The Poetic Language and Its Stylistic Devices during the Amirid Dynasty in al-Andalus

Abstract

BSTRACT

This study examines Andalusian poetry during the era of the Amirid
Dynasty, a period marked by the emergence of prominent poets who
preserved the essence of this beautiful art and passed its artistic value down
to subsequent generations. Despite the crises faced during this era, it
represented a revolutionary departure from convention, introducing
innovations in meters, poetic rules, vocabulary, language and its
connotations, as well as the diversity of poetic themes—while maintaining
a strong pride in their heritage, which they safeguarded from decline. The
country experienced upheaval and deterioration during this period, with
emerging power centers vying for influence and attempting to eliminate the
Caliph’s authority. However, after assuming the caliphate, Mansur al-Amiri
gradually consolidated power and eliminated his rivals, paving the way for
his exclusive rule. The Muslim Caliph Hisham became the de facto ruler,
adopting royal titles such as “The Victorious” and “The Generous King.”
The poetry of this era reflected a clear influence of the natural and social
environment, which was evident in the language and stylistic features
employed.

Abstract

ABSTRACT

Poets employ various techniques in crafting their literary works. Marginalized poets, in particular, resorted to the strategy of the \"unspoken\" within the implicit structure of the literary text, driven by fear of the oppressive power of rulers and authorities. It thus became necessary for them to adopt this approach in their poetic compositions, entrusting the reader with the task of uncovering the deeper layers of the text, probing its content, and discerning its hidden meanings. This study examines the concept of the \"unspoken\" in the works of marginalized poets, beginning with a definition of the term and an exploration of its manifestations—particularly in the political and social domains. The poets utilized the \"unspoken\" as a vehicle to express their political views and the ensuing economic repercussions that shaped the social conditions of the people. As such, the unspoken became one of the most vital strategies employed by these poets in their poetry.

يعتمد الشّعراء في نسج منجزاتهم الأدبيّة أساليب عدّة، وقد لجأ الشعراء المهمشون إلى أسلوب المسكوت عنه في النسق المضمر للنّصّ الأدبيّ، وذلك خوفاً من بطش السّلطة والحكّام، فكان من الضّروري أن يتّبعوا هذا الأسلوب في قصائدهم الشّعريّة، تاركين للمخاطَب مهمّة استكشاف أغوار النّصّ الأدبيّ، وسبر مضامينه، والوقوف على معانيه الخفيّة، وقد درس هذا البحث المسكوت عنه عند الشّعراء المهمّشون، فكان لا بدّ من التّعريف بالمسكوت عنه، وبيان بعض المجالات التي برز بها، والتي منها: المسكوت عنه السّياسي، والمسكوت عنه الاجتماعي، فقد اتخذ الشّعراء من المسكوت عنه وسيلة لبثّ آرائهم السّياسية وتداعياتها الاقتصادية التي أثرت على الحالة الاجتماعيّة للشّعب، فكان المسكوت عنه أهمّ الأساليب التي اعتمدها الشّعراء في شعرهم

This study aims to explore the psychological dimension underlying the dichotomy of presence and absence in the poetry collection The Afflicted Among the Mad and the Obsessed during the Abbasid era. It seeks to analyze selected texts representing poets known for their intense psychological experiences and to uncover the manifestations of this dichotomy within their poetic discourse. The study also investigates the psychological significance of this duality as a reflection of internal conflicts related to the self and the world, or the conscious and unconscious mind. Furthermore, it examines the relationship between this dichotomy and psychological disorders such as anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, and schizophrenia. It also highlights how this dichotomy was employed as an expressive tool to convey the poet\\'s suffering and fragmentation between the desire for exposure and the desire for concealment. تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى استكشاف البعد النفسي الكامن وراء ثنائية الحضور والغياب في ديوان المصابين من المجانين والموسوسين في العصر العباسي، وذلك من خلال تحليل نصوص مختارة تمثل هذه الفئة من الشعراء الذين عُرفوا بتجاربهم النفسية الحادة، والكشف عن تمثلات هذه الثنائية في خطابهم الشعري، و تحليل البعد النفسي لها بعدَّها انعكاسًا لصراعات داخلية تتعلق بالذات والعالم، أو بالوعي واللاوعي ، فضلًا عن بيان العلاقة بين هذه الثنائية والاضطرابات النفسية مثل القلق، الوسواس القهري، الاكتئاب، والانفصام، وتسليط الضوء على كيفية توظيف هذه الثنائية كأداة تعبيرية عن معاناة الشاعر وتشتته بين الرغبة في الانكشاف والرغبة في التواري، وكذلك تجلي الربط بين السياق النفسي والوظيفة الفنية لهذه الثنائية في تشكيل البنية الرمزية للنصوص..

Abstract

Sayyiduk Al-Wasiti: His Life and the Surviving Remnants of His Poetry

ABSTRACT

This study examines a poet from the Abbasid era—Sayyiduk al-Wasiti, one of the poets of the city of Wasit. The research aims to introduce this poet and highlight his status among the poets of his time. It also endeavors to collect the remnants of his poetry as cited in literary, linguistic, and biographical sources, given that his original poetry collection (diwan) is lost and no manuscript has been found or preserved. Thus, the possibility remains open for further additions to the collected poems.
The researcher’s primary objective is to shed light on a fourth-century Hijri poet who gained renown in the city of Wasit and held a significant literary and scholarly position. The study is divided into two main sections: the first addresses his life, death, intellectual background, poetic status, and the themes of his poetry; the second is dedicated to compiling the surviving verses attributed to him. The study concludes with a summary of key findings and a list of references and sources.

وغاية الباحثة الوقوف وتسليط الضوء على شاعر من شعراء القرن الرابع الهجري اشتهر في مدينة واسط وله مكانته الأدبية والعلمية ، وقد قسم البحث على قسمين كان القسم الأول يختص بحياته ووفاته وثقافته ومكانته الشعرية وموضوعات شعره ،أما القسم الآخر فكان خاصا بجمع شعر هذا الشاعر، وختم البحث بخاتمة لأهم النتائج، وقائمة بالمصادر والمراجع

Abstract

This study of paradox in selected examples of Al-Mutalammis Al-Dab'i's poetry attempts to clarify the poet's position in addressing the forms of paradox that enrich the poetic text, whether through the connotations conveyed by the recipient or through explicit expressions. This approach utilizes interpretation to arrive at the poet's intended or implied goal. Paradoxes take many forms, including political, social, psychological, and existential paradoxes. Therefore, the study adopts an analytical approach to uncover these paradoxes through their apparent and hidden contradictions.

تُعد دراسة المفارقة في نماذج مختارة من شعر المتلمِّس الضُّبعي محاولة لبيان موقف الشاعر في تناول صور المفارقة التي تثري النص الشعري سواء من خلال الدلالات التي يتوصل إليها المتلقي، أو من خلال الألفاظ الواضحة مستعينا بالتأويل وصولا إلى غاية النص التي يقصدها أو يشير إليها الشاعر، وقد تعددت صور المفارقة بين مفارقات سياسية ومفارقات اجتماعية ومفارقات نفسية وأخرى وجودية ؛ لذا فأن الدراسة تميل إلى المنهج التحليلي من أجل الوصول إلى تلك المفارقات عبر تناقضاتها الظاهرة والمخفية الكامنة.

Abstract

This study examines and analyzes the term "removal" and its morphological derivatives in the Qur’an, including words such as zāla (زال), māzāla (مازال), azāla (أزال), zalla (زل), yuzīlu (يزيل), istazalla (استزل), zayyala (زيل), and zalzala (زلزل). These terms are treated as a central semantic unit in the Qur’anic depiction of concepts such as disappearance, motion, transition, transformation, and disturbance. The research begins with the lexical and semantic foundation of the root (Z-W-L) to trace the evolution of meanings from concrete, physical senses to more abstract, figurative ones. It then follows the Qur’anic contexts in which these words occur, analyzing their semantic dimensions and diverse contextual usages. The study clarifies the subtle distinctions among these terms—such as between removal and displacement, or disappearance and movement, and between zāla and azāla. Furthermore, it highlights the relationship between linguistic meaning and Qur’anic context, which often bestows existential depth and profound significance to these terms. The research employs linguistic, analytical, and exegetical methodologies, showing how these terms form a cohesive and interconnected semantic network that conveys notions of destabilization, transformation—whether gradual or sudden, physical or metaphorical. يتناول هذا العملُ بالدراسةِ والتحليلِ لفظَ الإزالةِ واشتقاقاتِهِ الصرفيّة في القرآنِ الكريم، فمن هذه الألفاظِ: (زال، مازال، أزال، زلّ، يزيل، استزلّ، زيل، زلزل...). بعدّها وحدةً دلاليّة محوريّةً في التصويرِ القرآنيّ لمفاهيم الذهاب والحركة والتنقّل والتَحَوُّل والاضطراب، وينطلق البحث من الأساس المعجمي والدلالي للجذر (زول) للكشف عن تطوّر الدلالات من الأصل الحسيّ إلى المعاني المجازيّة، ومن ثم يتتبّع السياقات القرآنيّة التي وردت فيها تلك الألفاظ، محللاً أبعادها المعنويّة واستعمالاتها السياقيّة المتعدّدة. ويبيّن هذا العمل الفروق الدقيقة بين تلك الألفاظ، مثل الفرق بين (الإزالة والتنحية) و(الزوال والانتقال)، و(زال وأزال)، وكذلك يبرز العلاقة بين الدلالة اللغويّة والسياق القرآني الذي يعطيها بعداً وجوديًّا ومعان عميقة. وقد اعتمد البحث على مناهج لغويّة وتحليليّة وتفسيريّة، وهكذا ترسم تلك الألفاظ شبكةً دلاليّةً متماسكةً ومترابطةً تعبّر عن زعزعة الثبات والتغيّر، والتَحَوُّل التدريجيّ أو المفاجئ، الماديّ أو المعنويّ، مما يضيف إلى بيان النص القرآنيّ ثباته البلاغيّ ودقته المفهوميّة.

Abstract

We can say that some of the phenomena observed by previous scholars possess vitality and an effective influence in evaluating our modern linguistic thought, especially if we take into consideration the practical value of such phenomena or rules. Among these rules is what the scholar Ibn Jinni (d. 392 AH) pointed out regarding the ability of the Arabic language to deal phonetically and morphologically with Arabic and foreign words, and he called it (manipulation).
Scholars have explained the manipulation of the Arabic language's transformative capabilities in dealing with some words phonetically and morphologically, and most of their explanation is the frequent use of these words to the point where confusion and error are impossible.
The true value of this rule lies in the fact that it gives us the ability to deal with foreign names in a wide range of phonetic and morphological changes, which allows language academies the ability to translate foreign names with complete freedom.

