EVALUATION OF BAGHDAD STAIN FOR BLOOD AND BONE MARROW FILMS FOR STAINING THE CHROMOSOMES

Abstract

An attempt was made to study the efficiency of Baghdad stain which is routinely used in blood and bone marrow films in staining the chromosomes.
A total of 20 slides of cells of bone marrow films were flooded with the solution of Baghdad stain, then these slides were divided in to 4 groups and 5 slides in each group. Staining periods after dilution of the stain with distilled water for five slides were as follows: 5,7,10,15, and 20 minutes. Two slides were stained with Giemsa stain for control. Best result in staining of the chromosomes with Baghdad stain showed with 10 minutes staining period. In addition to the efficiency of Baghdad stain in staining the chromosomes, it has simple staining procedure, and easy method of preparation.
According to these characteristics it can be suggested that Baghdad stain for blood and bone marrow films is recommended for staining the chromosomes

ﺇن الهدف من هذه التجربة هو المحاولة للاستفادة من ملون بغداد الذي يستخدم روتينياً لتلوين أفلام الدم ونقي العظم في تلوين الصبغيات. لونت 20 شريحة زجاجية حاوية على مسحات خلايا نقي العظم وقسمت إلى أربع مجاميع في كل مجموعة خمسة شرائح ولكل شريحة في المجموعة استخدمت الفترات الزمنية 5, 7, 10, 15, 20 دقيقة لتلوينها بملون بغداد بعد التخفيف بالماء المقطر وشريحتان لونتا بملون كمزا للسيطرة.
أعطت الفترة الزمنية 10 دقائق لتلوين الصبغيات بملون بغداد لأفلام الدم و نقى العظم بعد تخفيفه بالماء المقطرأفضل نتيجة تلوين للصبغيات . إن كفاءة ملون بغداد لأفلام الدم ونقي العظم في تلوين الصبغيات بالإضافة إلى ما يتميز به هذا الملون من صفات ايجابية أخرى تجعل هذا الملون من الملونات الكفوءة في تلوين الصبغيات.

Abstract

Thalassaemia is a serious inherited disorder , Children with thalassaemia can not make enough hemoglobin because this their bone marrow cannot produce enough red blood cells.
The red blood cells that are produced are nearly empty. There are two forms of Thalassaemia, Alpha thalassaemia and Beta thalassaemia if both partners carry thalassaemia , there is danger for your future children This study is designed to find out the relationship between the disease and some variables and compare between incidence in males and females . A random survey was done for ( 100 ) Thalassaemia patients visiting the Inherited Blood Disease Center and Central Pediatrics Hospital in Baghdad from 1-1-2004 to 31-2004 . One hundred patients were analyzed for their age, sex, blood group, number of patients in the same family .
The results have shown that the higher incidence of disease was thalassaemia major of age 1-9 years and the higher incidence of blood group was O+ more than other group of blood . And the males have higher incidence compared to females .

الثلاسيميا من اهم الامراض الوراثية الانحلالية التي تكسر كريات الدم الحمراء فالاطفال المصابين بالثلاسيميا لايستطيعون انتاج مايكفي من الهيموغلوبين وذلك لان نخاع العظم لايمكنه انتاج كريات دم حمراء كافية لحاجة اجسامهم وكريات الدم الحمراء المنتجة من قبلهم تكون خالية تقريبا من الهيموغلوبين وهناك نوعان من الثلاسيميا : هما ثلاسيميا الفا وثلاسيما بيتا .واذا كان الزوج او الزوجة اوكلاهما حاملاً لمرض الثلاسيميا فهذا يؤثر على مستقبل اطفالهم .وتهدف هذه الدراسة الى معرفة العلاقة بين مرض الثلاسيميا وبعض العوامل وهل ان هناك فروقا في معدل الاصابة بين الذكور والاناث .
تم اجراء مسح عشوائي لـ (100) شخص مصاب بالثلاسيميا راجعو مركز امراض فقر الدم الوراثية في بغداد ومستشفى الطفل المركزي خلال المدة من شهر كانون الثاني عام 2004 ولغاية نهاية شهر اذار 2004 .
وقد اظهرت النتائج ان اكثر الاصابات بالمرض هي من نوع ثلاسيميا الكبرى وللفئة العمرية من 1-9 سنوات ، وصنف الدم + O هو الاكثر نسبة من جميع الاصناف وكذلك اظهرت النتائج ان نسبة الاصابة الذكور اكثر مقارنة بالاناث .
وعلى ضوءالنتائج المستحصلة توضع توصيات للحد من ارتفاع نسبة الاصابة بالمرض بتثقيف المجتمع حول المرض وطرق الوقاية منه وضرورة القيام بفحص الدم للمقبلين على الزواج لاكتشاف المرض مبكراً .

Abstract

Descriptive study was carried out in the period from 1/212/2005 to 30/1/2006 in Babylon maternity hospital. Objectives: to find out the percentages of spontaneous abortion and the most common risk factors in causing abortion. study samples of (50) pregnant women were selected and interviewed according to questionnaire constructed for the purpose of this study .The study reveals that women of the age class of (21-25) years were having the highest percent in having spontaneous abortion , and threatened abortion having the highest percent of (60%) also the most common risk factors to cause abortion anemia (38%) , urinary tract infections (32%) , and hypertension (30%) which affect the pregnant women . And the number of gravity (1- 3) with (64%) having the highest percent in prone spontaneous abortion. Also the pregnancy period (1-3) months within (64%) were prone to spontaneous abortion too. The study recommended to encoruging the pregnant women to attend the primary check health care for observation , chick and cure anemia, hypertension, urinary tract infections and other diseases. Also the fetus well-being should be observe and checked.
And should be the pregnant women about healthy and good nutrition specially the food which should be rich iron/ folic acid and vitamin

أجريت دراسة وصفية للفترة من (1/12/2005) ولغاية ( 30/1/2006) في ردهات مستشفى الولادة تهدف إلى معرفة نسب أنواع الإسقاط التلقائي واهم العوامل المساعدة على حدوثه.
منهجية البحث:- اختبرت عينة عمدية من (50) حاملاً مصابة بالإسقاط وفق استمارة أعدت لغرض البحث.
النتائج :- كشفت الدراسة إن الفئة العمرية (25-21) أكثر عرضة لحدوث الإسقاط وان الإسقاط المهدد يشكل أعلى نسبة (60%) وان أهم العوامل المساعدة لحدوث الإسقاط التلقائي هي فقر الدم وبنسبة (38%) والتهاب المجاري البولية وبنسبة ( 32%) وارتفاع ضغط الدم وبنسبة (30%) وان عدد الولادات (1-3) وبنسبة (64%) أكثر عرضة لحدوث الإسقاط التلقائي وكذلك فترة الحمل (1-3) اشهر وبنسبة (64%) هي أكثر عرضة لحدوث الإسقاط التلقائي أيضا .
ألتوصيات:- أوصت الدراسة بتشجيع الحوامل على مراجعة مراكز الرعاية الصحية لمراقبة فقر الدم وعلاجه وارتفاع ضغط الدم والتهاب المجاري البولية والإمراض الأخرى وكذلك مراقبة صحة الجنين و إرشاد الحامل حول التغذية الجيدة وخصوصا المواد التي يكثر فيها الحديد والفيتامينات وفوليك اسد.

Abstract

A total of three hundreds stool specimens from children (188 male and 112 female) were collected and examined by wet preparation method for the period from January to June 2001 in El-Hindia hospital. it was found that the infection rate increases in comparison with other sites in Iraq. The prevalence rate of infection in females is lower than in males. The ratio of parasites were:
Enterobius vermicularis (51%), Entamoeba histolytica (34%), Giardia lamblia (15%). Infection among these children is discussed and analyzed.

بين بداية كانون الثاني وحتى شهر حزيران 2001، تم فحص 300 طفلاً (188 ذكراً) و(112 أنثى) مصابين بالطفيليات المعوية في قضاء الهندية (طويريج). جمعت العينات وفحصت في مستشفى الهندية العام مجهرياً بطريقة التحضير الرطب، للبحث عن الطفيليات المعوية. وجد إن نسبة الاصابة مرتفعة مقارنة مع بحوث أخرى أجريت داخل العراق. وجد إن نسبة الخمج بين الإناث أقل منها في الذكور، وقد وجد إن هؤلاء الأطفال مخموجين بالطفيليات المعوية التالية:

Enterobius vermicularis 51 %
Entamoeba histolytica 34 %
Giardia lamblia 15 %

Abstract

The research was done at Dowrah city and its sourandings .we used daily samples of drinking water during 1993 The research covered physical,chemical and biological measurement .
The results show the quality of drinking water was good and satifactory.The amount of free residual chlorine was active in chlorinetion and there was no effect of any factor on chlorination and there was no biological contamination at that time

اجريت قياسات مختبرية يومية لنماذج من مياه الشرب في منطقة الدورة والاحياء المحيطة بها خلال عام 1993 .تضمن البحث قياسات فيزيائية وكميائية وبكتريولوجية لماء الشرب .وتشير النتائج الى ان الماء صالح للشرب وفق المواصفات الدولية وان نسبة الكلور الحر والمتبقي كانت فعالة في تعقيم المياه ولايوجد تاثير يذكر لبعض العوامل الموثرة على فعالية الكلور واثبتت النتائج ايضاً عدم وجود تلوث بيولوجي يذكر في تلك المنطقة ولنفس الفترة الزمنية .

