Male infertility may occur due to different causes, therefore , different
therapeutic approaches have been applied in order to improve the ability of
men to get children . Semen analysis is used to determine the fertility
potential in males, but the occurrence of pregnancy is the evidence of sperm
ability for fertilization. Although male fertility is affected by food and
nutrients, but little attention is paid for the use of Royal Jelly and no
previous studies on the use of Royal Jelly in the treatment of male
infertility.
Eighty– three infertile men were treated with Royal Jelly,
twenty– two with 100mg Royal Jelly, twenty–one with 50mg Royal Jelly,
twenty with 25mg Royal Jelly and twenty with pure honey. Our study
showed that, the treatments were safe and there were no side effects. After
three months of treatment , the sperm active motility , testosterone level ,
Lutelizing hormones level , sluggishly motile sperm and intercourse / week
increased significantly in infertile men treated with Royal Jelly , while
sperm count and FSH level increased not significantly . On the basis of
results, Royal Jelly is safe and effective in the treatment of male infertility.

Aprospectivestudywasconductedon90patientswhowereadmittedatAl
Nassiriyapediatrichospitalfromtheperiodof1.1.2002–31.12.2006.Their
historyandclinicalexaminationwerehighlysuggestiveofintussusception\'s.
Planeabdominalradiographyandultrasoundweredoneforallcasesinan
attempt tosupportclinicaldiagnosisandtocomparetheefficacyofboth
toolsinthediagnosisofintussusceptions.Itwasfoundthatmalesweremore
commonly affected than femaleswithmale: Female ratio of 3: 1. The
majorityofcaseswerebelow2yearsofage(91.34%)with(71.56%)oftotal
numberofcaseswerebelowoneyear.Noobviouscauseforintussusception
couldbedetectedinthemajorityofcases.Apathologicalleadingpointasa
causeforintussusceptionreportedinonly(8.64%)ofcases.Thefindingson
clinicalbaseswerecompatiblewithresultsofultrasoundexaminationand
withtheoperative findings; clinical examinationnevermissedanycase.
Ultrasoundexaminationhadanefficacyof 100%indetecting cases of
intussusceptioncomparedwith (49%) forplane radiography. The study
hadconcentratedonthe fact that ahigh indexof suspicionandcareful
evaluationofeachpatientareessentialindetectingcasesasearlyaspossible
thusavoidingseriouscomplicationsimposedonlatediagnosis.

ThispaperreportstheresultsofastudycarriedoutinThiQargovernorate
during 2007. It aims at quantifying the burden of cancer in terms of
numberofdeathsdistributionandspecificrates.Thedatawereobtained
fromalldeathregistrationofficesinthegovernorateandcoveredage,sex,
typeofcancer,residenceandyearatwhichdeathtookplace.Sixyearswere
covered;1985,1986,1995,1996,2005and2006.Theseyearswerechosenon
thebasis of feasibilityand toallowpresentationof any time trends in
cancermortality.Theresults showedthat cancerrepresent asignificant
causeofdeathinThiQargovernorate.Itaccountsfor7.3%ofalldeathsin
thestudiedyearswithclearincreaseinbothcancerspecificmortalityrate
andcancerproportionalmortalityratiowithtime.Also,cancerdeathswere
more frequent among males than among females. The geographical
distributionshowsnomajorvariationexceptsomeexcessinNassiriyahcity.
Fivecancers (urinarybladder, lung,Leukaemias,breastandlymphomas)
accountedformorethanhalf thedeathsrecordedinThiQar. It ishighly
recommendedthat cancerregistrationisenhancedinThiQarandmore
attentionisgiventothequalityofdeathregistration.

Background: Dermatophytic infections are common in our country with
many clinical types. Objective: This study was arranged to assess the
clinical and epidemiological aspects of dermatophytosis among patients
attending Al- Yarmouk teaching hospital. Patients and methods: A total of
96 patients with dermatophytosis were examined in the dermatology out
patients department in Al- Yarmouk teaching hospital, over a period of six
months. Diagnosis was made clinically and confirmed by potassium
hydroxide testing in suspicious cases. Results: prevalence rate was 0.01%
with the majority of cases in the teenage group, males were more frequently
affected than females (2.5:1), most of the patients were from rural areas,
and tinea corporis was the most commonly encountered type. Conclusion:
Dermatophytosis still accounts for an important curable problem in our
dermatological practice, which requires further attention and support.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of percutaneous sclerotherapy using 95%
ethanol in the treatment of symptomatic simple renal cysts.
Patients and methods: From April 2004 to July 2007, a series of 33 patients
19 males and 14 females ranging in age between 40-72 years were treated
for symptomatic simple renal cysts. The cysts varied between 6.5 and 13
cm. in diameter estimated by ultrasound and from 100 to 550 ml in volume.
This technique consist of ultrasound guided and local anesthesia emptying
of the cyst, and slowly inserting a quality of pure 95% ethanol, equivalent
to about 1\3rd of the cyst volume ( up to maximum 100 ml), into the cavity
and retained for 2 h by clamping the curled drainage catheter, the clamp
then released and the catheter maintained for 24-48 h, in suction, to ensure
collapse of the cyst walls and avoid cyst recurrence. Results: The procedure
was technically feasible and all the patients tolerate the procedure except
one patient developed gross hematuria and she was excluded in the later
statistical analysis. The results were evaluated by ultrasonography at 7 days
postoperatively and then at 1, 3, 6, 9, months later. There was a further
fallow up every 3 months lasting for 12 to 24 months. Of 33 patients treated,
21 (63.5%) patients were asymptomatic showing total remission of the cyst
and did not have any recurrence. Nine patients (27%) developed marked
regression with residual maximal diameter of les than 3-4 cm, which did not
enlarge in subsequent check-ups and symptoms disappeared except 3
patients had persistent symptoms in spit of decrease cyst diameter <3-4 cm.
Weobserved a recurrence which spontaneously reduce in volume, only in 3
patients one of them loss follow up, another one responding to further trial
of sclerotherapy and the 3rd one treated surgically.
Conclusions: The procedure was simple to apply in an out patient setting
and used low cost materials, which are easily obtained. Moreover, the
results appear to confirm the validity of this technique.