يمكننا القول: إنّ بعض الظواهر التي رصدها العلماء السابقين تمتلك حيوية وفاعلية مؤثرة في تقويم فكرنا اللغويّ الحديث، ولا سيّما إذا نظرنا إلى القيمة العملية لمثل هذه الظواهر، أو القواعد، ومن هذه القواعد ما أشار إليه العلّامة ابن جنّي (ت ٣٩٢ هـ) من قدرة اللغة العربية على التعامل الصوتيّ والصرفيّ مع الألفاظ العربية، والأعجمية، وأطلق عليها (التلعّب)، وقد فسّر العلماء التلعّب بالقدرات التغييرية التي تمتلكها اللغة العربية في التعامل الصوتيّ والصرفيّ مع بعض الألفاظ، وأغلب تعليل هذه الظاهرة عندهم في كثرة استعمال تلك الألفاظ لدرجة لا يمكن معها الخلط، والخطأ. إنّ القيمة الحقيقية لهذه القاعدة في كونها تمنحنا القدرة على التعامل مع الأعلام الأجنبية في مساحة واسعة من التغيير الصوتيّ والصرفيّ، وهو ما يسمح للمجامع اللغوية القدرة على ترجمة الأعلام الأعجمية بحرّية تامة.

Abstract

constitute a fundamental axis around which the spiritual states (*ahwāl*) and stations (*maqāmāt*) of Sufis revolve. They are the pivotal center of their rituals and devotions, serving as both the primary impetus for these practices and the ultimate aspiration sought by the Sufi. The celestial bodies—the sun, moon, and stars—along with lightning and the radiance of the heavens, represent the most significant forms of the Divine Essence’s manifestations, embodying splendor, light, brilliance, elevation, luminosity, and transcendence, as well as awe and illumination.
The poetic works *Tarjumān al-Ashwāq* (*The Interpreter of Desires*) and *Dhakhā’ir al-A‘lāq* (*Treasures of Precious Love*) by Ibn ‘Arabī abound with poetic testimonies to these manifestations, reflecting the Sufi’s religious and epistemological philosophy while portraying the state of the Sufi lover in his yearning for the Sacred Divine. Metaphors, similes, and symbols abound—light becomes a metaphor for divine emanation, the sun a manifestation of Truth, interwoven with other Sufi symbols, collectively shaping artistic poetic texts.
From an analysis of the concept of Sufi Manifestation (*Tajallī*) in the aforementioned texts, several conclusions can be drawn:

Abstract

This study investigates the lexical-syntactic relationships in Al-Muqtasid fi Sharh al-Idah by Al-Jurjani، aiming to uncover the philosophical dimension in his view of linguistic structures as instruments for constructing meaning. Al-Jurjani adopted an approach founded on the centrality of meaning، which positioned him as a forerunner in employing semantic intuition—an aspect later emphasized by modern linguistics. The research is structured around two main axes: the first examines a set of issues addressed by Al-Jurjani to reveal the lexical-syntactic relationship through syntactic structure، in order to reach a functional interaction based on a balanced system، wherein the structure adapts according to the layering and coherence of linguistic elements، thereby falling within the scope of correctness or otherwise. The second axis addresses other issues to uncover the lexical-syntactic relationship through grammatical inflection (iʿrāb)، demonstrating that it represents semantic relations within the sentence rather than being mere formal markers، and that the grammatical agent (ʿāmil) is subordinate to context and meaning، not an independent governing entity.

يقومُ هذا البحث على دراسة العلاقة الإفراديّة التّركيبيّة في المقتصد في شرح الإيضاح للجرجانيّ؛ للكشف عن البعد الفلسفيّ في النّظر إلى تراكيب اللّغة؛ لكونها أداة بناء للمعنى، وكان ذلك عندَ الجرجانيّ لأنّه مارسَ فيه رأيًا ينهضُ على مركزيةِ المعنى ما جعله سابقًا في توظيف الحسّ الدّلالي الّذي تنبّهت إليه اللّسانيات الحديثة، وقد جعلته على محورينِ: وقفتُ في أحدِهما على مجموعةٍ من المسائل الّتي عالجها الجرجانيُّ للكشفِ عن العلاقةِ الإفراديّةِ التّركيبيّة بالبناء النّحويّ؛ للوصول إلى التّفاعل الوظيفيّ الّذي يقوم على النّظام التّوازني ليتكيّف التّركيب بحسب تراكب المعطيات وتناسقها؛ ليكون في دائرة الصّحة، أو عدمها، ووقفت في الآخر على مسائلَ أخرى للكشفِ عن العلاقةِ الإفراديّةِ التّركيبيّة بالإعرابِ؛ للوصولِ إلى أنّه تمثيلٌ للعلاقات المعنويّة داخل الجملة، لا مجرّد علامات، والعامل النّحوي تابع للسّياق والدّلالة، لا حاكم مستقلّ بذاته.

Abstract

This study explores contemporary theatrical criticism in Iraq, focusing on its intellectual and aesthetic directions, as well as the epistemological sources that have shaped its theoretical and practical foundations. The research aims to analyze the cultural and historical contexts that have contributed to the development of theatrical critical discourse, with a particular emphasis on the major transformations this criticism has undergone from the late twentieth century to the present day. The study is based on the hypothesis that theatrical criticism in Iraq has not been isolated from the political, social, and cultural developments the country has experienced. Rather, it has interacted with these changes and moved beyond traditional frameworks to adopt a more analytical and aesthetic depth. The research also highlights the various directions of criticism, ranging from academic criticism grounded in Western theories, to journalistic criticism linked to daily events and live performances, in addition to cultural criticism, which has begun to gain prominence in recent years.The research aims to present an analytical perspective on the structure of theatrical criticism in Iraq, identifying its most prominent figures, institutions, and methodological tools. It also addresses the challenges facing this field, such as the lack of institutional support, weak archiving practices, and the scarcity of specialized platforms.

يتناول هذا البحث دراسة النقد المسرحي المعاصر في العراق من حيث اتجاهاته الفكرية والجمالية، ومصادره المعرفية التي شكلت مرجعيته النظرية والتطبيقية. يسعى البحث إلى تحليل السياقات الثقافية والتاريخية التي أسهمت في تطور الخطاب النقدي المسرحي، مع التركيز على أبرز التحولات التي شهدها هذا النقد منذ نهاية القرن العشرين وحتى اليوم.
ينطلق البحث من فرضية أن النقد المسرحي في العراق لم يكن معزولًا عن التطورات السياسية والاجتماعية والثقافية التي مرت بها البلاد، بل تفاعل معها وتجاوز الإطار التقليدي ليأخذ منحى تحليليًا وجماليًا أكثر عمقًا. كما يسلط الضوء على اتجاهات النقد التي تنوعت بين النقد الأكاديمي المؤسس على النظريات الغربية، والنقد الصحفي الذي يرتبط بالمتغيرات اليومية والعروض المباشرة، فضلا عن النقد الثقافي الذي بدأ يكتسب حضورًا في السنوات الأخيرة.

Abstract

The morphological aspect constitutes a significant portion of the book “Insights into the Mistakes of Writers” by Sheikh Mohammed Ja'far Al-Karbassi (1927–2016), one of the prominent modern linguists whose reputation rose during the last two decades of the 20th century. Morphological corrections in the book account for approximately one-third of the content, with over 400 corrected lexical items out of a total of 1,077 analyzed entries—an amount comparable to the syntactic level, which also represents a third of the work. Unlike the syntactic and semantic levels, the morphological dimension has not received substantial attention or in-depth analysis, aside from scattered references across various studies, theses, and dissertations that have not done it justice. Therefore, this study seeks to investigate the morphological corrections presented in the book, aiming to classify them, identify their grammatical categories, examine the methods of correction employed, assess their alignment or deviation from traditional and modern linguistic views, and analyze the justifications provided for each correction.

Abstract

يشكل الجانب الصرفي جزءًا كبيرًا من كتاب "نظرات في أخطاء المنشئين" للشيخ محمد جعفر الكرباسي (1927- 2016م) وهو من اللغويين المحدثين وذاع صيته في العقدين الأخيرين من القرن الماضي، وتبلغ تصويباته الصرفية في الكتاب الثلث بواقع أكثر من (400) لفظة من مجموع الألفاظ المعالَجة في الكتاب وهي (1077) لفظة مفردة، حيث يضاهي المستوى النحوي الذي يمثل ثلث الكتاب أيضًا. ومثل المستويات النحوية والدلالية لم يحظ المستوى الصرفي في هذا الكتاب بالعناية والدراسة المعمقة سوى ذكر شذرات منه هنا وهناك في بحوث ورسائل وأطاريح متفرقة لم توفها حقه، لذلك يحاول هذا البحث تقصي التصويبات الصرفية من الكتاب سعيًا لتصنيفيها ومعرفة أبوابها وكيفية معالجتها ومدى موافقتها لآراء المحدثين والقدامى السائدة أو مخالفتها لها والحجج التي أوردها لكل تصويب.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the manifestations of identity in the poetry of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Waeli. Identity is considered one of the most significant issues in cultural studies, as it represents the “self,” which is the maker of civilization and the driving force of history. Identity finds its most vivid and evident expression in poetry, since poetry is an authentic personal expression of the poet’s feelings, translated through his words and style into a poetic form that embodies moral, humanistic, doctrinal, national, and cultural values, traditions, and customs to which the poet belongs and simultaneously advocates. All of these elements collectively represent the poet’s identity. Hence, poetry plays a major and decisive role in shaping identity. Accordingly, this study seeks to uncover the identity of the poet Al-Waeli by tracing its manifestations throughout his poetic works.

يهدف البحث إلى الكشف عن: (تجليات الهوية في شعر الشيخ أحمد الوائلي) . فإذا كانت الهُويَّة من أهم القضايا في الدراسات الثقافيَّة، كونها تعني (الذات) والذات هي صانعة الحضارة ومُحرِّكة عجلات التأريخ. فإنها - أي الهُويَّة - أوضح وأظهر ما تكون في الشعر، لأن الشعر تعبير ذاتي صادق عن احساس الشاعر، يترجمه خلال كلماته وأسلوبه: ويصبَّه في قالب شعري، يضمّ في جنباته، قيماً اخلاقية، وإنسانية وعقدية ووطنية، وقومية ، وعادات، وتقاليد ... إلخ. ينتمي إليها الشاعر، وبالوقت نفسه يدعو إليها. ومجموع ما تقدَّم يمثِّل هُويّة هذا الشاعر أو ذاك، ومن هنا كان للشعر دور كبير وحاسم في بناء الهُويَّة. لذا يحاول البحث أن يكشف النقاب عن هوية الشاعر/ الوائلي من خلال تتبّع شعره.

Abstract

This study aims to demonstrate and explore the presence of the poetic ego and its interactions with the other social system. It seeks to delve into how this ego is formed and influenced by the social structure to which it belongs. The focus is on highlighting the interacting connotations between the poet's self—with all the hopes, pains, and aspirations it carries Individuality - and between the society that represents the other, especially the surrounding society, as the research depends on a deep analysis of the poetic textual structure in the poetry of lovers, not only as a means of self-expression, but as a tool to explore the extent of compatibility or conflict between individual desire and social standards, as the poet’s use of the opposite duality is not limited It does not only highlight the contradictions of subjectivity, but also goes beyond that to reveal the contrast between what lies within the poet’s soul and what is imposed by the reality surrounding him.