Abstract

This research was performed to study the effect of some amino acids and vitamins on the growth of bacteria Staphylococcus aureas and its sensitivity against UV light .
The results showed low inhibition in bacterial growth because amino acids repairs the damges caused by UV light .
Besides ,the effect of two groups of antibiotics ( - lactame and tetracycline ) on the growth of S. aureus and the possible interference of amino acids and vitamins in the activity of the antibiotics against this bacteria in the presence of UV light were studied.
The result show increase in the sensitivity towards these antibiotics and provided protection against the antibiotics

اجريت هذه الدراسة لمعرفة تأثير بعض الأحماض الأمينية والفيتامينات على نمو بكتريا العنقوديات وحساسيتها للأشعة فوق البنفسجية إذ لوحظ تثبيط قليل للنمو البكتيري لأن الأحماض الأمينية والفيتامينات كانت تعمل على اصلاح الضرر الناتج عن تأثير تلك الأشعة .
كما درس تأثير مجموعتين من المضادات الحيوية على النمو والفعالية الكـيمياحيوية لبكتريـا العنـقوديات الذهبية ومدى امكانية تداخل هذه الأحماض الأمينية والفيتامينات مع فـعالية المضادات الحـيوية ضد البكتريا لأن هذه الأحماض الأمينية والفيتامينات توفر حماية للبكتريا ضد مضادات الحيوية وتعمل على اصلاح الضرر الناتج عن عمل المضاد

Abstract

The effect of Urtica dioica extraction on the growth of some pathogenic bacteria was studied, they included: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonus aeruginosa. The effect of chloroform extraction was more pronounced on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus rather than E.coli and Pseudomonus. While alcoholic extraction has a marked effect on the growth of E. coli in comparison to Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

تمت دراسة تأثير مستخلص نبات القريص في كل من المواد التالية (الماء, الكحول الاثيلي, الكلوروفورم, والايثر) وبتراكيز مختلفة على نمو بعض الجراثيم المرضية وهي المكورات العنقودية الذهبيةStaphylococcus aureus والاشيريكية القولونيةEscherichia coli والزائفة الزنجارية Pseudomonus aeruginosa.
تبين من هذه الدراسة أن مستخلص الكلوروفورم له تأثير فعال على نمو المكورات العنقودية الذهبية. ومستخلص الكحول هو الأفضل في التأثير على نمو الاشيريكية القولونية مقارنة بالمستخلصات الأخرى . أما بالنسبة للزائفة الزنجارية فكان قطر منطقة التثبيط قليل في مستخلص الكحول والايثر واقل في مستخلص الكلوروفورم ومعدوم التأثير في مستخلص الماء .

Abstract

Breast-feeding is the ideal method for infant’s nutrition, the period, which follow delivery directly, is considered the most important period for the commencement of breast-feeding. During this period the infant will get the colostrum, which is considered as the first immunization dose, and which can protect the infant from several diseases.
This study is designed to find out the relationship between infant feeding and neonatal jaundice, and to compare between incidence in males and females.
A prospective study was done for jaundiced infants who were admitted to Saddam Hospital for Pediatrics in Baghdad during (Dec. 2000 - Feb. 2001). The average of total serum Bilirubin was 17.5 mg/dL and the average of packed cell volume was 56%.
One hundred babies were analyzed for their age, sex, type of feeding, onset of breast-feeding, and addition of water, mixed feeding. The results have shown the predominant risk factors for jaundice are male, addition of water or glucose water to the feeding, delayed breast feeding, and these factors constitute the major risk factors for hyperbilirubinemia.

تلعب الرضاعة الطبيعية دورا كبيرا في نمو الرضيع من الناحية النفسية و الصحية, إذ توفر له الاحتياجات الطبيعية للنمو المنتظم والإحساس بحب ألام وحنانها, كما أنها تزوده بعوامل المقاومة الطبيعية للأمراض المعدية للفترة الأولى من حياته.
تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى معرفة العلاقة بين تغذية الطفل حديث الولادة واليرقان الولادي (الفسيولوجي), وهل هناك فروقاً في معدل الإصابة بين الذكور و الإناث و تم اختيار عينة من الأطفال الذين ادخلوا مستشفى الطفل المركزي للأطفال والمصابين باليرقان الولادي (الفسيولوجي), من بداية شهر كانون الأول عام 2001 ولغاية نهاية شهر شباط عام 2002 و قد بلغت العينة الماخوذة 100 طفل مصاب باليرقان الولادي.
وقد أظهرت النتائج ان الطرق السائدة و التي تسبب تأخر علاج اليرقان الولادي (الفسيولوجي) هي إعطاء الأطفال ماء الكلوكوز مع الرضاعة الطبيعية والبدء أولا بإعطائه هذا المحلول قبل إرضاعه حليب ألام, مما يؤثر على صحة الأطفال لأنه يتسبب في زيادة ارتفاع مستوى البيليروبين في دم الأطفال مما يؤدي إلى حدوث مضاعفات خطيرة,كما أظهرت النتائج أن نسبة إصابة الذكور أعلى من نسبة إصابة الإناث .وعلى ضوء النتائج المستحصلة تم وضع توصيات للحد من ارتفاع مستوى البيليروبين عند الأطفال بتشجيع الأمهات على الرضاعة الطبيعية مباشرة بعد الولادة و خلال الساعات الأولى و تثقيف الأمهات والآباء على عدم ممارسة العادات الخاطئة في معالجة هذا المرض, وكذلك مراقبة الأطفال بعد ولادتهم لغرض اكتشاف المرض مبكرا.

Abstract

The study was conducted on 72 cases of pregnant women having caesarean sections (C/S) admitted to Hilla Maternity Teaching Hospital for the period from 1-1-2000 to 29-3-2000.
The incidence of doing C/S for pregnant women increases among patients between 30-35 years (46.222%).
The study shows that the most common causes of having C/S are cervical or vaginal stenosis (37/5%) , mal presentations (22.222%), premature (early) rupture of membranes (11.111%), twin (8.333%), post date of dilvery (8.333%), Fetals distress (5.555%), bleeding and placenta previa (2.777%), hyprtension (2.777%), pre Eclampsia (1.259), and cephalo pelvic disproportion (1.25%).
Besides the most important complication which leads to (C/S) is Anaemia (33.333%) including as well Anaemia associated with pre Eclampsia (23.333%) and Anaemia associated with Hypertension (8.333%).

أجريت الدراسة على عينة تتكون من 72 حالة حمل أجريت لهن العملية القيصرية وثبت أن الفئة العمرية الثالثة (35-30) أكثر عرضة لإجراء العملية بنسبة 46.222% وإن أهم الأسباب المؤدية إليها هي صلابة عنق الرحم بنسبة 37.5% والمجيئات غير الطبيعية 22.222% وانفجار الكيس الأمنيوسي المبكر 11.11% والتوأم وبنسبة 8.333% وتقدم فترة الحمل وبنسبة 8.33% وتعب الجنين لطول فترة الولادة بنسبة 5.555% والنزف مع تقدم المشيمة بنسبة 2.777% وارتفاع ضغط الدم بنسبة 2.777% وتسمم الحمل بنسبة 1.25% وعيوب الرحم والحوض بنسبة 1.25%.
وإن أهم مضاعفات الحمل التي أدت إلى إجراء العملية القيصرية هي إصابة الأم الحامل بفقر الدم بنسبة 33.333% وكذلك فقر الدم مع تسمم الحمل بنسبة 23.11% وفقر الدم المتزامن مع ارتفاع ضغط الدم بنسبة 8.333%.

Clostridium difficile were isolated by 63 (19.3%) from a total of 325 rectal swabs collected from patients who stayed more than one week at Mosul city hospitals who were under treatment with broad spectrum antibiotics, between September 2004 and December 2005 .This study shows that females were more infected with Clostridium difficile than males, and most of our isolation of this isolated microorganism came from elderly patients, also isolation increased in patients with diarrhea comparison with patients without diarrhea

عزلت جراثيم Clostridium difficile بنسبة (%19.3)63 من مجموع 325 مسحة مستقيم rectal swab مأخوذة من مرضى راقدين لمدة أكثر من أسبوع وخاضعين للعلاج بالمضادات الحيوية واسعة الطيف في مستشفيات مدينة الموصل , للفترة من أيلول 2004 ولغاية كانون الأول 2005 . وضحت الدراسة أن نسبة إصابة الإناث أعلى بقليل من الذكور , كذلك فان نسبة الإصابة لدى المسنين كانت مرتفعة جدا إذا ما قورنت مع بقية الفئات العمـرية كما سجـلت هذه الدراسة عزل جراثيـم Clostridium difficile لدى المرضى الذين ظهرت عليهم أعراض الإسهال بدرجة أعلى مما هي عليه لدى المرضى الذين لم تظهر عليهم اعراض الاسهال .