Colorectal adenocarcinoma is the third most common cancer in men and women and is
the second leading causes cancer death. Recently detected Human Cytomegalovirus
(HCMV) proteins in a high proportion of human colorectal tumors. These finding raise
the chance of whether persistent HCMV infection can induce oncogenic pathways that
eventuate in colorectal adenocarcinoma.
This study investigates whether HCMV participates in human colorectal tumorigenesis
by the detection of HCMV Pp65 within epithelial cells of colorectal carcinoma using
Immunohistochemistry (IHC). We obtained formalin–fixed, paraffin– embedded
specimens of adenocarcinoma, villous adenoma, and normal tissues from the margins of
the excision as a control. In this study, 55 specimens were classified into three groups:
Adenocarcinoma, Villous adenoma, and control group, all groups have been tested by
IHC to detect the presence of HCMV proteins using mouse monoclonal antibodies to an
early protein (pp65). The results of IHC assay showed specific nuclear and cytoplasmic
reaction of HCMV proteins within the epithelial cells of colorectal adenocarcinoma
(75.75%), and villous adenoma (83.33%), in addition to that no nuclear or cytoplasmic
reaction were showed in any case of control group.
In view of the many cellular modulatory properties of this virus, our data justify further
studies to establish whether HCMV interfere with the pathogenesis of colorectal
adenocarcinoma.

Background:MyoglobinuricARF is an example of intrinsic type of renal failure
inducedbyintramuscularinjectionofglycerol.
Materialsandmethods:thisstudyhasbeenconductedusing36localdomesticrabbits.
Theywereseparatedinto6groups, eachonehasbeenpre-treatedwithatestagent
(vitamin C and E, amlodipine, carvedilol and verapamil) 2 hours prior to
administrationof glycerol.Thechanges inrenal functionhavebeenfollowedupby
monitoringthelevelsofBUN, serumcreatinine,K+andNa+after3and7daysof the
induction.Results:pretreatmentwithvitaminC, vitaminE, carvedilolandverapamil
cause significant reduction in the levels of BUN, serumcreatinine andK+ and
significant elevation of serumNa+when comparedwith the control group.While
pretreatmentwithamlodipinecauses significant elevationofBUN, serumcreatinine
andK+. Conclusion:VitaminC, E, carvedilol and verapamil have a significant
nephroprotectiveeffectat thetesteddoses inthismodelofacuterenal failurewitha
possibleuseinpreventionofacuterenalfailure.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common childhoodproblem, if not
diagnosedandtreatedpromptlymay leadtoseriousproblems likerenal
scarringandrenal failure.This studywas conductedtoassess themost
common bacterial agents responsible for UTI and themost effective
antibiotics. Fourhundredeighty five (485) cases included in this study
selectedaccordingtocertaincriteria.Onehundredthirtypatients(26.8%)
hadpositivecultures forUTI.Most commonbacterial agentwasE. coli
responsiblefor(30.7%)ofcases.AmikacinandGentamycinwerefoundto
bethemostcommonlyeffectiveantimicrobialagentsagainstthesebacteria.
Thestudyshowedasignificant sexpreponderance ininfantileagegroup
(male: female1.8:1)whileUTIpredominated infemalesbeyond infancy
(3.2-3.5:1).Thestudyshowedclearlytheimportanceof testingantibiotics
sensitivityofthesebacteriaforsuccessfulmanagementofUTI.

In this paper we present results of a study carried out to explore the
association of serum uric acid and metabolic syndrome .Serum uric acid
level among 100 patients with metabolic syndrome attending An
Nassirrhya General Hospital for non cardiac complaint was found to be
higher than normal level and control group (405.98micromole/L., 378.51
micromole/L. respectively).serum uric acid level have a direct relationship
with the number of metabolic syndrome components with significant higher
levels among those with hypertriglyceridemia.

Context: Endoscope is important diagnostic and therapeutic method for the
investigation and management of many upper GIT diseases and the use of
the pulse oximeter during this procedure are useful in monitoring any
abnormal changes in pulse rate and O2 saturation and nowadays it is
mandatory to use pulse oximeter during upper gastrointestinal endoscope.
Objectives: The aim of this study is to evaluate the significant changes in
the pulse rate and O2 saturation during endoscope and the safety of the
endoscope in non-sedated patients. DESIGN: Prospective study done by
examination of seventy patients by upper gastrointestinal endoscope and
recording their pulse rate and O2 saturation before and after the
introduction of endoscope by the use of pulse oximeter.
Settings and Patients: All patients aged from (20-80) year old, underwent
upper GIT endoscope between February and October 2007 in the
endoscope department in AL-Najaf teaching hospital .with use of the pulse
oximeter by one examiner in a randomized pattern, significant pulse rate
changes considered >10 beats, and significant oxygen saturation changes
>5%.