Abstract

Kurdistan (as mentioned in Sharafnama on the History of Kurdish States and Emirates, 1953, p. 12) has given birth to numerous scholars—men of knowledge, literature, and culture—throughout the ages. History bears witness to their vast knowledge and relentless efforts in preserving science, literature, the Arabic language, and religion. Each of these individuals played an important role and marked a significant presence in the field of knowledge, particularly in literary life. The language of the Holy Qur'an had a profound impact on their mastery of the Arabic language, including grammar, morphology, rhetoric, and more. One of the essential requirements for any scholar before interpreting or engaging in Islamic jurisprudence was to have a strong command of the Arabic language.
Based on this principle, Kurdish intellectuals left a clear mark through their writings, ideas, literary, intellectual, historical, and religious visions. Kurdish scholars made significant contributions to the building of Islamic civilization, as their literary works greatly influenced students of knowledge, who studied their writings as curricula taught in the schools of Baghdad and other Islamic cities and regions. Thus, the prominence of Kurdish scholars rose during the Islamic eras, especially in the Abbasid period.
In this study, we aim to shed light on the contributions of Kurdish scholars to literary life during the Abbasid era. Accordingly, our research is divided into three sections: the first begins with an introduction highlighting the importance of the study. Then, the first chapter discusses the general conditions of the Kurds during the Abbasid era. The second chapter addresses the motivating and influential factors behind the development of the literary life of Kurdish scholars during that time. The third chapter focuses on the specific contributions of Kurdish scholars to literary life in the Abbasid era. Finally, we conclude with a summary of the study’s findings, based on a range of key sources that formed the backbone of this research.

أنجب الكورد (الشرفنامة في تاريخ الدول والإمارات الكردية، 1953م، صفحة 12) العديد من العلماء من رجال الدين والفقه والعلم والمعرفة والأدب على مر العصور ويشهد لهم التاريخ في علمهم الوافر وسعيهم الحثيث في الحفاظ على العلم والأدب واللغة العربية والدين وكان لكل شخص منهم دور مهم وعلامة فارقة في مجال العلم ولاسيما الحياة الأديبة لاسيما وإن لغة القرآن الكريم كان لها أثر كبير في إتقان اللغة العربية والصرف والنحو والبلاغة..الخ فكان أحد الشروط المهمة للعالم قبل أن يفسر أو يخوض في مجالات الشريعة الإسلامية أن يكون متقنا للغة العربية.
وانطلاقاً من ذلك المبدأ ترك لنا العلماء الكرد بصمة واضحة من خلال مؤلفاتهم وأفكارهم ورؤاهم الأديبة والفكرية وكذلك التاريخية والدينية، فكان لنتاجاتهم الأديبة أثر كبير في إقبال الباحثين على دراسة مؤلفاتهم.

John Capel Breckenridge, one of the most prominent American figures of the 19th century, was born in 1821 in Kentucky, and, unlike his family's partisan approach, he joined the Democratic Party. His work was limited to protecting Mexico City from looting and chaos; During the war, he grew in popularity for his humanitarian and legal actions among soldier officers, by leading his soldiers back and forth to and from Mexico, and by suffering severe climatic conditions along with diseases and epidemics; He exploited the popularity and reputation he gained after the war and succeeded in reaching a seat in Kentucky's legislature for the Democratic Party.

The research is considered a critical historical study using the method of comparison and deduction, and the subject of the study revolves around the personality of one of the Mamluk sultans, Sultan Al-Nasir bin Sultan Al-Mansur Qalawun, whose reign is considered one of the most important periods in the history of the Mamluks, as he ascended the throne three times and important events took place, including internal and external political events, in addition to economic and social events, by criticizing and analyzing the historical texts contained in the works of two historians who were contemporaries of the Sultan, and the texts in both works almost differed according to the neutrality of each of them and their commitment to the conditions of the honest historian who is far from his whims and worldly interests, and by comparing with the rest of the historical sources that proved the truth of the contradictory personality of Sultan Al-Nasir.

The Arab and African Dimension in Libyan-Tunisian Relations 1954-1974: A Historical Study

Abstract

The study sheds light on relations between Libya and Tunisia during the period 1954-1974, the subsequent African dimensions, the political and social changes experienced by the two countries, and the challenges imposed by these changes that shaped the course of Arab and Arab-African relations. This study examines key events, most notably the outbreak of the Algerian Revolution against French policy in 1954, which led to a rapprochement between the two countries. Libya was among the first Arab countries to support this revolution, taking advantage of the shared border between the two countries. National affiliation and fraternal ties between the two countries also dictated joint action on common Arab issues, both within the Arab and African dimensions. Libya's stance on racist policies was reflected in its actions, including its refusal to recognize and engage with this policy. Through its foreign policy, it supported any proposal that opposed apartheid. Tunisia's stance on the apartheid policy pursued by the South African government was also highlighted by its severing of political and economic ties. It supported all resolutions condemning this regime and committed to implementing them.

كما فرض الانتماء القومي والارتباط الأخوي بين البلدين العمل المشترك تجاه القضايا العربية المشتركة فيما بينهما وعلى صعيد البعدين العربي والإفريقي كما جاء الموقف الليبي من السياسات العنصرية بما قامت به من اجراءات من خلال عدم الاعتراف وعدم التعامل مع هذه السياسة كما أيدت من خلال سياستها الخارجية "تأييد أي طرح يناهض سياسة الفصل العنصري كما جاء الموقف التونسي من سياسة التمييز العنصري التي اتبعتها حكومة جنوب إفريقيا من خلال قطع علاقاتها السياسية والاقتصادية ، إذ أيدت جميع القرارات التي ادانت هذا النظام والتزمت بتطبيقها .

This research explores the life and legacy of Uways al-Qarani al-Muradi (may Allah be pleased with him), a unique ascetic figure in Islamic history and one of the most revered among the Tabi‘un. Though he never met the Prophet Muhammadﷺ, he was praised by him in authentic traditions, making Uways a symbol of deep spiritual insight and inner purity. The study examines his lineage, upbringing in Yemen, personal virtues, and his position within Islamic mysticism and the early generations of Islam. It also analyzes his relationship with Imam Ali ibnAbiTalib (peace be upon him), his role in the Battle of Siffin, and his martyrdom. Furthermore, the paper acknowledges his spiritual legacy in Sufi literature and highlights his status as a paragon of hidden sainthood and inward righteousness. Abstract

Muslim women have been the focus of attention for many Orientalists, with differing opinions on this topic, particularly regarding women's roles and activities during the Abbasid era, which represented the pinnacle of Islamic civilization. This study aims to address the contradictions raised by Orientalists regarding Muslim women, while seeking to explain the reasons for Muslim historians' interest in documenting women's lives—an aspect often overlooked by Western researchers, particularly in political and spiritual contexts. Furthermore, the study seeks to compare the status of women in Islamic society with that of medieval European society, shedding light on the image and status of women in the Middle Ages. Hence, this study compares the activities of Muslim women with those of medieval European women, the home of Orientalists. Despite the restrictions imposed on women by Islamic society, they emerged during the Abbasid era as a force that competed with men for power. Furthermore, their spiritual influence as Sufis and ascetics was admired and praised by authors. On the other hand, women's activity in society has aroused the interest of authors in writing about them in separate works devoted to that purpose, as will become clear through the pages of this research.

شكلت المرأة المسلمة محور اهتمام بارز لدى عدد كبير من المستشرقين، إذ تباينت آراؤهم بشأنها من مستشرق إلى آخر ، بخاصة ما تعلق بدورها ونشاطها خلال العصر العباسي الذي يُعد مرحلة مثلت ذروة نشاط الحضارة الإسلامية . وتهدف هذه الدراسة إلى معالجة التناقضات التي أوردها المستشرقون عن النساء المسلمات، وتسعى في الوقت نفسه إلى تفسير أسباب اهتمام المؤرخين المسلمين بتدوين أخبار النساء، وهو جانب كثيرًا ما تجاهله الباحثون الغربيون ، خصوصًا في المجالات السياسية والروحية. كما تسعى هذه الدراسة إلى مقارنة وضع المرأة في المجتمع الإسلامي ونظيره الأوروبي خلال العصور الوسطى، بهدف استجلاء صورة المرأة ومكانتها في العصور الوسطى

Fuel generating stations are considered one of the most important and vital facilities in Duhok District, the most important of them have been increasing at the present time as a result of the increase in population and urbanization within the geographical functions in Duhok, and consequently to the economic level that increases the percentage of vehicle ownership, they are also still continuing and economically directly on the volume of consumption of petroleum products, which necessarily participates in providing fuel stations, as there is a study to reveal the geographical distribution of fuel vehicle exploration stations within borders of Duhok District, and the extent to which this distribution is related to demographic changes, transportation networks and traffic that occur through their paths, in addition to analyzing the natural and human factors in determining the locations of their establishment and spread within the administrative borders of the study .

Abstract

The Lebanese National Pact of 1943 played a pivotal and fundamental role in consolidating sectarianism in Lebanon. Despite being an unwritten pact, it established the principle of partisan quotas based on religious and ethnic sectarian principles for power-sharing. It was agreed that the presidency would be for Christians, the prime minister ship for Sunni Muslims, and the presidency for Parliament for Shiite Muslims. This agreement was reached between Lebanese leaders representing the sects, especially Bechara El Khoury, a Christian, and Riad El Solh, a Muslim. However, it did not resolve the problem; rather, it deepened sectarian divisions and fueled an atmosphere of rivalry and competition between the sects over the gains and spoils that they considered their legitimate right. Over time, the The feeling of marginalization among the poor and small sects, coupled with the absence of necessary political and social reforms, increased sectarian tension in the country. This fragile sectarian class structure, along with the external support it received from regional and international sources, had a significant impact on the outbreak of civil war on April 13, 1975. The sects transformed into militias. Armed groups engaged in a war, which confirmed the fragility of the political system in Lebanon, which was a product of the National Pact of 1943.

Abstract

كان للميثاق الوطني اللبناني الذي صدر عام 1943 ، أثر محوري وأساس في ترسيخ الطائفية في لبنان، على الرغم من أنه كان ميثاقاً غير مكتوب، فقد كرّس مبدأ المحاصصة الحزبية على أسس دينية، وعرقية، بين الطوائف وحثها على تقاسم السلطة، إذ تم الاتفاق على أن تكون رئاسة الجمهورية للمسيحيين، ورئاسة الوزراء للمسلمين السنة، و رئاسة مجلس النواب للمسلمين الشيعة ، وتضمن تقسيمات أخرى، مثل رئيس الأركان العامة للجيش من الدروز، وتخلي المسلمين عن مطمح الوحدة مع سوريا، وقبول الموارنة الهوية العربية بدلا من الهوية الغربية . وهذا الاتفاق تم بين الزعماء اللبنانيين من ممثلي الطوائف وخاصة بشارة الخوري المسيحي ورياض الصلح المسلم، لكنه لم يحل المشكلة ، بل عمّق الانقسامات الطائفية وأشعل جواً من التناحر والتنافس بين الطوائف على المكاسب والمغانم التي عدوها حقا مشروعا لهم . ومع مرور الوقت، زاد الشعور بالتهميش لدى الطبقات الفقيرة والطوائف الصغيرة ، ومع غياب الإصلاحات السياسية والاجتماعية الضرورية، زاد الاحتقان الطائفي في البلاد. فكان لتلك البنية الطائفية الطبقية الهشة وما تتلقاه من دعم خارجي إقليمي ودولي، أثر كبير في اندلاع الحرب الأهلية في 13 نيسان 1975، فتحولت الطوائف إلى ميليشيات مسلحة دارت رحى الحرب فيما بينها، وكان ذلك دليل على هشاشة النظام السياسي في لبنان الذي كان نتاج الميثاق الوطني لعام 1943.