Abstract

A total of 296 blood samples were collected from patients showing with clinical signs of septicemia . The study period was from 1-9 –2002 to 30 –2 –2003 . Bacterial agents were isolated from ( 34.79%) culture Gram negative bacteria were isolated with the highest percentage. Enterobacter sp. was maximally isolated among the pathogenic bacteria ( 20.38 % ) followed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (11.65 %),E. coli ( 8.73 %) then Klebsiellia sp.( 4.85 %) , Actinobacter ( 3.88 % ) , low percentage of Proteus sp. ( 1.94 % ) was obtained in this study . Gram postive bacteria is Staphylococcus epidermidis ( 41.74 % ) and Staphylococcus aureus ( 6.79 % ) only . The proportion of sensitivity of the most common microorganisms to different antibiotics were presented . These antibiotics include : Ampicillin , Amoxycillin , Cloxacillin , Pencillin G , Ceftazidime , Cefotaxime , Trimetheprin , Rifampicin , Titracycillin , Erythromycin , Co – trimoxozol , Norflexacin , Vancomycin , Gentamicin , Tobramycin , Ciprofloxacin and Amikacin

جمعت 296 عينة دم لمرضى يعانون من علامات سريرية لحالة تسمم الدم وجمعت عينات للمدة من 1/9/2002 لغاية 30/2/2003(34.79% ) من عينات حاوية على نمو بكتيري لمختلف أنواع الأحياء المجهرية إذ كانت البكتريا السالبة لصبغة كرام أعلى نسبة حدوث حالة تسمم الدم إذانت بكتريا Enterobacter sp. ( 20,38 % ) تليها بكتريا seudomonas aeruginosa ( 11,65 % ) ثم جاءت بكتريا E. coli (8,73 % ) بعدها جاءت Klebseillia sp. ( 4,85 % ) ثم بكتريا Actinobacter( 3,88 % )وكانت بكتريا Proteus sp. اقل نسبة في حدوث حالة تسمم الدم والتي شكلت نسبة ( 1,94 % ) أما البكتريا الموجبة لصبغة كرام فكانت بكتريا Staphylococcus epidermidis أعلى نسبة في حدوث حالة تسمم الدم إذ شكلت(41,74 %) تليها بكترياStaphylococcus aureus فكانت ( 6,79 % ) تضمنت الدراسة فحص الحساسية لأنواع مختلفة من المضادات الحيوية لهذه الأنواع المختلفة من البكتريا المسببة لحالات تسمم الدم وكانت هذه المضادات هي الامبسلين , الاموكسسلين , الكلوكساسلين , بنسلين ج و سفتازديم و السيفوتاكسيم و الترامثبرين و التتراسايكلين والارثرومايسين و الكوتريموكزازول والجنتاميسين والريفامبسين ونورفلكسين و الفانكومايسين والسبروفلوكساسين و الاميكاسين و البتوبرومايسين .

Abstract

One thousand two hundred and seventy nine samples at Tikreet Teaching Hospital during the period1/ 11/2002to 1/4/2003 were studied. 376 samples were taken from the patient before and after operation, and included 25 samples from the hospital workers, 50 samples from the theatres air before and after the sterilization.This study, the reveals 90 isolate( 47.8%) before after sterelization operation. The hospitals workers reveals 29 isolates(%100).The air of operation theatre showed 27 isolates (100%) before stereilization and 7 isolates (28%) after sterelization . The results show 300 isolates were .Gram positive and 199 isolates were .Gram negative and after sterelization 164 Gram positive and 145Gram negative.On sensitivity tests of antibiotics for the isolated bacteria the result show that most of antibiotics which were resisted d by Gram positive bacteria are erythromycin with ratio 89.4%,Amoxocillin 88%, Ampicillin 86.7%.But the Gram negative bacteria showed resistance toward the antibiotic .Ampicillin with ratio 94.8%, Amoxocillin 93.45, Tetracycliin 92.9%

تم جمع 1279 مسحة من مستشفئ تكريت التعليمي ومن المرضى الراقدين في المستشفى والعاملين فيها. وللمدة من 2002/11/1 ولغاية 2003/4/1 كما أخذت 376 مسحة من المرضى قبل العملية وبعدها (قبل التعقيم وبعده). وشملت 25 مسحة من العاملين في المستشفى، و 50 عزلة من هواء الصالات قبل التعقيم وبعده. ومن خلال هذه الدراسة ظهرت النتائج آلاتية 499 عزلة قبل التعقيم و 309 عزلة بعد التعقيم. . أما المرضى فكانت عزلاتهم 90 عزلة (47.8%) قبل العملية (قبل التعقيم) و140 عزلة (74.4%) بعد العملية (بعد التعقيم). وبالنسبة للعاملين في الصالات فكانت 29 عزلة (100%) . أما هواء صالات العمليات فكانت 27 عزلة (100%) قبل التعقيم و7 عزلات (28%) بعد التعقيم أظهرت النتائج300عزلة موجبة لصبغة كرام و199 عزلة سالبة لصبغة كرام قبل التعقيم. أما بعد التعقيم فكانت164 عزلة موجبة لصبغة كرام و145 عزلة سالبة لصبغة كرام عند اختبار حساسية العزلات الجرثومية للمضادات الحيوية وأظهرت نتائج اختبار الحساسية ان اكثر المضادات الحيوية التى قاومتها البكتريا الموجبة لصبغة كرام هى ايرثرومايسين بنسبة (89.4%)واموكسوسلين بنسسبة(88%)وامبسلين بنسبة( 86.7% ) وعلى التوالى . اما البكتريا السالبة لصبغة كرام فقــد اظهرت اعلى مقاومة تجاه المضادات امبسلين بنسبة (94.8%)واموكسوسلين بنسبة (93.4%)وتتراسايكلين بنسبة (92.9%)

Abstract

Water samples were collected (96 samples) from cooling towers, five species of Legionella were identified, these are, Legionella pneumophila (75isolate),Legionella dumoffii (58isolate), Legionella jordans (52 isolate), Legionella oeakridensis (48 isolate), Legionella micdadei (48 isolate), the number of isolates from the total samples .
Legionella species in the study were susceptibil to Gentamicin, Streptomycin, Rifampin, chloramphenicol, Erythromycin, and resistance to Ampicillin, Penicellin and Cepholothin except Legionella micdadei it was sensitive to Ampicilin, Penicillin and Cephalothin and this species does not produce beta lactamase, while the other species produce beta lactamase enzyme.

Abstract

Four hundered seventy six clinical samples were collected from patients since June 2003 to May 2004 .The number of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from the samples was 163 isolates as follows : urine 52 isolates , wound swab 38 isolates , ear swab 21 isolates , tonsil swab 17 isolates. Boil swab 11 isolates and Nasal swab 24 isolates Alpha hemolysin of Staphylococcus aureus isolates was designated by hemolysin assay It was found that 42 % ( 70 ) of isolates were alpha - hemolysin producers. The extraction of alpha- hemolysin from liquid media from producing isolates was done by cooling centrifugation and purified by ammonium sulphate precipitation and gel - filtration chromatography. Activities of purified alpha - hemolysin were detected , it had 2560 HU/ ml the optimum temperature of alpha - hemolysin activity was 20-40 C and the optimum incubation period was 14hr. The optimum pH of alpha-hemolysin activity was 7.Cytotoxic activity of alpha–hemolysin against human leukocytes were determined and found the survival ratio of human leukocytes was decreased (38%)after treatment with 15 mg/ml for 30 min.while it was lost after treatment with 30 mg/ml for30 min. too.

جمعت أربعمائة وست وسبعون عينة مرضية للفترة من الأول من حزيران 2003 إلى نهاية مايس 2004 وجد إن 163 حالة مرضية كانت بسبب المكورات العنقوديــــــة الذهبية وكانت كالأتي : الإدرار 52 عزلة ، مسحات الجروح 38 عزلة، مسحات الإذن 21 عزلة، مسحات اللوزتين 17 عزلة ، مسحات الخراج 11 عزلة بالإضافة إلى 24 عزلـــــة قد تم جمعها من مســــحات الأنف.
تم التحري عن قابلية عزلات المكورات العنقودية الذهبية على إنتاج الهيمولايسين بواسطة مقايسة الحالة الدموية ووجد إن 70 عزلة شكلت نسبة 42% كانت منتجة للهيمولايسين واستخلص الهيمولايسين من المزروع السائل للعزلة المنتجة المختارة بالنبذ المركزي المبرد وتم تنقيته بالترسيب بكبريتات الامونيوم والترشيح بالهلام كما حددت فعالية الهيمولايسين إذ كانت فعاليته 5260 وحدة تحلل/مل . تم تحدي درجة حرارة الحضن المثلى وتأثيرها على فعالية الهيمولايسين ووجد إن الهيمولايسين ذو فعالية في مدى حراري يتراوح بين 20-40 م. أما فترة الحضانة المثلى فقد كالاتى 14 ساعة والأس الهيدروجيني الأمثل لفعالية الهيمولايسين هو 7. حددت سمية الهيمولايسين المنتج من قبل المكورات العنقودية الذهبية على خلايا الدم البيضاء للإنسان إذ وجد إن هنالك تناقص في عيوشية هذه الخلايا إلى 38% عند معاملتها بتركيز 15 ملغم/مل بعد مرور 30 دقيقه فيما انعدمت عند تركيز 30 ملغم /مل بعد مرور 30 دقيقة أيضا.

