jasmine and similarities of the two in representing their time. The chapter also compares the recurring image of the Christian Arab character in the two novels, the concept of racism, characters description, as well as the subjects discussed throughout the books with an number of citation taken from the book.