There are many international agreements to protect it, and controls and guiding standards have been established for it to identify and distinguish it from other less famous trademarks. The famous trademark has been exposed to piracy operations by naming a number of websites with electronic addresses similar to famous trademarks, which requires providing international and national protection to protect it in the event that it is used on similar or dissimilar products.

Abstract

The adoption of integrated marketing communications in the housing sector is not a luxury option or a temporary tactic. Rather, it has become a necessity imposed by market variables and contemporary consumer behavior, based on the dynamic needs and desires of consumers. The field research community represents the beneficiaries of the same residential complexes in Baghdad, on both sides of Karkh and Rusafa. Therefore, the researcher chose a "purposeful" sample, a type of non-probability sample. The researcher surveyed the beneficiary audience of the same complexes, which numbered four: Al-Atifiya, Al-Wafi, and Al-Atifiya. The Palm Tree and Al-Hadel were used to obtain data from the beneficiary individuals, numbering (400) individuals, to measure the extent to which the components of integrated marketing communications were reflected in their purchasing behavior, for the period from 1/1/2025 to 15/4/2025, to distribute, transcribe and analyze the forms. The results of the study revealed that the respondents’ evaluation indicators of the integrated marketing communications carried out by the companies implementing the residential complexes recorded the highest percentage (96.1%), which confirms that the advertising messages were able to attract the attention of the public and influence them. Meanwhile, the results revealed the reflection of the integrated marketing communications adopted by the companies implementing the residential complexes on purchasing behavior, as it recorded the highest percentage of (94.5%). We conclude that there is a high degree of interaction and influence as a result of the beneficiary’s evaluation of the residential complexes by sending advertisements to his friends and relatives. One of the most important recommendations for companies is to use modern promotional methods and integrate them in an integrated manner, relying on integrated marketing communications.

إن اعتماد الاتصالات التسويقية المتكاملة في قطاع الإسكان لا يُعد خيارا ترفيهيا أو تكتيكا مؤقتا بل أصبح ضرورة تفرضها متغيرات السوق وسلوك المستهلك المعاصر، بناءً على احتياجات ورغبات المستهلك الديناميكية، إذ يمثل مجتمع البحث الميداني المستفيدين من المجمعات السكنية ذاتها في مدينة بغداد على جانبيها الكرخ والرصافة ، لذلك اختارت الباحثة العينة " العمدية " وهي أحد أنواع العينات غير الاحتمالية؛ عمدت الباحثة الى مسح الجمهور المستفيد من المجمعات ذاتها وكان عددها أربعة مجمعات: (العطيفية، والوافي، والنخلة، والهادي)؛ للحصول على البيانات من الأفراد المستفيدين وعددهم ( 400) مفردة ، إذ تمثلت لقياس مدى انعكاس مكونات الاتصالات التسويقية المتكاملة على سلوكهم الشرائي ، للمدة من 1/1/2025 لغاية 15/4/2025، لتوزيع الاستمارات وتفريغها وتحليلها ، وكشفت نتائج الدراسة أن مؤشرات تقييم المبحوثين للاتصالات التسويقية المتكاملة التي تقوم بها الشركات المنفذة للمجمعات السكنية سجلت أعلى نسبة (96.1%)، ما يؤكد أن الرسائل الإعلانية كانت قادرة على جذب انتباه الجمهور والتأثير فيهم ، بينما كشفت نتائج انعكاس الاتصالات التسويقية المتكاملة التي اعتمدتها الشركات المنفذة للمجمعات السكنية على السلوك الشرائي؛ إذ سجلت أعلى نسبية بلغت ( 94.5% ) ،نستنتج ان هناك درجة عالية من التفاعل والتأثير نتيجة تقييم المستفيد للمجمعات السكنية بارسال الإعلانات الى أصدقائه واقربائه ، ومن أهم التوصيات على الشركات استخدام الأساليب الترويجية الحديثة ودمجها بشكل تكاملي بالاعتماد على الاتصالات التسويقية المتكاملة.

Objective: The primary objective of the research is to understand the role of artificial intelligence technologies in news editing across digital media.
Methodology: The research is descriptive, and its approach relies on a survey method, which enables the researcher to identify the elements that comprise the research topic by collecting data and information from the respondents.
Research community and sample: The research community comprises the news agencies: Al-Maalouma Agency, the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Ghad Press Agency, and Baghdad Today News Agency. أداة البحث: تم استخدام أداة الاستبانة (الاستمارة البحثية)، لدراسة ومعالجة بيانات المبحوثين الداخلين ضمن عينة البحث والخروج بالنتائج بالاستنتاجات.
اهم النتائج: كان دور التقنيات المستخدمة في التحرير الإخباري متمثلاً في، الحصول على المعلومات التي تتسم بالدقة والسرعة وتسريع عملية البحث عن المحتوى الإخباري، ثم تحليل البيانات بكيمات كبيرة وضخمة، وكانت أبرز التقنيات المستخدمة في التحرير الإخباري: هي معالجة اللغة العربية، في حين كان مدى اعتماد الصحفيين عليها(متوسطاً)، وأخيرا اكدت النتائج وجود مساهمة لتلك التقنيات في الإسراع من عمليات التحرير والنشر الإخباري، فضلاً عن مدى معرفة الصحفيين في التقنية واستخدامها كان (متوسطاً).

Abstract

The research problem in this research was summarized in the following main question: What is the effectiveness of pink marketing in enhancing the purchasing decision of Iraqi women? The research aimed to determine the impact of pink marketing strategies in enhancing the purchasing decision of Iraqi women, with a focus on the persuasive methods and visual and linguistic elements used in marketing campaigns, and the extent of their compatibility with the preferences and cultural and social characteristics of Iraqi women. The researcher also relied in her study on the descriptive analytical approach (survey method), as it is the most appropriate in studying phenomena related to consumer behavior. The questionnaire tool was used as the main tool for collecting data, due to its ability to reach a wide segment of society within a short period of time, in addition to its suitability for measuring trends and opinions accurately and objectively. The sample was chosen using the intentional sample method, as the questionnaire was designed and distributed to (420) women residents of Baghdad Governorate, both Karkh and Rusafa. After collecting and verifying the forms, (12) forms were excluded for not meeting the scientific conditions. The researcher relied on (408) forms valid for statistical analysis. The researcher reached several conclusions:
1. Pink marketing advertisements have a significant impact on women's choices of cosmetics companies' products, with a percentage of (66.9%) .
2. The most important factor motivating women to purchase cosmetic products is the quality of the products offered by the company, with a percentage of (45.2%).
3. Products offered by global cosmetics companies feature features that meet women's needs and desires, with a percentage of (60.8%).
4. Price is a key factor in women's choice of cosmetic products, with a percentage of (64.7%).
5. The use of colors in advertisements significantly influences women's decision to purchase products, with a percentage of (72.1%)

The research problem lies in the ambiguity surrounding corruption issues in video clips of satirical TV programs on TikTok. Therefore, the research aims to identify corruption issues in video clips of satirical TV programs on TikTok.
The study relied on a field study approach among a young audience, and reached a set of results, the most important of which are the following:
1- The results of the study indicated that the satirical TV programs that address corruption issues in their clips and whose content is followed on TikTok are mostly in favor of the program "Al-Bashir Show," which represents the highest percentage, followed by those who answered "Red Cat," then those who answered "Watermelon State," then those who answered "Sour Sweet," then "With Different Opinions," and finally those who answered "Other Not Mentioned: All of What" (Previously).

Abstract

Robotic journalism in Iraq faces obstacles related to its weak digital infrastructure. The media sector lacks high-speed internet and the modern equipment needed to operate artificial intelligence systems efficiently. Media institutions lack trained personnel to work with modern technologies, which reveals a training gap exacerbated by the absence of specialized academic programs at Iraqi universities. In addition, legislative obstacles exist, as existing laws remain insufficient to regulate the use of artificial intelligence in the media, allowing for the rise of fake news and a lack of transparency. These factors combined affect the quality of automated news production. This is consistent with the theory of gradual innovation, which calls for the gradual adoption of technology while preserving traditional journalistic values and digital transformation. The task remains to achieve a balance between technological innovation and maintaining media independence in an environment of political and economic factors. The dominance of political parties directly reduces the credibility of news, which calls for comprehensive reforms in legislation and infrastructure.

تواجه الصحافة "الروبوتية" في العراق عقبات متعلقة بضعف "بنيتها التحتية" الرقمية، حيث يفتقر قطاع الإعلام إلى الإنترنت عالي السرعة والأجهزة الحديثة اللازمة لتشغيل أنظمة الذكاء الاصطناعي بكفاءة "فالمؤسسات الإعلامية" لا تمتلك كوادر مدربة، للعمل "بالتقنيات الحديثة" الأمر الذي يظهر فجوة تدريبية تفاقمت بسبب غياب البرامج "الأكاديمية" المتخصصة "بالجامعات العراقية"، يضاف إلى ذلك المعيقات التشريعية، إذ تبقى القوانين المعمول بها غير كافية لتنظيم استخدام "الذكاء الاصطناعي" في الإعلام ما يتيح تزايد "الأخبار المزيفة"، وغياب الشفافية، هذه العوامل مجتمعة تؤثر على جودة الأخبار المنتجة آلياً، الأمر الذي يتوافق مع نظرية الابتكار التدريجي التي تدعو إلى تبني التكنولوجيا بشكل تدريجي، مع المحافظة على "القيم الصحفية التقليدية"، مع "التحول الرقمي"، لتبقى المهمة هي: تحقيق التوازن بين "الابتكار التكنولوجي" و"الحفاظ على استقلالية الإعلام" في بيئة العوامل "السياسية" و"الاقتصادية" ، أن هيمنة الأحزاب السياسية تقلل من مصداقية الأخبار بشكل مباشر ما يستدعي إصلاحات شاملة في التشريعات والبنية التحتية.

Abstract

The research entitled (The Level of Iraqi Women’s Interaction with Advertisements on YouTube: A Field Study) seeks to reveal the level and nature of women’s interaction with YouTube advertisements, and to know the reasons that increase women’s skipping or not skipping advertisements. Accordingly, the research problem was formulated with a main question: (What is the level of women’s interaction with YouTube advertisements, and the forms and reasons for that interaction?) To achieve the research objectives, the researcher adopted the survey method using the questionnaire tool, which was distributed electronically to a sample of women who follow YouTube exclusively. The researcher adopted the available sample, which is one of the intentional samples, and amounted to (232) individuals. The research came out with several results, the most important of which are: 94.90% of the sample follow YouTube and share the percentage of alternative follow-ups sometimes and always, and 33.33% of the sample explain the reasons for skipping the advertisement is its sudden appearance that causes them annoyance. Women interact with YouTube advertisements, so 32.43% of them like it, and 21.6% of them They copy and save the ad, and 18.91% follow the ad only.