Abstract

Background : This study attempts to shed the light on some important factors influencing the risk of breast cancer such as family history, education level, dietary habits, hormonal contraceptives, etc …

Patients and Methods: Survey for breast cancer was carried out on thirty seven female patients with breast cancer diagnosed between 2001 and 2003 in the AL -Kadymia Teaching Hospital . Parameters concerning epidemiological and clinical features are used in this study to determine the significance of the results.

Results: The mostly affected age group was 48-55 years old . About 83% of our patients having a positive family history of breast cancer . The risk of breast cancer is increased in women with a first degree relative with breast cancer . Results also show that most of the women 89% were housewives .

Conclusion: High relative frequency in Iraq , reflects the need for active screening and education programs . Although breast self – examination is reported to be less effective than mammography or examination by a trained physician , it is a valuable approach, simple, inexpensive, non- invasive and non-hazardous , it also encourages women to take responsibility for their own health .

الخلفية : هذه الدراسةِ تُحاولُ تسليط الضوءِ على بَعْض العواملِ المهمة التي تُؤثّرُ على خطرِ سرطان الثدي مثل التأريخِ العائليِ, مستوى التعليم، العادات الغذائية، موانع الحمل الهورمونية، الخ. . .

المرضى وطرق العمل: مسح لسرطان الثدي نُفّذَ في سبعة وثلاثين مريضةِ ’شخّصن بين عام 2001 و 2003 في مستشفى الكاظمية التعليمي .ّاعّتمدت المعايير الوبائية والسريرية في هذه الدراسة لبيان أهمية النَتائِج ِ.

النَتائِج : المجموعة العُمرية المتأثّرة في الغالب كَانتْ بعمر 48-55 سنة.حوالي 83 % من المريضات في الدراسة الحالية يمتلكن تأريخاً عائلياً إيجابياً لسرطان الثدي . إنّ خطرَ سرطان الثدي متزايدُ في النِسـاء بوجود المرض في الأقارب من الدرجة الأولى في محيط العائلة .وقد أوضحت نتائج الدراسة إن 89 %من المريضات كن ربات بيوت .

الخاتمة: المعدل العالي من الإصابات في العراق ، يعكس الحاجة للفحص المتطور ولبرامج التعليم والتثقيف الصحيَ. بالرغم من إن الفحص الذاتي للصدر يُعتقد بأنه أقل فعّالية مِنْ فحص الثدي الشعاعي أَو الفحـصِ مِن قِبل الطبيب، هو فحص بسيط غير مكلف وغير خطر فضلا عن إنه يُشجّعُ النِساءَ أيضاً لتَحَمـُّل المسؤولية اتجاه صحتِهم الخاصة. ِ

Abstract

The relationship of the local image elements in homogeneous regions of the image which are systemized by increasing or decreasing manner, that approachs the linear function. Therefore, we depend on this property for recognition of the edge regions from homogeneous regions, this done via using least square algorithm to fit image data to the linear formula. Then calculate summation of the differences between the real values y(x) and the approximated values Y(x) from the linear function. The small differences are verified in the homogeneous regions of the image where the values of y(x) approach Y(x) values, while the high differences are verified in the non-homogeneous regions (edge regions). Here we can depend on these differences in the edges recognition. We depend on this algorithm to detect the edge for the color image after analysis to its (Red, Green, Blue, and Luminosity). Then apply fitting algorithm each band then calculate the differences to each band and determine the mean value for the four differences in order to compare it with threshold to determine the center element of the mask as an edge or not.
The result of this algorithm produced accurate and good edges comparing with the results of the other edge detection operators.

إن العلاقة بين قيم عناصر الصورة الموضعية في المناطق المتجانسة والمرتبة ترتيبا تصاعديا أو تنازليا مع تسلسلاتها تقترب من الصيغة الخطية. لذا تم اعتماد هذه السمة في تمييز المناطق الحافية عن المتجانسة إذ اعتمدت خوارزمية المربعات الصغرى لتقريب بيانات الصورة الى الصيغة الخطية. ومن ثم حساب مجموع الفروق بين القيم الفعلية y(x) والقيم التقريبية Y(x) من الصيغة الخطية.
أن الفروق الصغيرة تتحقق في مناطق الصورة المتجانسة حيث تقترب قيم y(x) من قيم Y(x) اما الفروق الكبيرة فأنها تتحقق في المناطق غير المتجانسة (مناطق حافية). هنا يمكن اعتماد هذه الفروق في تمييز الحافات. لقد اعتمدنا هذه الخوارزمية في تحديد الحافات في الصورة الملونة بعد تحليلها الى حزمها (الحمراء والخضراء والزرقاء والأضاءة). ثم تطبيق خوارزمية التقريب لكل حزمة و حساب الفروق لكل حزمة و حساب قيمة المعدل لهذه الفروق لغرض مقارنة هذه القيمة مع العتبة لتحديد إن كان عنصر النافذة المركزي يحتل حافة أم لا.
أن النتائج لهذه الخوارزمية تميزت عن الطرق السابقة في حساب الحافات للصورة الملونة وأعطت الدقة في ذلك من خلال أيجاد حافات وحدود جيدة.

Abstract

Ninety six infertile women with lower abdominal acute or chronic pain were studied for the presence of Gonorrhea microorganisms within their cervical discharge. Cervical swabs were collected for direct microscopical examination and culture in Blood-Chocolate Agar and MaconKey Agar. Pure Gonorrhea colonies were tested for oxidase positive reaction as confirmation of Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Results showed that incidence of Gonorrhea infection among the infertile women was low (3.13%). Mixed infection of Gonorrhea and Klebsiella was found to be 5.21%. Majority of case (83.33%) were found to be free of Gonorrhea or Klebsiella microorganisms. All cases of Gonorrhea or Klebsiella infections were found to be associated with cervical discharges. Gonorrhea microorganisms were found to be sensitive to most broad spectrum antibiotics. The results of this research show that Gonorrhea prevalence is low among infertile Iraqi women.

تمت دراسة 96 حالة لنساء عقيمات عانين من الام حادة او مزمنة في اسفل البطن لاجل التحقق من وجود جراثيم مرض السيلان في افرازات عنق الرحم وذلك بأخذ مسحات من عنق الرحم للفحص المجهري المباشر ومسحات اخرى للزرع على مستنبت الدم الساخن ومستنبت مكونكي. جرى فحص عزلات السيلان الصافية بتأثيرها على تفاعل الاوكسيديز كدليل لوجود جراثيم السيلان. أظهرت النتائج نسبة اصابة بلغت 3.13% بين النساء العقيمات بجرثومة السيلان وكانت النسبة 5.21% للاصابة المشتركة بجرثومتي السيلان والكلبسيلا أما الغالبية وبنسبة 83.33% فكانت خالية من جراثيم الكلبسيلا او السيلان. كانت جميع الحالات الموجبة الفحص لجرثومة السيلان او الكلبسيلا مترافقة مع افرازات من عنق الرحم. تم الحصول على حساسية عالية لمسبب مرض السيلان لمجموعة كبيرة من المضادات الحيوية الواسعة الطيف. أظهرت نتائج هذه الدراسة ان الاصابة بالسيلان بين النساء العقيمات كانت قليلة الانتشار

Abstract

Out of the total seven hundred and seventy six ( 776 ) food handlers were examined by direct examination and of intestinal bacterial pathogens were isolated by stool culture the results show the total intestinal pathogens were 238 ( 30.66%) ,150( 19.32%) of them were bacterial pathogens while the remaining 88( 11.34 %) were intestinal parasites.
The main genus among bacterial pathogens was Salmonella 64( 42. 6%) while Giardia lamblia was dominant among intestinal parasites and recoded 44 (5.86 %) food handlers infected with this parasites . The results of this study show the total mixed infection in food handlers was 3.47 % ,0.25 % of them showed double parasites , 1.28 % of them had more than one type of bacteria and 1.93 % had a bacterial and parasitic infection . The high significant difference was reported in the percentage of infection according to the prevalence in August . Bacterial isolations from food handlers were tested for their sensitivity to antibiotics and the results showed a multi resistance to more than three antibiotics in bacterial strain with various percentages.

تم فحص 776 نموذج خروج لعمال أصحاء للتحري عن الطفيليات المعوية و البكتريا المرضية أظهرت النتائج أن العدد الكلي للممرضات المعوية 238 (30.66%) منها 150 (19.32 %) ممرضات بكتيرية أما الباقي 88 (11.34%) يعود إلى الممرضات الطفيلية.
تبين أن جنس Salmonella كان الأكثر انتشاراً ضمن الممرضات البكتيرية إذ تم عزل 64 عزلة مثلت 42.6 % من الممرضات البكتيرية وإنّ الجيارديا اللمبيليا كانت الأكثر انتشاراً ضمن الممرضات الطفيلية إذ كان 44عاملاً مصاباً بهذا الطفيلي بنسبة 5.86% و إن نسبة الإصابات المشتركة كانت 4’ 3 % منهم 0.25 % يحملون أكثر من طفيلي و1.28% يحملون أكثر من نوع بكتيري و 1. 93% يحملون بكتريا وطفيلي في آن واحد. ولوحظ أن هناك فرق معنوي عال بين نسبة إصابة عمال الأغذية بالممرضات المعوية خلال اشهر الدراسة إذ سجل أعلى نسبة إصابة في شهر آب. تم أجراء فحص الحساسية الدوائية لجميع العزلات البكتيرية و لوحظ وجود مقاومة لأكثر من ثلاثة مضادا ت حياتية بنسب مختلفة بين العزلات.

Abstract

This study presents results of comparing four in vitro conjugal transfer techniques, colony cross streak (CCS), broth mating (BM), combined spread plate (CSP), and membrane filtration (MF) with each other in evaluating the transfer of cojugative plasmids. Vibrio cholerae 01 MZW 41 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa W109, were used as mating pairs.
The suitability of each method was evaluated for use in a routine assessment of the genetic stability of genetically transconjugated microorganism. By the BM technique, transconjugants were usually produced in 100% of the mating traits. In general, differences in the percentage of successful mating show that BM technique is statically significant at the P ≤ 0.05 level, compared with CCS, CSP, and MF techniques. Since the genetic exchange between Vibrio and Pseudomonas was not detected previously (an exception to this, what has been reported by Al – Amili, W.A. (2001), and any single conjugation transconjugants. We have used a combined mating technique which integrates the CCS, CSP, BM, and MF method as a single procedure to assess the mobility of plasmid DNA of genetically transconjugated microorganisms

تظهر هذه الدراسة نتائج مقارنة أربعة تقنيات إنتقال إقتراني في الزجاج هي, التخطيط المتقاطع للمستعمرات (CCS), التزاوج بالسائل (BM), طبق النشر المركب (CSP), والترشيح الغشائي (MF) مع بعضها في تقييم إنتقال البلازميدات الاقترانية. بكتريا ضمات الكوليرا 01 MZW 41 و بكتريا الزائفة الزنجارية W109 أُستخدمت كأزواج تزاوج. ملائمة كل طريقة قيمت للاستخدام في التقدير الروتيني للثبات الوراثي للميكروبات المقترنة وراثياً.
بإستخدام تقنية BM, انتجت المقترنات عادة نسبة 100% لخواص التزاوج , بصورة عامة. الاختلافات في النسبة المئوية للتزاوجات الناجحة اظهرت ان تقنية BM كانت معنوية احصائياً عند مستوى P ≤ 0.05 مقارنة مع تقنيات CCS, CSP و MF . بما ان التبادل الوراثي بين بكتريا الضمات وبكتريا الزائفة لم يلاحظ مسبقاً (عدا ما نشر من قبل AL – Amili, W.A. (2001)). و إن اي تقنية تزاوج اقتراني مفردة لا تكون موثوقة بصورة تامة في ملاحظة المقترنات, إستخدمنا تقنية مرَكبة للتزاوج والتي تكامل الطرق BM, CSP, CCS, و MF كطريقة عمل مفردة لتقدير قابلية تحرك الدنا البلازميدي للميكروبات المقترنة وراثياً.

Abstract

The aim of the present study is to determine the sperm DNA content in subfertile persons and correlate it with sperm motility.
A random sample of 64 subfertile males attending the Institute for Embryo Research and Infertility Treatment, University of Baghdad , were enrolled in this study through years 2004-2005 . The patients age ranged 20-45 years and their samples were assessed for sperm motility by direct light microscopy. DNA content (µg / ml) in sperm was estimated using a microchemical spectrophotometric method and data were classified into three groups according to sperm motility percent (>60% , 20-60% ,and <20 % ).
The results show that data of percent motility of the three groups were statistically of significant difference ( P<0.01) . The sperm DNA content (µg / ml) showed a non significant positive correlation ( P>0.05 ), in the normal and severe asthenospermic groups and negative in the asthenospermic group. No statistically significant difference ( P>0.05) of sperm DNA content between the three groups was obtained .It can be concluded that sperm motility is not related to D N A level in subfertile males.

ان الهدف من هذه الدراسة هو تعيين مستوىحامض الـ D N A في نطف مرضى ضعيفي الخصوبة وعلاقته مع حركةالنطف في السائل المنوي. ادرج اربعة وستون نموذجا عشوائيا من المرضى الذكور المراجعين لمعهدابحاث الاجنة وعلاج العقم – جامعة بغداد خلال عامي 2004-2005 تراوحت اعمارهم من 20 الى 45سنة. تم تقييم حركة النطف بوساطة المجهر الضوئي كما تم قياس مستوى حامض الـ D N A (مايكروغرام في المللتر الواحد) بواسطة طريقة طيفية ضوئية كيمياوية دقيقة. صنفت البيانات الى ثلاث مجاميع وحسبت النسبة المئويه لحركه النطاف ( > 60 % و 20-60% و<20 %) . اظهرت النتائج ان البيانات للنسب المئوية لحركة نطاف المني في المجاميع الثلاثة كانت بفروقات احصائية معنوية <0.01) P) . لوحظ ان مستوى حامض الـ D N A مع حركة النطف كان على علاقة موجبة غير معنويةP > 0.05)) في مجموعتي الاسوياء normal وشديدي الضعف severe asthenospermicلحركة النطف وسالبة في مجموعة ضعيفي حركة النطفasthenospermic . لم تظهرفروقات معنوية في مستوى الحامض(P > 0.05 ) بين المجاميع الثلاثة. يمكن الاستنتاج ان حركة النطف ليس لها علاقة مع مستوى حامض الـ D N A في الذكور ضعيفي الخصوبة

THE USE OF PROSTHETIC MESH IN BIG VENTRAL POSTOPERATIVE HERNIA REPAIR

Abstract

Big abdominal postoperative hernia remains a challenge for surgeons as it usually needs tension on margins of the abdominal wall defect during closure ; besides , factors that predispose to the development of incisional hernia are relative contraindications to repair. In this study the prosthetic mesh was used to evaluate the benefits of its use in such difficult cases.
Thirteen selected patients with big ventral postoperative hernia were underwent herniorrhaphy by onlay prosthetic mesh repair , from March 1996 till January 2003. The criteria for selection were inability to close the abdominal wall defect without tension, and the patients were followed up for at least one year after the operation.
After the operation there was marked improvement in respiration , abdominal movement and the shape of the abdomen , especially in standing position . All these patients were followed up for at least one year after the operation , and no recurrence was found, with exception of one patient (7.69 %) who had recurrence after eight months from the operation .
It was found that the use of prosthetic mesh in repair , gave good results , that coincids with the other reported results (recurrence less than 10 % ), and the main reason for low recurrence rate is the " tension – free '' repair .

أجريت عمليات ريافة الفتوق الجراحية الأمامية للبطن لثلاثة عشر مريضا للفترة من اذار1996 إلى كانون الثاني 2003 ,باستخدام الشبكة البديلة . وقد تم اختيارهم للمواصفات التالية : عدم إمكانية غلق فتحة الفتق بدون شد (توتير) للعضلات , و متابعة المرضى لمدة عام على الأقل. وقد تم إعطاء المرضى مضادات حياتية احترازيا , قبل العملية ولمدة عشرة ايام بعد العملية .
وقد أدت العملية إلى تحسن في التنفس وأداء عضلات البطن للمريض وتحسن في منظر البطن خاصة فى الوقوف . ولم يحدث رجوعاً للفتق (انتكاس) خلال سنة بعد العملية , إلا في مريض واحد (7,69%) الذي حدث بعد ثمانية أشهر من العملية .
لقد تبين أن استخدام الشبكة البديلة في ريافة هذه الفتوق يعطي نتائج جيدة , تتفق مع النتائج المنشورة في الدوريات (اقل من 10% خلال سنة من المتابعة بعد العملية) , و السبب الرئيسي للنسبة القليلة لرجوع الفتق بعد الريافة بهذه الطريقة هو عدم وجود شد على مكان الريافة .

Abstract

Fifty samples of urine were collected from infants under 10 months of age suffering from urinary tract infection visiting children hospital .All urine samples which had been collected from patient showed pus cells by microscopical examination .Culture was done for each sample to find out the causative agents ( bacteria ) and their antimicrobial sensitivity . The most effective antibiotic forE.coil ,klebsiella and mixed E.coil and proteus infection was furantin , trimethoprim was the next to both E.coil and klebsiella and amoxicillin was the drug of choice in treating strepto coccus pyogen . Trimethoprim was the drug choice in treating sterptococcal fecalise .
Proteus species showed eguivocal sensitivity for each of furantin ,trimethroprim , ceflazidime ,ceflxime , amikacin and nalidixic acid .
All samples which were collected from patient showed that urinary tract infection occurs more in females than in males which were 29cases 58% ,21 cases 42% respectively.