يسعى البحث الموسوم (مستوى تفاعلية المرأة العراقية مع الإعلانات في موقع اليوتيوب: دراسة ميدانية)الكشف عن مستوى وطبيعة تفاعل المرأة مع إعلانات اليوتيوب، ومعرفة الأسباب التي تزيد من تخطٍّ أو عدم تخطي المرأة للإعلانات، وعليه فقد صيغت مشكلة البحث بتساؤل رئيس:(ما مستوى تفاعل المرأة مع إعلانات موقع اليوتيوب وأشكال ذلك التفاعل وأسبابه؟) ولتحقيق أهداف البحث اعتمدت الباحثة المنهج المسحي مستخدمة أداة الاستبانة ،التي وُزعت بشكل الكتروني على عينة من النساء ممن يتابعن اليوتيوب حصرا، واعتمدت الباحثة العينة المتاحة وهي من العينات العمدية وبلغت(232) مفردة، وخرج البحث بنتائج عدة أهمها: إن 94,90 % من العينة يتابعن موقع اليوتيوب ويتشاطر نسبة المتابعة البديلان أحيانا ودائما، وإن 33.33% من العينة يبين أسباب تخطيهن للإعلان هو ظهورها المفاجئ الذي يسبب الإزعاج لهن ، تتفاعل المرأة مع إعلانات اليوتيوب فتضع إعجاب بنسبة 32.43% منهن وإن 21.6% منهن يعملن نسخ وحفظ للإعلان، و 18.91% يقمن بالمتابعة للإعلان فقط.

The Role of Social Media in Limiting the Spread of Intellectual Extremism Among University Students

Abstract

Intellectual extremism represents one of the most pressing challenges confronting modern societies, as it contributes to the spread of radical ideologies that threaten peaceful coexistence and societal stability. With the growing reliance of young people on social media, these platforms have come to play a dual role. On one hand, they are sometimes exploited to recruit youth and expose them to extremist narratives through inciting content or distorted facts. On the other hand, social media can be a powerful tool for spreading awareness, promoting critical thinking, and reinforcing a culture of dialogue to counter such ideologies.
This study aims to examine the role of social media in reducing the spread of intellectual extremism among university students. It specifically investigates the most frequently used platforms and how students engage with them in confronting extremist content. The research relied on a descriptive survey method and used a questionnaire distributed to a random sample of 100 students (from both morning and evening classes) in the College of Arts at the University of Wasit, out of a total population of 800 students.
Findings revealed a clear relationship between the use of social media and its role in limiting the spread of intellectual extremism among students. Facebook emerged as the most widely used platform, and many students reported engaging with content that promotes awareness and tolerance. Additionally, the study highlighted that unemployment and lack of job opportunities were perceived as major drivers of extremism, with 79% of respondents citing these as contributing factors. Based on these results, the study recommends increasing monitoring efforts by official institutions—particularly security ministries and the Ministry of Communications—to prevent extremist groups from using social media to target and recruit youth. تُعَدُّ ظاهرة التطرف الفكري من أخطر التحديات التي تواجه المجتمعات الحديثة، لكونها أدت إلى نشر الأفكار المتشددة التي تهدد التعايش السلمي وزعزعة استقرار المجتمع، ومع تزايد استخدام الشباب لمواقع التواصل الاجتماعي، أصبح لهذه المنصات دور مزدوج؛ فمن ناحية، تُستخدم أحيانًا كأداة لتجنيد الشباب واستقطابهم نحو الفكر المتطرف، عبر نشر محتويات تحريضية أو تشويه الحقائق، ومن ناحية أخرى، يمكن استثمارها في مواجهة هذه الظاهرة من خلال نشر الوعي وتعزيز ثقافة الحوار.
يهدف هذا البحث إلى التعرف على دور مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي في الحد من انتشار التطرف الفكري، ودراسة أبرز مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي التي يستخدمها طلاب الجامعة، وكيفية توظيفها في الحد من انتشار الظاهرة، فضلاً عن الكشف عن درجة استخدام الطلبة الجامعيين لمواقع التواصل الاجتماعي في مواجهة ظاهرة التطرف الفكري.
اعتمد الباحث على المنهج الوصفي المسحي مستخدمًا أداة الاستبانة على طلاب كلية الآداب بجامعة واسط للدراستين الصباحية والمسائية، بأسلوب العينة العشوائية البسيطة على عينة قوامها (100 طالب وطالبة) من مجموع مجتمع البحث الكلي البالغ (800 طالب وطالبة)، وقد توصل البحث إلى عدة نتائج من أبرزها وجود علاقة بين استخدام مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي ودورها في الحد من انتشار ظاهرة التطرف الفكري لدى طلبة الجامعة. فضلاً عن أن موقع الفيس بوك يُعَدُّ الأكثر استخدامًا لدى طلبة الجامعة، كما أن البطالة وعدم توفر فرص العمل للشباب تُعَدُّ من الأسباب التي تساهم في انتشار ظاهرة التطرف بنسبة بلغت 79 ،0 %.
وقد أوصى الباحث بضرورة تفويت الفرصة على الجماعات المتطرفة التي تستغل مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي لاستقطاب الشباب والطلبة بصفة خاصة، عبر مضاعفة الجهود الأمنية من قبل المؤسسات الحكومية الرسمية، سواء كانت الوزارات الأمنية أو وزارة الاتصالات، لغرض متابعة كل ما يُنشر عبر مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي، لاسيما الأفكار المتطرفة والضالة.

Abstract

The present study aims to examine Attitudinal and Behavioral Openness and
Intellectual Humility among employees in the healthcare sector, as well as to
investigate the correlation between these two variables. The study was conducted on
a sample of 326 employees during the year 2025. To achieve the research objectives,
the researchers utilized the Attitudinal and Behavioral Openness Scale developed by
Caligiuri et al. (2000), consisting of 20 items, and the Intellectual Humility Scale
developed by Ameen (2023), also consisting of 20 items. After verifying the validity
and reliability of both scales, they were administered to the study sample. Data were
analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings
revealed that the participants demonstrated a high level of Attitudinal and
Behavioral Openness and Intellectual Humility. Furthermore, a positive correlation
was found between Attitudinal and Behavioral Openness and Intellectual Humility.
Based on these findings, several recommendations and suggestions were proposed.

Abstract

The current research aims to identify metacognitive awareness of listening and academic hope, as well as identify the correlation between metacognitive awareness of listening and academic hope among university students. The research sample consisted of (212) students from the English Department- College of Education for Humanities- University of Wasit were chosen randomly. To achieve the research aims, the researchers adopted the Vandergrift et al.(2006) scale for metacognitive awareness of listening, which consisted of (20) items, and Farhad et al. (2024) scale for academic hope, which consisted of (18) items. The research results that there are metacognitive awareness of listening, there are academic hope, and there are a positive correlation between metacognitive awareness of listening and academic hope. In light of the results, the researchers developed a number of recommendations and suggestions.

The research aimed to know “the effectiveness of infographic design in acquiring educational concepts among students of colleges of education in the foundations of education subject.” To achieve the research goal, the following null hypothesis was formulated: “There is no statistically significant difference at the significance level (0.05) between the average grades of the experimental group students.” Which is taught according to the infographic model and the average grades of the control group students who are taught according to the usual method of acquiring educational concepts.” The research sample amounted to (50) male and female students, with (25) for the experimental group and (25) for the control group for the academic year (2023 - (2024 AD) the second semester, and the two researchers prepared a test for the acquisition of educational concepts consisting of (60) items. Its validity and reliability were confirmed, and then it was applied to the research sample. After the researcher reviewed the literature and previous studies, she adopted the (Al-Amri, 2013)scale for doubiethink which consists of (34) paragraphs distributed over four areas,nameiy exchanging ideas, hnteiiectual flexibility , and the (Al-Omari, 2019)scale for emotional which consists (40) paragraphs distributed overfive areas namely emotional, knowledge regulation ,empathy ,sociall and She extracted the characteristics Psychometrics represented by apparent validity and construct validity indicators,) male and female students was relied upon to find stability using the two methods (test and retest, and Cronbach's), and the data were statistically analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (Spss) and the results appeared as follows:
1- university students are characterized by double thinkin
2-university are students characterized by emotional intelligence.
3- There is a positive correlation between the research variables.

هدف البحث الحالي التعرف على درجة التفكير المزدوج والذكاء الانفعالي لدى طلبة الجامعة ، تبعا لمتغير الجنس وكذلك الكشف عن العلاقة الارتباطية بين التفكير المزدوج والذكاء الانفعالي لدى طلبة الجامعة ، وحدد مجتمع البحث الحالي بطلبة جامعة واسط للدراسات الصباحية للعام الدراسي (2022– 2023) والبالغ عددهم (28788) ، وقد اشتملت عينة البحث الحالي على (400) طالب وطالبة من طلبة جامعة واسط ، وبعد اطلاع الباحثة على الأدبيات والدراسات السابقة تبنت الباحثة مقياس ( العامري ، 2013) للتفكير المزدوج والمكون من (34) فقرة ، ومقياس ( العمري ، 2019) للذكاء الانفعالي والمكون من ( 40) فقرة ، وتم استخراج الخصائص السايكومترية المتمثلة بالصدق الظاهري ومؤشرات صدق البناء ، وتم الاعتماد على عينة قوامها (40) طالب وطالبة لاستخراج الثبات بطريقتي ( الاختبار وإعادة الاختبار ، والفاكرونباخ) وحُللِّت البيانات إحصائياً باستعمال الحقيبة الإحصائية للعلوم الاجتماعية (SPSS) وأظهرت النتائج ما يأتي:
1- إن طلبة الجامعة يتصفون بالتفكير المزدوج .
2- إن طلبة الجامعة لديهم ذكاء الانفعالي .
2- توجد علاقة ارتباطية بين متغيري البحث التفكير المزدوج والذكاء الانفعالي لدى طلبة
وفي ضوء النتائج خرج البحث بمجموعة من الاستنتاجات والتوصيات والمقترحات.

Abstract

Social media plays a prominent and important role in family life. Its role is no longer limited to disseminating and exchanging information. Rather, its scope has expanded to include issues with diverse dimensions, such as raising awareness in social, psychological, and health fields. Women may have a share in these areas created by various social media sites. Educational programs in various directions target women, particularly those related to health in general and reproductive health in particular. There are specialized pages in this field that have had an impact on developing a culture of fertility and reproductive health among Iraqi women, and thus its impact on the family. This is the subject of our research. The researcher used the social survey method to investigate the facts of the subject, utilizing a questionnaire to collect data. The researcher concluded that social media sites play a significant role in spreading health culture in general, and reproductive health in particular, and that the majority of women rely on the health advice presented on social media sites and specialized electronic pages.