خمسون نموذجاً جمعت من أطفال تحت سن عشرة اشهر من العمر يعانون من التهاب المجاري البولية . جميع النماذج التي جمعت من المرضى عند فحصها مجهرياً ظهرت فيها خلايا قيحية .
ثم زرعت النماذج المذكورة اعلاه وذلك لمعرفة المسبب للالتهاب ونوع البكتريا المعزولة من النماذج .كما اجري فحص الحساسية للمضادات الحيوية لجميع النماذج التي جمعت من المرضى كما وجد ان التهاب المجاري يحدث اكثر في ألأناث مما هو عليه في الذكور 29حالة بنسبة 58 % أما بالذكور 21 حالة بنسبة42 % .

Abstract

Alkaline phosphatase activity, Calcium concentration and 17 ß-Estradiol level were measured in sera of (20 male, 18 female) .Osteoporotic patients their ages ranged from (50 to 82) years old, and (28) normal individual (control)whose ages ranged between (54 and 70) years old. The results indicate a highly significant increase (p<0.001) in Alkaline phosphatase activity, Calcium concentration and 17 ß-Estradiol level between patients (male and female), also between Ostesporotic patients when compared with that of normal individual. While significant increase of (p<0.05) in Calcium concentration when compared between female osteoporotic patients and normal individual (control).
Our aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between Osteoporosis and the level of Alkalin Phosphatase,Serum Calcium and 17 ß-Estradiol level .

تم قياس فعالية انزيم الفوسفاتيز القاعدي Alkaline phosphatase وتركيز الكالسيوم ومستوى 17 بيتا استراديول 17-B-Estradiol في مصل الدم للمرضى المصابين بتنخر العظام(20 ذكراً و 18 أنثى ) والتي تتراوح اعمارهم بين (50-82) سنة ومقارنة مع (28) شخصاً طبيعياً (مجموعة التحكم) اعمارهم تتراوح بين (54-70) سنة أظهرت النتائج زيادة عالية (p<0.001) في فعالية أنزيم Alkaline phosphatase وتركيز الكالسيوم ومستوى 17 بيتا استراديول 17-B-Estradiol بين المرضى(ذكوراً وإناثاً) ، وكذلك بين مرضى تنخر العظام عند مقارنتهم بالأشخاص الطبيعيين. بينما أظهرت النتائج زيادة ملحوظة(p<0.001) في تركيز الكالسيوم عند مقارنة المرضى الاناث المصابات بتنخر العظام والاشخاص الطبيعيين(مجموعة التحكم) .

Abstract

The influence of chlorhexidine as a mouth wash on the staining ability of hot cure acrylic resin (pink and clear) is studied .Forty clear and pink hot cure acrylic resin specimens were divided into 4 groups, each group contained 10 specimens’ . Each group was placed into different combinations of soaking and rinsing solutions (saliva, 0.2%chlorhexidine, and distilled water) for six consecutive days. The results showed that chlorhexidine produces significant change in the optical density of hot cure acrylic resin of both the pink (p<0.05) and the clear (p<0.01).

قابلية تلوين الكلورهكسدين كغسول للفم للراتنج الاكريلي ذات التصلب الحراري( الوردي والشفاف) تمت دراسة تاثير الكلورهكسدين كغسول للفم لتلوين للراتنج الاكريلي ذي التصلب الحراري (الوردي و الشفاف ).
قسم اربعون نموذجاً من الراتنج الاكريلي ذي التصلب الحراري الوردي والشفاف الى اربع مجاميع. كل مجموعة تحتوي على عشرة نماذج. كل مجموعة وضعت في انواع مختلفة من محاليل الغسل والغطس ( لعاب ، 2% كلورهكسدين، الماء المقطر) لمدة ستة ايام متتالية.
النتائج اظهرت ان الكلورهكسدين له القابلية على تلوين الراتنج الاكريلي ذي التصلب الحراري الوردي(p<0.05) والشفافp<0.01)).
أظهر الراتنج الاكريلي ذو التصلب الحراري الشفافp<0.01) ) تاثراً اكثر مقارنة بالراتنج الاكريلي ذي التصلب الحراري الوردي عندما تم غطسه في الكلورهكسدين.

Two isolates of Oxalobacter formigenes were examined for their ability to colonize the intestinal tract of adult laboratory rats. These rats did not harbour O. formigenes. Both strains succeeded in colonizing the intestinal tract of adult rats fed a diet that contained 4 % sodium oxalate. Three days after rats were inoculated orally with 109 viable cells of the two strains, oxalate concentration in rat's urine markedly decreased. اختبرت قابلية عزلتين من Oxalobacter formigenes لاستيطان القناة المعوية لجرذان المختبر البالغةالتي لا تاوي هذه البكتريا. نجحت كلتا السلالتين في استيطان القناة المعوية لجرذان بالغة تغذت على عليقة تحوي 4% اوكزالات الصوديوم. بعد ثلاثة ايام من التلقيح الفموي بحوالي 109 خلية حية من هاتين السلالتين، انخفض تركيز الاوكزالات بشكل ملحوظ في ادرار هذه الجرذان. لم يكشف عن وجود السلالتين كلتاهما في فضلات الحيوانات الملقحة و المتغذية على عليقة حاوية على اقل من 3% اوكزالات الصوديوم.

Abstract

In this study we have compared the effect of same materials like AgNo3 and clarythromycin as antibiotic in different concentration on the production of the slime and expolysaccharide which are produced from klebsiella sp . The results show that the concentration (4 mg/ml) of the AgNo3 has a positive effect , increasing the production of the slime and exopolysaccharide ,conversely the effect of clarythromycine was negative by decreasing the production of the slime and exopolysaccharide from klebsiella sp especially in the high concentration of this antibiotic .

Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out the miscellaneous bacterial infections of prostatitis and also ages at which infection heppens and the effect of antibiotics against isolated bacteria. The study was carried out in the Basrah hospitals , from January 2002 to 2004 . A total of 163 patients at ages # 40 and > years , klebsiella spp 33.12 % , Escherichia coil 28.83 % , proteus spp 10.42 % , Staphylococcus cureus 8. 58% , Beta haemolytic streptococci 7.36%, Pseudomonas aeruginosa 4.90% , Staphylococcus saprophyticus 3.68%,Enterobacter spp 2.45%, and finally Neisseria gonorrhoeae 0.61% numbers of cases with age # 40 were l07patients(65.64%),less than 40 years were 56 cases ( 34.36%). تهدف هذه الدراسة الى ايجاد انواع الاصابات الجرثومية المختلفة للبروستات ، ومدى الفئة العمرية ، اضافة الى تأثير انواع من المضادات الحيوية على هذه الجراثيم المعزولة . استمرت الدراسة لمدة سنتين منذ عام 2002-2004 ، في مستشفيات البصرة ، تم اخذ الحالات المرضية والبالغة 163 حالة مرضية باعمار اكبر من 40 سنة واقل من ذلك ، تم عزل 12 و33% من الكلبسيلا ، 83 و 28 الاشيرثييا القولونية ، 42 و 10 % المتقلبات ، 58و8 المكورات العنقودية الذهبية ، 36و 7% المكورات المسبحية تحلل بيتا ، 90و 4% الزوائف الزنجارية ، 68و3% المكورات الرمية ، 45و2% الانتيروبكتر ، وشكلت النايسيريا المسببة للسيلان 61و0% عدد الحالات المرضية اكبر من عمر 40 سنة شكلت مجموع 107 وبنسبة 64و65% ، اما الاعمار اقل من 40 فقد فشلت نسبة 36و34% من مجموع 56حالة ، اظهر فحص الحساسية الدوائية تأثيراً فعالاً للسبروفلوكساسين ، السلفاميثوكس، وتأثيراً اقل للارثرومايسين، السلفا ، نايتروفيوراتين، سيفالوكسين ومقاومة للاوكسي سايكلين والامبلسيلين.

Abstract

Background:Different thyroid disorders may cause variation in serum protein fractions together with other biochemical parameters. Electrophoresis is one of the main important tools used to determine serum protein fractions.
Aim of the study: To assess the possible utility of biochemical parameters and serum protein fractions in differentiating, classifying and may be aiding the diagnosis of different thyroid disorders.
Patients and methods: A total of 145 subjects were enrolled in this study , they were 30 healthy individuals ( control group )and 115 patients with different thyroid disorders (patients group). The latter was subdivided into four other subject groups categorized according to the type of disorder. Parameters studied in this work included: Serum Total protein (Tp) and protein electrophoresis fractions (Albumin Alb ,α1 , α2 , β and γ globulin fractions).
Results: There was a significant decrease in serum albumin level in all patient groups studied. On the other hand glycoprotein electrophorogrems reveled a variation in protein fraction that deepen on the type of thyroid disorders studied .

الهدف من البحث:
لتقييم أمكانية أستخدام الدلأئل الكيميائية وأجزاء بروتين الدم في تمييز, مختلف أضطرابات الغدة الدرقية وتصنيفها وبهدف تشخيصها.

Abstract

A retrospective cross – sectional study was carried out to show the prevalence of malaria infection in kirkuk province for period from 2000-2004 .It was found that overall rate of infection was (0.05%)by P.vivax ,the 0.6% in males 0.4% in females The infection rate was higest in 2000 (0.08%) and was lowest in 2004 (0.03%) .
The rate of infections varied by season . The infection was highest in autumn (0.36%).
The positive case of P. vivax was detected in Al-Dibis sector (0.17%) and in kirkuk sector (0.07%) .No cases were detected in Dakok and Hawija 1 and Hawija 2 districts .

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the seroprevalence and the incidence rates of Toxoplasma gondii infection, as well as to follow-up the events of seroconversion during the gestation period in a group of pregnant women (irrespective of their ages) living in the Wasit governorate /Iraq during the period from January 2004 to March 2005 .
The seroprevalence rate of T.gondii infection was screened which ranged from 22.42% to 27.75% (mean 25.05%) for the three samples that were taken along the three trimesters of pregnancy from 272, 252 and 245 pregnant women in the first, second and third trimesters respectively.
The incidence rate for T.gondii infection was 4.76% for the period between the first and second trimesters of pregnancy, whereas it was 7.12% for the period between the second and third trimester of pregnancy. Different patterns of seroconversion had occurred during the gestation period which was used to estimate the approximate time of infection whether it was during or before pregnancy which is of a vital importance as a risk factor for the rate of transmission of infection from mothers to fetuses

استهدفت هذه الدراسة تقصي نسبة الأنتشار السيرولوجي ومعدل حدوث الأصابة بطفيلي المقوسات القندية, وكذلك متابعة التغيرات السيرولوجية في امصال مجموعة نساء حوامل مصابات خلال فترة حملهن, وقد اجريت الدراسة في محافظة واسط/العراق لفترة من كانون الثاني (يناير) 2004 الى أذار(مارس) 2005 . تراوحت نسبة الأنتشار السيرولوجي للأصابة بالطفيلي المذكورما بين 22,42% و 27,75% (بمعدل 25,05%) للنماذج المصلية الثلاثة التي أخذت خلال فترات الحمل الأولى وألثانية و ألثالثة على ألتوالي, أما معدل حدوث الأصابة بألطفيلي ألمذكورفقد كانت 4,76% للفترة بين مدة ألحمل الأولى وألثانية و 6,12% لفترة ما بين مدتي الحمل ألثانية وألثالثة.
كانت التحولات السيرولوجية في المصول المأخوذة من النساء الحوامل خلال فترات الحمل ألثلاثة مختلفا وبهيئات متعددة وان طبيعة هذه التحولات كان لها دلالة في ترجمة النتائج لتقدير عمر الأصابة بالطفيلي ان كانت قبل او اثناء الحمل والذي يعتبر عاملا مهما في تحديد مدى خطورة انتقال المرض من الأمهات الحوامل ألمصابات الى اجنتهن.

Abstract

Antihelmintics were assessed against various gastrointestinal and lung worms infecting a flock of sheep kept in the AL-Rashdia Province ,the efficacy of the drugs was assessed by following the faecal egg counts post–treatment in the infected sheep compared to that of control non treated group .
Gastrointestinal helminthes infecting sheep flock were Ostertagia spp, Chabertia ovina,Strongyloides spp , Nematodirus spp,Marshallagia marshalli and Moniezia expansa , Lungworms were Dictyocaulus filaria,Muellerius capillaris and Protostronglus spp . The efficacies were 90% , 88.63% ,97.62% and 100% for levamisole, lvomic, tetramisole, and albendazole against different gastrointestinal nematodes respectively. Albendazole was 100 % effective against M.expansa and D.filaria so did, Tetramisole for the second parasite, while Levamisole was not effective against D.filaria or M.capillaris

استخدمت انواع من مضادات الديدان ضد انواع مختلفة من ديدان المعدة و الامعاء وديدان الرئة في قطيع من الاغنام الخمجة في منطقة الراشدية . اذ تم الكشف عن كفائتها العلاجية من خلال عد البيوض المطروحة مع البراز بعد علاج الاغنام الخمجة مقارنةً بمجموعة السيطرة غير المعالجة .
شملت ديدان المعدة والامعاء في الاغنام الخمجة الانواع التالية:-
Ostertagia spp, Chabertia ovina,Strongyloides spp ,
Nematodirus spp, Marshallagia marshalli and Moniezia expansa ,
وديدان الرئه ضمت الانواع التالية:-

وكانت كفاءة العلاجات هي 90% و 88.63 % و 97.6% و 100% لـدواء الليفاميزول ، ايفومك ، تتراميزول و البندازول على التوالي ضد انواع مختلفة من الديدان الاسطوانية للمعدة والامعاء . وكانت الكفاءه العلاجية للبندازول 100% ضد الطفيليات Moniezia expansa وDictyocaulus filaria وكذلك تتراميزول ضد الطفيلي الثاني بينما . الليفاميزول لم يكن فعالاً ضد الانواع

Abstract

The effect of unsupervised brushing with a dentifrice containing antiplaque agent, 1%chlorhexidine, on gingival health, plaque, supragingival calculus, and the oral flora was compared to that of brushing with a non-active control dentifrice. Volunteers were given oral hygiene instruction and their teeth were professionally cleaned. They then were stratified into two groups on the basis of their initial plaque, gingival bleeding, and calculus levels, sex, and age. Over the following 6 months, one group was used as the control while the other used the test dentifrice. Plaque levels, gingival bleeding, and calculus were assessed at baseline and at 3 and 6 months. Supragingival plaque was sampled for microbiological analysis at the initial examination, at 3 and 6 months (conclusion of study period). Representative oral bacteria and the development of bacterial resistance to chlorhexidine were monitored.
Results show that plaque was reduced and gingival health significantly improved. During the experimental period, this improvement was not maintained by the control group as gingival bleeding and calculus increased. In contrast, gingival bleeding and calculus levels of the test group were maintained significantly below those of the placebo group. Plaque levels were lower in the test group after 3 and 6 months, but the groups were not significantly (P = 0.05) different. No shifts in oral flora or development of bacterial resistance to chlorhexidine were detected

تمت مقارنة تأثير الإشراف على تنظيف الأسنان باستعمال الفرشاة ومعجون أسنان يحتوي مضاد بكتيري (1%)كلور هكسدين على صحة اللثة،ألصفيحة الجرثومية،تكلسات فوق اللثة والأحياء ألمجهرية المتواجدة في الفم مع تنظيف الأسنان باستعمال معجون أسنان اعتيادي بدون عناصر فعالة.تم أعطاء المتطوعين تعليمات حول صحة الفم ونظاف الأسنان بعد أن تم تنظيفها من قبل مختص وقد قسموا إلى مجموعتين على أساس ابتدائي يشمل ألصفيحة الجرثومية،نزف اللثة،مستوى التكلسات،الجنس،العمر. تم تقييم مستويات ألصفيحة الجرثومية،نزف اللثة،ومستوى التكلس قبل البدء وبعد ثلاثة اشهر وست اشهر من استعمال المجموعتين للمعاجين المختلفة (المعجون مع المعقم والمعجون الاعتيادي).تم تشخيص البكتريا المتواجدة في الفم وحدوث مقاومة من قبلها قبل وبعد استعمال المعجون الحاوي على الكلور هكسدين وأظهرت النتائج أن مستوى ألصفيحة الجرثومية وصحة اللثة تدل على التحسن لثناء فترة التجربة , ذلك التحسن لم يبق على المستوى نفسه بالنسبة للمجموعة التي تستعمل معجون اسنان اعتيادي إذ أن نزف اللثة و التكلسات قد زادت , على العكس أن نزف اللثة و مستوى التكلسات للمجموعة التي تستعمل معجون الكلورهيكسدين قد بقيت اقل من المجموعة الأخرى ولم يلاحظ ازدياد او تطور مقاومة بكتيرية للكلور هكسدين.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the differences in gingival inflammation and pocket depth in relation to the upper and lower jaws . 150 sites were selected with pocket that are more than 5 mm in depth in 9 patients suffering from chronic periodontitis. The pockets were measured by constructing a stent and grooves were cut in the sent. A William probe was used and a mark on the probe was made to measure the pocket depth (PD) from mark to the tip of the probe with a vernier .
The patients were longitudinally followed in a sequence of 4 visits of one week interval .V1 represents the base line reading, V2 after O.H.I., V3 after scaling & V4 after root planning . At each visit the PD was recorded, in addition the GI was score .The results indicate an overall reduction in PD reading due to resolution of the inflammation, the effect is more pronounced on the buccal and lingual surface compared to proximal surface . This is true for each quadrant upper and lower jaws, left and right .