تلعب مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي دورا بارزا ومهما في حياة الأسرة ولم يعد دورها يقتصر على بث وتداول المعلومات بل تعددت مجالته واتسعت نطاقاته لتشمل قضايا ذات أبعاد مختلفة كتنمية الوعي في المجالات الاجتماعية والنفسية والصحية ، ولعل للمرأة نصيب في هذه المجالات التي أحدثتها مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي المختلفة, فالبرامج التثقيفة في مختلف الاتجاهات منها مايستهدف المرأة لاسيما فيما يتعلق بالصحة بشكل عام والصحة الإنجابية بشكل خاص إذ إن هناك صفحات متخصصة في هذا المجال كانت لها الاثر في تنمية ثقافة الإنجاب والصحة الإنجابية للمراة العراقية وبالتالي انعكاسها في الأسرة ولمعرفة مضامين الصحة الإنجابية الشخصية والاسرية والاجتماعية التي تقدمها مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي ومدى انعكاسها على تنمية الوعي الصحي ، قد استخدمت الباحثة المنهج الوصفي التحليلي في تقصي حقائق الموضوع بالاستعانة بأداة استمارة الاستبيان في جمع البيانات وقد توصلت الباحثة إلى أن مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي لها دور بالغ في نشر الثقافة الصحية بشكل عام والصحة الإنجابية على وجه الخصوص وان غالبية النساء يعتمدن على النصائح الصحية التي تعرض في مواقع التواصل والصفحات الالكترونية المتخصصة.

The Impact of a Counseling Program on Enhancing Psychological Flow Among Secondary School Students

Abstract

The current study aimed to design a counseling program for enhancing psychological flow among secondary school students, to investigate the effect of the program on psychological flow, and to determine the size of its impact. The researcher adopted the experimental method, and the study sample consisted of 76 male and female students. To achieve the study objectives, the researcher developed the Psychological Flow Scale in its final version, which consisted of 40 items. The validity of the scale was verified through face validity and statistical analysis of the items, while its reliability was confirmed using two methods: test-retest, which yielded a coefficient of 0.92, and Cronbach’s alpha, which reached 0.87. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was employed to analyze the study data. Based on the results, the researcher developed a counseling program according to Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s theory of flow, consisting of 14 sessions held three times a week. The program was applied to the experimental group, while no counseling program was provided to the control group. After completing the program, the scale was re-administered to both groups (post-test), and the results indicated statistically significant differences in favor of the experimental group. In light of these findings, the researcher presented several recommendations and suggestions.

هدفت الدراسة الحالية إلى تصميم برنامج إرشادي لتنمية التدفق النفسي لدى طلبة المرحلة الإعدادية، والتعرف على أثر هذا البرنامج على مستوى التدفق النفسي، وكذلك تحديد حجم تأثيره. اعتمدت الباحثة المنهج التجريبي، وتكونت عينة البحث من (76) طالبًا وطالبة. ولتحقيق أهداف الدراسة، قامت الباحثة ببناء مقياس التدفق النفسي بصيغته النهائية، والذي اشتمل على (40) فقرة. وقد تم التحقق من صدق المقياس من خلال الصدق الظاهري والتحليل الإحصائي للفقرات، كما تم حساب الثبات باستخدام طريقتين: إعادة الاختبار، حيث بلغ معامل الثبات (0.92)، ومعادلة ألفا كرونباخ، حيث بلغت (0.87). وتم استخدام الحقيبة الإحصائية للعلوم الاجتماعية (SPSS) لتحليل بيانات الدراسة.

Research tools included a healthy eating support program and tests to measure concentration and academic performance in mathematics. The results showed a significant difference between the performance of the two groups, with the experimental group achieving notably positive results compared to the control group, indicating the effectiveness of the intervention in improving academic performance. The study also reported a statistical significance of 0.000, reinforcing the research hypothesis regarding the impact of psychological well-being interventions related to nutrition on students' learning outcomes. The adequate sample size (30 individuals in each group) is essential for obtaining reliable results, supporting the importance of the research in enhancing educational strategies and improving student performance.

تقصت الدراسة "أثر برنامج الرفاه النفسي القائمة على دعم الأغذية الصحية في تعزيز التركيز والأداء الأكاديمي لطلاب الصف الأول المتوسط في مادة الرياضيات" استخدمت منهجاً تجريبياً مع عينة مكونة من 60 طالباً وطالبةً من الصف الأول المتوسط، تم تقسيمهم إلى مجموعتين: 30 طالباً وطالبةً في المجموعة التجريبية و30 في المجموعة الضابطة. تم تطبيق أدوات بحث شملت برنامج دعم الأغذية الصحية واختبارات لقياس التركيز والأداء الأكاديمي في مادة الرياضيات. أظهرت النتائج وجود فرق كبير بين أداء المجموعتين، فقد سجلت المجموعة التجريبية نتائج إيجابية ملحوظة تفوق المجموعة الضابطة؛ مما يشير إلى فعالية التدخل في تحسين الأداء الأكاديمي. كما حققت الدراسة دلالة إحصائية قدرها (0.000)، مما يعزز فرضية البحث حول تأثير تدخلات الرفاه النفسي المرتبطة بالتغذية على نتائج تعلم الطلاب. يعد حجم العينة الكافي (30 فرداً لكل مجموعة) ضرورياً للتوصل إلى نتائج موثوقة، مما يدعم أهمية البحث في تعزيز الاستراتيجيات التعليمية وتحسين أداء الطلاب.

Abstract

The current research can be summarized in the following points: Research objective: To determine the extent to which augmented reality technology impacts the academic performance of fourth-grade female students in sociology.Research hypothesis: The null hypothesis, which states "there is no statistically significant difference between the mean scores of students in the experimental and control groups" in the post-test results, is valid
Procedures:
1. Using a quasi-experimental design with partial control and two groups.
2. The research sample (62) female students was intentionally selected (this will be explained in the third chapter). They were randomly and equally divided into two groups: experimental and control (the experimental group studied using augmented reality technology, and the control group studied using the traditional method).
3. Constructing the achievement test: It consisted of (50) items, and its psychometric properties were confirmed.
Results: The results showed that the group that studied using this technology outperformed the other group. This indicates the influence of the independent variable on the events of the experiment that is the subject of the research, and that this technology has an impact and effectiveness in teaching and subsequently has an impact on raising the academic level of female students.

الهدف من البحث: معرفة تعرف اثر "تكنولوجيا الواقعية المعززة" على تحسين وتعديل مستويات طالبات المرحلة الاعدادية _الصف الرابع ادبي تحديدا_، وتحصيلهن في "مادة علم الاجتماع".
الفرض البحثي: الفرض الصفري الذي نص بـ "لا يوجد فرق بين متوسطات درجات طالبات المجموعتين التجريبية والضابطة في نتائج الاختبار البعدي دال احصائيا".
الإجراءات:
• توظيف تصميم المقارنة الثابت لمجموعتين ذي الاختبار البعدي فقط، كل مجموعة تكونت من 31 طالبة تم اختيارهن بشكل قصدي وسيتم شرحه في الفصل الثالث
• بناء الاختبار: والذي تكون مؤشراته من خمسين فقرة "اختيار من متعدد" وقد تم التاكد من جميع الخصاص الدالة على صلاحيته وموثوقيته، وايضا سيتم شرح تفاصيل ذلك في الفصل الثالث.
النتائج:
بعد ان اتممت عملية التطبيق والانتهاء من الاختبار وجمع البيانات أظهرت النتائج تقدم كروب الطالبات اللواتي خضعن للتجريب بمساعدة الواقعية المعززة على كروب الطالبات اللواتي درسن بالشكل المتعارف عليه اعتياديا وهذا يدل على تأثير هذه الوسيلة على مجريات التجربة موضوعة الدراسة، وان لها اثر وفاعلية في مخرجات التعليم وفي ارتفاع المستوى التحصيلي للطالبات وتوصلت بعدها الباحثة الى مجموعة من التوصيات والمقترحات

Abstract

This study seeks to clarify neighborhood relations and the social variables that have affected them. These are traditional relationships that represent the Arab heritage, and the Islamic religion has also been raised on these relationships. We notice through this study how the variables have negatively affected social relations and that people have become less inclined to spontaneous relationships. Most people have turned to relationships of interest and benefit, and individualism has overwhelmed them. Individuals have begun to interpret all the talk between them and their emotions on a personal level and not spontaneously. Over the years, these relationships have merged in old and modern neighborhoods, and people living in cities for years do not know each other, and there is nothing between them except peace and returning the greeting. Visits between them have become limited to official occasions and sharing condolences. We also notice that globalization, the spread of technology, and wide knowledge have changed the orientations of individuals, as thinking has become purely practical, so that individuals, especially the new generation, have become thinking practically and economically, a relationship that does not bring unnecessary benefit.

Academic Integrity and Its Relationship to Cognitive Curiosity Among University Students

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate the concept of academic integrity and its relationship with cognitive curiosity among university students. The researcher adopted a descriptive correlational methodology. The research sample consisted of (100) undergraduate students enrolled in the morning study at Al-Mustansiriyah University. The findings revealed statistically significant differences in favor of the mean score for academic integrity, indicating that the students exhibit a high level of academic integrity. Additionally, statistically significant differences were observed in favor of the mean score for cognitive curiosity, suggesting that students generally demonstrate a higher level of epistemic curiosity compared to the assumed average of the scale. Furthermore, the results indicated a positive correlation between academic integrity and epistemic curiosity among university students. The study concludes with a set of recommendations and suggestions. .

يهدف هذا البحث إلى التعرف على النزاهة الأكاديمية وعلاقتها بالفضول المعرفي لدى طلبة الجامعة، واعتمد الباحث المنهج الارتباطي الوصفي، لعينّة البحث المكونه من (100) طالب وطالبة من الجامعة المستنصرية الدراسة الصباحية، وكانت أبرز نتائج البحث تشير إلى ظهور فرق دال إحصائيا ولصالح المتوسط الحسابي لمتغير النزاهة الأكاديمية، اتضح أن طلبة الجامعة يتمتعون بمستوى عالي من النزاهة الأكاديمية، ووجود فرق دال إحصائيا ولصالح المتوسط الحسابي لمتغير الفضول المعرفي، ويبين أن الطلبة بصورة عامة يرتفع متوسط الفضول المعرفي لديهم عن المتوسط الفرضي للمقياس، وتوجد علاقة إيجابية قوية بين النزاهة الأكاديمية والفضول المعرفي لدى طلبة الجامعة ، وخرج البحث بعدد من التوصيات والمقترحات.