ان الغاية من هذه الدراسة هي تعيين الاختلافات في الالتهاب اللثوي وقياس الجيوب اللثوية للفك العلوي والسفلي الايمن والايسر .
اختير 150 سطحاً مصاباً بالنساغ المزمن مع وجود جيوب بعمق اكثر من 5 سم عند 9 مرضى وقد اتبع عمل جهاز اكريلكي لكل مريض , الغاية منه احتساب عمق الجيب واستخدام مسبار من نوع Williams وقيست المسافات باستعمال Vernier . وقد تم متابعة المرضى على مدى اربعة اسابيع وذلك لزيارة واحدة في كل اسبوع اعتبرت الزيارة الاولى لحساب القاعدة وفيها اعطي كل مريض ارشادات للسيطرة على الصفيحة الجرثومية اما في الزيارة الثانية فقد تم تقليح الاسنان وفي الزيارة الثالثة اجري تسطيح او تنعيم الجذور في كل زيارة اخذت القياسات لعمق الجيوب والتهاب اللثة باستخدام مؤشر اللثة .
بينت النتائج انخفاض عاماً في عمق الجيوب عند زوال الالتهاب علماً ان هذا الانخفاض كان اكثر في السطوح الدهليزية والسابقة مقارنة بالسطوح الوحضية والانسية والفرق عالي الدلالة العلمية. بالنتيجة نفسها ايضاً بالنسبة لكل ربع في الجهتين اليسرى واليمنى ايضاً والفك الاسفل والفك الاعلى .

Abstract

Lung cancer is responsible for the most cancer deaths in both men and women throughout the world. Deaths from lung cancer (160,440 in 2004, according to the National Cancer Institute) exceed the number of deaths from four other major cancers combined (breast, colon, pancreatic and prostate). This descriptive retrospective study was performed using the records of 390 patients proved to have lung cancer aiming to assess the behavior and the approaches of lung cancer in a sample of Iraqi patients.
The results of this study reveal that 71.8% of the patients were male, with a mean age of 63 years. The majority of the patients (90.2%) were smokers, the number of cases increases with the increase in the duration of smoking or the amount of daily cigarette smoking. Cough is the most common clinical findings, found in 98.5% of patients, followed by haemoptysis (64.1%). Chest x-ray, sputum cytology, bronchoscope and computerized tomography (CT)-scan are the back bone in the diagnosis in the majority of the cases. Chemotherapy and/ or radiotherapy are the primary management of 75.9% and the surgical choice was in 24.1% of the patients, but the tumors were removed only in 42.5% of operable patients.

خلفية الدراسة. يعد سرطان الرئة من الامراض الخطيرة التي ازداد نسبة حدوثها في الاعوام السابقة بصورة ملحوظة في جميع انحاء العالم نتيجة تفشي ظاهرة التدخين بين افراد المجتمع و بضمنهم النساء.
هدف الدراسة. التعرف على عوامل الخطورة , طريقةالظهور, نتائج التحاليل الطبية و الخطوات المتبعة في العلاج لمرض سرطان الرئة في عينة من المرضى العراقيين.
طريقة الدراسة. تمت دراسة الوثائق الطبية لـ 390 مريضا مصابين بمرض سرطان الرئة (تم التشخيص بواسطة التحليل النسيجي) من الذين يراجعون قسم جراحة الصدر في مستشفى الجراحات التخصصية / بغداد. تم تحليل توزيعهم الديموغرافي, الاعراض السريرية, نتائج التحاليل وطريقة العلاج لهؤلاء المرضى.
نتائج الدراسة. نسبة المرض عند الذكور الى الاناث بلغت 2.5: 1 معدل العمر 62 سنة , نسبة المدخنين 90.2% , السعال موجود عند 98.5 % من المرضى. اشعة الصدر كانت غير طبيعية في 97.4% ,تحليل خلايا البلغم اكد تشخيص 59.3% من المرضى الذين اجري لهم, الناظور القصبي اجري لـ 83.6% و كان ايجابيا في63.2%, اجري المفراس الحلزوني و الرنين لـ 89,2% . لم يتم تشخيص المرض في 5.6% من المرضى الا بعد اجراء التداخل الجراحي. معظم المرضى( 75.9%) عولجوا بواسطة العلاج الكيمياوي و الاشعاعي و كان التداخل الجراحي في 24.1% فقط. اكدت الدراسة اهمية الوقاية من المرض و ذلك بالتوقف عن التدخين الذي هو السبب الرئيسي للمرض في حوالي 90% من الرضى.

A 268 donkeys slaughtered at Al- Zawra abattoir has been examined from July 2000 till August 2001, aged 6 months - 22 years . It was found that 4.10% of donkeys were infected with Fasciola sp. مسح الإصابة بديدان الكبد في الحمير المذبوحة في حديقة متنزه الزوراء في بغداد للمدة من تموز 2000 ولغاية حزيران 2001 . فحصت أعضاء 268 حمارًا ,تراوحت أعمارها بين ستة اشهر و 22سنة. بلغت نسبة الإصــابة 4.10% . لم يلاحظ قنوات صفراء متكلسة ولا التليف الكبدي

Abstract

Hydatid disease is endemic in Thi-Qar province. A total of 349 surgical proven cases were studied in Thi-Qar. The infection rate was higher in females 229(65.8%) than the males 119(34.19%). The ages of the patients varied from one year to 80 with high peak in (30-40) year's age group. The most affected organ is the liver 269(77%) followed by kidney 47(13.4%) and other organs 33(9.45%). The incidence of surgical cases is estimated for entire Thi-Qar province. It was4.8 cases per 100000 (medium incidence level) per year.

يعد مرض الاكياس العدرية من الامراض المتوطنة في محافظة ذي قار. لقد تمت دراسة 349 حالة مشخصة جراحيا، أذ وجد ان نسبة الخمج بالاناث 65.8% اعلى من الذكور 34.19%. تراوحت أعمار المرضى المخمجين من عمر سنة واحدة لغاية الثمانين وكانت اعلى نسبة اصابة هي في الفئة العمرية 31-40 سنة.
ان اكثر الاعضاء تأثرا بالاصابة هو الكبد 77% وتليه الرئتان 13.4%، اما بقية الاعضاء الاخرى فكانت نسبة الاصابة بها 9.45%. علما ان اعلى نسبة اصابة كانت في مركز المحافظة.

Abstract

Copper, zinc and iron trace elements were measured in tissue extracts of (37) patients with brain tumors (benign 19 and malignant 18) using flameless atomic absorption technique. Astrocytoma, Glioma and Meningioma are subgroups of brain tumors, which were investigated in this study. The results indicate a highly significant increase (p<0.001) in these trace elements with malignant brain tumors compar with that of benign brain tumors, the same results were found in subgroup astrocytoma and glioma, while insignificant increase (p>0.05) in subgroup meningioma of malignant patients.

تم قياس تركيز العناصر الضئيلة النحاس , الزنك والحديد في خلاصة انسجة (37) مريضاً بورم الدماغ(19 حميد , 18 خبيثاً) باستخدام تقنية الامتصاص الذري أللالهبي , وتم التحري عن الفروقات الموجودة بين تركيز هذه العناصر أعلاه في المستخلص النسيجي لتلك الاورام(الحميدة والخبيثة) في المجاميع الفرعية لأورام الدماغ وهي astrocytoma , glioma , meningioma .أشارت النتائج الى ما يلي :
إن تركيز هذه العناصر قد ارتفعت بصورة معنوية عالية (P<0.001) في خلاصة أنسجة المصابين بالأورام الخبيثة مقارنة مع المصابين بألاورام الحميدة . وظهرت في النتيجة نفسها نتائج المجاميع الفرعيةglioma astrocytoma , .بينما لم يظهر أي اختلاف معنوي في تركيز هذه العناصر (p<0.001) في المجموعة الفرعية من نوع meningioma .

Abstract

Susceptibility of Staphylococcus aureus to gentamicin, nalidixic acid, ampicillin, amoxicillin and seven antiseptic agents: detol, ethanol (70 %), sodium hypochlorite, povidin iodine, iodine, hapitin, and septol, was evaluated using disc diffusion method on elevated NaCl containing media. Resistance to Ampicillin and Amoxicillin was changed to susceptibility when Staphylococcus aureus was cultured on this media. The diameter of the zone of inhibition has a direct relationship with the NaCl concentration in the media. Laboratory rats were infected experimentally by Staphylococcus aureus. Results prove that all those animals were unsuccessfully treated, since it is possible to isolate Staphylococcus aureus from their urine samples, by ampicillin or amoxicillin alone but they get cured when they received antibiotics in combination with NaCl injection

قيمت استجابة بكتريا Staphylococcus aureusللجنتامايسين و حامض الناليدكسيك و الامبيسيلين و الاموكسيسيلين و لسبعة عوامل مطهرة: هي الديتول و الايثانول (70 %) و هايبوكلورايت الصوديوم و البوفيدين ايودين و اليود و الهابتين و السبتول، باستعمال طريقة الانتشار بالاقراص على وسط زرعي حاو على تراكيز متزايدة من كلوريد الصوديوم. المقاومة للامبيسيلين و الاموكسيسيلين تغيرت الى استجابة عندما زرعت على ذلك الوسط. وكان لقطر هالة التثبيط علاقة طردية مع تركيز كلوريد الصوديوم في الوسط. اصيبت جرذان مختبرية تجريبيا ببكتريا Staphylococcus aureus . اثبتت النتائج فشل علاج تلك الحيوانات بالامبيسيلين او بالاموكسيسيلين فقط (إذ تم عزل البكتريا من ادرارها) بينما شفيت عند علاجها بهذين المضادين مع الحقن بـ 9% كلوريد الصوديوم.