Smiling behavior and its association with positive self-esteem among first-year university students

Abstract

The researcher, in his study titled "Smiling Behavior and Its Association with Positive Psychological Attitudes among First-Year University Students", aimed to examine the level of smiling behavior among first-year university students following their transition from secondary school, as well as to identify differences in this behavior based on gender and academic specialization. The study further sought to determine the level of positive psychological attitudes and the correlation between smiling behavior and such attitudes. A descriptive methodology was employed to investigate the phenomenon. The study population consisted of 1,145 male and female students enrolled in the first year of university studies across scientific and humanities disciplines. From this population, a sample of 134 students was randomly selected using Thompson’s equation. Two instruments were designed for data collection: one measuring the level of smiling behavior (comprising 31 items distributed across three dimensions) and another measuring the level of positive psychological attitudes (comprising 28 items across three dimensions). Both instruments utilized a four-point Likert scale with the response options: Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, and Strongly Disagree. The tools were developed with reference to prior research and relevant studies.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the 4H strategy in enhancing academic achievement and developing deductive thinking among eighth-grade students in science. The problem of the study emerged from field observations and educational reports indicating a noticeable decline in students’ performance in science, as well as a weakness in higher-order thinking skills—particularly deductive reasoning. The 4H strategy was selected as an integrative model that combines cognitive (Head), emotional (Heart), psychomotor (Hands), and health/humanitarian (Health) dimensions within a comprehensive educational framework centered on the learner. The researchers employed an experimental design with partial control (post-test for two equivalent groups: experimental and control). The study was conducted on a sample of 70 eighth-grade students at Al-Majdi School in Erbil Governorate during the first semester of the 2024–2025 academic year. The experimental group was taught using the 4H strategy, while the control group received instruction through conventional methods. Two instruments were developed to measure the study variables: a science achievement test and a deductive thinking test.The data analysis revealed statistically significant differences in Favor of the experimental group in both academic achievement and deductive thinking. These findings confirm the effectiveness of the 4H strategy in improving students’ academic performance and enhancing their higher-order thinking skills. The study underscores the importance of integrating active learning strategies—particularly those that address multiple developmental dimensions of learners—into science curricula. It also recommends training teachers in the implementation of the 4H strategy.

Legal deduction from the Qur’an and Sunnah: A comparative study between the Sunni and Shiite schools

Abstract

This study analyzes the methodologies of Islamic legal inference (Ijtihad) within Sunni and Shia schools, focusing on their Quranic, Hadith, and Usul al-Fiqh (legal theory) foundations. It presents practical examples from Quranic narratives and contemporary legal issues to illustrate these approaches. Employing a comparative methodology, the research examines legal texts and scholarly opinions from both schools. The study's significance lies in addressing a gap in comparative applied studies on legal inference principles between these two traditions and proposing the development of more flexible inferential tools to meet modern needs.
The findings indicate that both schools agree on the centrality of the Quran as a primary source for legal rulings. However, they differ in their engagement with Quranic text, the authority and acceptance criteria of Hadith, and the acceptance of Qiyas (analogical reasoning), while agreeing on the importance of Ijma (consensus), albeit with differing stipulations. These differences highlight the richness of Islamic jurisprudence and underscore the need for continued dialogue and rapprochement between the various legal schools.

تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تحليل منهجية الاستنباط الشرعي في المدرستين السنية والشيعية، مع التركيز على الأسس القرآنية والحديثية والأصولية، وعرض نماذج تطبيقية عملية من القصص القرآني والمسائل الفقهية المعاصرة لتوضيح هذه المنهجيات. اعتمد البحث المنهج المقارن مستعينًا بتحليل النصوص الشرعية وأقوال العلماء من كلتا المدرستين. تكمن أهمية البحث في سد فراغ معرفي نظرًا لندرة الدراسات التطبيقية المقارنة التي تتناول أصول الاستنباط بين المدرستين، كما يقترح البحث تطوير أدوات استنباطية أكثر مرونة لتلبية احتياجات عصرنا الحالي. توصلت الدراسة إلى أن هناك اتفاقًا بين المدرستين على أن القرآن الكريم هو المصدر الأساسي للأحكام الشرعية، لكنهما تختلفان في التعامل مع النص القرآني، وفي حجية الحديث وقواعد قبوله، وفي قبول القياس، مع اتفاقهما على أهمية الإجماع بضوابط مختلفة. وتظهر النتائج أن هذه الاختلافات تعكس ثراء المنظومة الفقهية الإسلامية وتؤكد الحاجة إلى مزيد من الحوار والتقريب بين المدارس الفقهية المختلفة.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the role of self-concept and its dimensions (self-efficacy, self-esteem, and self-leadership) in achieving organizational recovery in top-ranked public universities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach, where a questionnaire consisting of (30) items was administered to a sample of (204) heads of academic departments, selected using a stratified random sampling method.
The data were analyzed using SPSS V29 for descriptive analysis and reliability testing, and Smart PLS 4.1.1 for structural equation modeling and path analysis. The study reached a set of conclusions, the most important of which was the existence of a statistically significant relationship between self-concept and organizational recovery. This result indicates that enhancing self-concept—particularly the self-leadership dimension—plays a pivotal role in enabling universities to achieve effective organizational recovery, underscoring the importance of investing in psychological development and leadership skills as an essential part of institutional recovery strategies. The study concluded with a set of recommendations in light of its findings, the most important of which is the need for universities to adopt integrated programs to develop self-leadership as part of their strategic plans for organizational recovery.

Abstract

هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى تحليل دور مفهوم الذات وأبعاده المتمثلة بـ(الكفاءة الذاتية، تقدير الذات، القيادة الذاتية) في تحقيق التعافي التنظيمي في الجامعات الحكومية ذات التصنيف الأوائل في إقليم كردستان العراق. اعتمدت الدراسة المنهج الوصفي التحليلي، حيث تم تطبيق استبانة مكونة من (30) فقرة على عينة تكونت من (204) من رؤساء الأقسام العلمية، تم اختيارهم بالطريقة العشوائية الطبقية. وقد بلغ حجم المجتمع الأصلي للدراسة (310) رئيس قسم في تلك الجامعات.
تم تحليل البيانات باستخدام برنامجي: (SPSS V29) للتحليلات الوصفية واختبار الثبات، و(Smart PLS 4.1.1) لنمذجة المعادلات البنائية وتحليل المسارات. توصلت الدراسة إلى مجموعة من الاستنتاجات أهمها، وجود علاقة تأثير معنوي ذات دلالة إحصائية للمفهوم الذاتي على التعافي التنظيمي. تشير هذه النتيجة إلى أن تعزيز المفهوم الذاتي - وخاصةً بُعد القيادة الذاتية - يلعب دوراً محورياً في تمكين الجامعات من تحقيق التعافي التنظيمي الفعال، مما يؤكد أهمية الاستثمار في التنمية النفسية والمهارات القيادية كجزء أساسي من استراتيجيات التعافي المؤسسي.
كما اختتت الدراسة بجملة من التوصيات في ضوؤء النتائج التي توصلت اليها أهمها، ضرورة تبني الجامعات لبرامج متكاملة لتنمية القيادة الذاتية ضمن خططها الاستراتيجية للتعافي التنظيمي.

Abstract

Man has practiced various types of art since the beginning of his first consciousness, without distinguishing between utilitarian and recreational purposes. Because art is one of the most flexible activities of the self, in accordance with its desires, inclinations, and needs, it was the most receptive, accommodating, and inclusive of the self's ambitions, goals, and pursuit of a better future, even if it reached the point of transcending reality to become a form of fantasy. The artist exploited this, creating an artistic fantasy in accordance with the environmental data prevailing in his society, whether social, political, or technical. With the passage of time, the exacerbation of social problems and the multiplicity of their precursors, and the advancement of technological inventions, he excelled in creating a virtual aesthetic that reached its peak in contemporary digital art. This, in turn, produced unique aesthetic dimensions through scientific technology, creating a virtual poetic reality teeming with realistic human feelings and emotions, but with an unrealistic vision. This, in turn, created a cognitive problem between the ego and reality, which led to... Fantasy is an alternative solution to this reality and leaves an aesthetic impact on the recipient's self, with several reading dimensions through a multifaceted act of reception. From this starting point, the current research was founded, consisting of four chapters. The first chapter contained the research problem, which revolved around the following question: What are the aesthetic dimensions of contemporary digital art generated between the fantasy of reception and the modernity of technology? The chapter also included the importance of the research and the need for it. The aim of the research is to identify (the aesthetic dimensions of contemporary digital art between the fantasy of reception and the modernity of technology). It also included the limits of the research and the definition of its terms. Chapter Two comprises three sections. The first section examines the concept of fantasy and the cognitive and aesthetic reception associated with it. The second section examines the concept of fantasy and the psychological reception associated with it as stated in the psychoanalytic theories of Freud, Jung, and Kress. The third section examines digital art, the modernity of technology, and its aesthetic themes. The chapter concludes with the theoretical framework's indicators. Chapter Three addresses the research procedures, starting with the research community, followed by its sample, methodology, and tools, followed by an analysis of the research sample. Chapter Four reviews the research results and conclusions, as well as recommendations and suggestions.

Abstract

The issue of language acquisition has occupied a significant place in philosophy in general, and contemporary linguistic philosophy in particular. Childhood is a fundamental stage in human life. Throughout life, a person is influenced by the environment in which they live. This stage represents the fundamental building block in shaping their personality, formation, and education. Chomsky is considered the most important linguist of his time, to the point that he has been called the "father of modern linguistics." He presented a new vision of language that saved humanity from the behaviorist view, which viewed human mental capacity as mechanical, like a machine. This contrasts with Chomsky's view of humanity, which gave flexibility to humans and not to any other creature. A child can begin with short words and then form sentences over a period of time, creating a large number of sentences for the purpose of communicating with those around him, such as his mother, father, and family members. Acquisition goes through several interconnected developments and stages, and a child's age is an important factor in language acquisition. When a child reaches the age of six, they learn and practice language. This is a characteristic that distinguishes humans from other creatures. This is what Chomsky called the "language acquisition system.

شغلت مسألة اكتساب اللغة مكانة كبيرة في الفلسفة بشكل عام وفلسفة اللغة المعاصرة بشكل خاص، وتعد مرحلة الطفولة من المرتكزات الأساسية في حياة الإنسان ، فهو يتأثر في مراحل حياته بالمحيط الذي يعيش فيه، وهذه المرحلة تعد اللبنة الأساسية في بناء شخصيته وتكوينه وتعليمه، يعد تشومسكي اهم علماء اللغة في عصره حتى قيل إنه "أبو اللسانيات الحديثة". وقدم رؤية جديدة للغة أنقذ بها الإنسان من نظرة السلوكيين التي تعد قدرة الإنسان الذهنية ميكانيكية كالآلة، على عكس رؤية تشومسكي للإنسان الذي أعطى مرونة للإنسان وليس لمخلوق آخر. فالطفل يستطيع أن يبدأ بكلمات قصيرة ومن ثم يكون جملا خلال فترة معينة، ويكون عددا كبيرا من الجمل بهدف التواصل مع من حوله كأمه وأبيه وأفراد أسرته، والاكتساب يمر بتطورات ومراحل عدة مترابطة، والسن العمري لدى الطفل يعد عامل مهم في اكتساب اللغة؛ فعندما يصل إلى السن السادسة من عمره يتعلم اللغة ويمارسها. وهذه خاصية تميز بها الإنسان دون غيره من المخلوقات. وهذا ما أسماه تشومسكي بـ ( جهاز اكتساب اللغة).

Abstract

This study aim to analyze the nature of religious experience in William James ,as well as to uncover its horizons on both the theoretical and levels .it attempted to penetrate the human self , with the aim of uncovering its hidden implications ,the unknown effects and powers, and the infinite in its manifestations and manifestations. It was able present a systematic synthesis that combined within its folds what is human, which internalizes the self and its hidden aspects, with what is religious and spiritual , which transcends that self and elevates it to the highest levels, provided that man always remains the starting point and the ultimate goal at the same time. Hence, religious did not present what was its source. James drew inspiration from it for all the sources of strength and worked to stimulate them as a mere problematic subject that establishes a critique of life in contemporary western civilization to the extent that it strengthens it, in addition to the sources of weakness that he sometimes worked to correct or overcome at other time.

Sufis rely on symbols and signs to convey deep meanings, while artificial intelligence uses encryption to protect and obscure information. The study aims to compare encryption methods in both fields and examine the potential of utilizing AI to analyze encrypted Sufi texts.
By analyzing selected Sufi texts using natural language processing techniques, the research highlights similarities between the two domains, such as multiple layers of meaning and the need for specific keys for interpretation. While AI offers possibilities for studying Sufi symbolism, the mystical and experiential nature of Sufi signs remains a challenge for digital processing. The study recommends further research to explore this potential in greater depth.

من خلال تحليل نصوص صوفية مختارة باستخدام تقنيات معالجة اللغة الطبيعية، يكشف البحث عن أوجه التشابه بين المجالين، مثل تعدد مستويات الفهم واعتماد مفاتيح خاصة للتفسير. ورغم وجود إمكانيات للاستفادة من الذكاء الاصطناعي في دراسة الإشارات الصوفية، إلا أن البعد العرفاني والروحي للإشارة يظل تحديًا أمام المعالجة الرقمية. ويوصي البحث بمزيد من الدراسات لاستكشاف هذه الإمكانية بعمق.

A Pragmatic Study on the Death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in Selected Newspapers

Abstract

Language is an essential instrument in the hands of journalists, who use it to achieve a variety of goals. The gap of the current study is to figure out the hidden meanings that are covered in the newspapers about the death of the Iranian President death Ebrahim Raisi. The study aims to explicate how the pragmatic implications are used in the media coverage of the Iranian president's death. The qualitative method was used for data analysis. Two global newspapers, namely, Le Monde from France and The Times of India, were selected to investigate the data extensively. Grice’s implicature theory (1975) was applied to explicate the implied meanings. The findings of the study reveal that the journalists in these two newspapers frequently convey implied ideas that are carried out depending on the context through the use of particularised conversational implicature. It is concluded that these newspapers utilise certain interpretations that convey the concept of support and criticism based on the event. Lastly, the study contributes in offering deep understandings for journalists, educators, students of English, researchers and policymakers since it illustrates how the news is framed to report on global events.

تعتبر اللغة أداة أساسية في أيدي الصحفيين، يستخدمونها لتحقيق أهداف متعددة. تسعى هذه الدراسة إلى كشف المعاني الخفية المتعددة التي رافقت وفاة الرئيس الإيراني إبراهيم رئيسي. لذا، تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى استكشاف كيفية توظيف الدلالات البراغماتية في التغطية الإعلامية لوفاة الرئيس الإيراني في الصحف. تم اتباع المنهج النوعي لتحليل البيانات. وتم اختيار صحيفتان عالميتان، هما لوموند الفرنسية وتايمز أوف إنديا، للتحقيق في البيانات على نطاق واسع. واستُخدمت نظرية التضمين لغريس (1975) لشرح المعاني الخفية . وقد اظهرت النتائج أن الصحفيين في هاتين الصحيفتين ينقلون في كثير من الأحيان أفكاراً ضمنية يتم تنفيذها اعتماداً على السياق من خلال استخدام التضمين الخاص بالحوار . توصلت الدراسة إلى أن هذه الصحف تستخدم تفسيرات معينة تحمل مفهوم الدعم والنقد بناءً على الحدث. وأخيرًا، تُعدّ هذه الدراسة مهمة للصحفيين والمعلمين وطلبة اقسام اللغة الانكليزية والباحثين وصانعي السياسات، إذ توضح كيفية صياغة الأخبار لتغطية الأحداث العالمية.

Abstract

This study investigates the symbolic and structural roles of archetypal numbers in Yangsze Choo’s novel The Ghost Bride (2013), using Carl Jung’s theory of number archetypes. The research explores how these numbers, rooted in Chinese cultural and philosophical beliefs, function as narrative and symbolic devices. Decoding number symbolism allow readers and critics to better appreciate the importance of numbers as a literary device. The research builds its theoretical analysis on the interdisciplinary approach of Carl G. Yung’s Theory of Archetypal numbers and numerology concentrating on close reading of the text. After identifying the main archetypal numbers in the novel, the paper concentrated on time as a representative of archetypal number. The findings reveal that archetypal numbers enrich the thematic complexity of the novel and deepen its Chinese cultural resonance representing the three major belief systems and Chinese mythology.

ان هذا البحث يدرس الدور الرمزي للارقام البدئية في رواية يانغشي تشو العروس الشبح باستخدام نظرية كارل يونغ للارقام البدئية. ان البحث يحلل كيفية توظيف هذه الارقام كوسيلة سردية ورمزية تستمد رمزيتها من الثقافة والمعتقدات الفلسفية الصينية. ان فك شفرة الارقام سوف يمكن كل من القاريء والناقد الادبي من فهم اهمية الارقام كعنصر ادبي يشير الى المكان والزمان ويعطي عمق للشخصيات. ركزت الباحثتان على الزمن كرقم بدئي وتم تحليله وفق نظرية كارل يونغ للارقام البدئية وعلم الارقام. بعد التعرف على الارقام البدئية في الرواية ركزت الباحثتان على الوقت كمثال على الرقم البدئي لتكون نتيجة البحث ان هذه الارقام تثري عمق موضوع الرواية ويعزز الابعاد الثقافية والفلسفية الصينية.

Abstract

Technology and artificial intelligence are transforming how humans relate to memory, grief and identity. In Jordan Harrison’s Marjorie Prime (2016), AI versions known as “Primes” assist people in processing loss by keeping particular memories of the dead. This paper examines how these digital constructs preserve emotional ties but exercise a revisionist spin on personal history, thus posing moral questions around authenticity and closure. While virtual representations expand mourning practices, they also erase the boundary between authentic grieving and artificial continuity. The analysis highlights the impermanence of AI memorials, and their reliance on human input and absence of true consciousness. Although these technologies may provide comfort in some cases, they can complicate the grieving process with unrealistic, artificial relationships. Situating Marjorie Prime within the larger conversation surrounding Thanatechnology and digital legacies, AI memorials are presented as simultaneously generative and problematic, enabling deeper considerations of the limits of human-AI interaction in grieving.

AI in teaching English is reshaping language learning. While interest in AI-supported education is growing worldwide, research in this area is still emerging in Iraq. This review synthesizes empirical AI-based intervention studies to enhance English language learning in Iraqi higher education, and the perceptions of stakeholders regarding AI tools in language instruction. The reviewed intervention studies, comprising studies employed different AI platforms to support grammar instruction, speaking fluency, writing feedback, and pragmatic competence. These interventions yielded improvements in learners’ performance, motivation, and communicative confidence. In parallel, perception-focused studies revealed positive attitudes toward AI's potential, and also highlighted persistent challenges, including insufficient infrastructure, limited digital training, and concerns over pedagogical alignment. The synthesis underscores both the promise and limitations of AI integration. It advocates for contextually grounded, methodologically rigorous research while emphasizing the need for investment in digital readiness and educators’ support to ensure equitable and sustainable AI adoption in language education.

Abstract

دمج الذكاء الاصطناعي في تعليم اللغة الإنجليزية يعيد تشكيل طرق تعلم اللغة. وبينما يزداد الاهتمام بالتعليم المدعوم بالذكاء الاصطناعي عالمياً، لا تزال الأبحاث في هذا المجال محدودة في العراق. تستعرض هذه الورقة دراسات تجريبية طبقت أدوات الذكاء الاصطناعي لتحسين تعلم الإنجليزية في التعليم العالي العراقي، إلى جانب تصورات المعنيين حول هذه الأدوات. اشتملت الدراسات على أدوات مختلفة لدعم تعليم القواعد، الطلاقة في التحدث، التغذية الراجعة الكتابية، والكفاءة التداولية، وأسفرت عن تحسن في الأداء والدافعية والثقة التواصلية. كما كشفت دراسات التصورات عن مواقف إيجابية تجاه الذكاء الاصطناعي، لكنها سلطت الضوء أيضاً على تحديات مستمرة مثل ضعف البنية التحتية، وقلة التدريب الرقمي، ومخاوف تتعلق بملاءمة الأدوات للمناهج. تؤكد هذه المراجعة الفرص والقيود المرتبطة بدمج الذكاء الاصطناعي، وتدعو إلى أبحاث أكثر صلة بالسياق المحلي وأكثر صرامة منهجية، مع ضرورة الاستثمار في الجاهزية الرقمية ودعم المعلمين لضمان اعتماد منصف ومستدام لهذه التكنولوجيا.

Abstract

This study analyzes the role of folklore in reinforcing an individual's cultural identity during times of personal and social adversity. The study focuses on how Kuwaiti writer Saud Al-Sanousi presents the role of folklore in providing an insight of the cultural identity of different societies in his novel "The Bamboo Stalk" (2012), highlighting the cultural heritage of the Philippines and Kuwait. By examining the interaction between myths, customs, and folktales, this novel highlights the role of folklore as a mechanism for cultural continuity and resilience. The study demonstrates that these folk elements provide a sense of psychological stability and give characters a sense of belonging by dealing with complex issues, such as identity and alienation. The study concludes that folklore represents a personal and collective anchor that enables individuals and groups to confront and overcome frustration, alienation, and dispersion.

This paper investigates the rich musicality and layered structural design of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, a narrative ballad that fuses elements of folklore, morality, and the supernatural. By focusing on poetic devices such as alliteration, internal rhyme, repetition, and rhythmic modulation, the study examines how Coleridge crafts a sonic texture that enhances the poem’s emotional and symbolic depth. The analysis adopts a stylistic and formalist approach to trace the Mariner’s psychological and spiritual journey—one of self-discovery, penance, and eventual transformation situated within a multi-tonal narrative structure. Abstract

This research focuses on the novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, which was first published in (1850) and is considered one of his most famous and influential works. The novel tells the story of a married woman who is tried for the crime of adultery after becoming pregnant by an unknown man during her husband’s absence, in a strictly religious Christian society in 17th-century Boston. The narrative delves into this woman’s (Hester's) suffering following her scandal, and how she copes with her circumstances, after being forced to wear a scarlet letter (A) as a mark of shame and to be exiled.This study aims to shed light on the struggle and resistance of the character Hester—as well as her daughter Pearl—as a representation of feminism in the face of the dominance and control of the male characters in the novel, who serve as symbols of patriarchal authority. The novel is seen as one of the earliest seeds of successful feminism and rebellion against male or paternal oppression. The research will explore various aspects of the conflict between feminism and patriarchy on psychological, metaphorical, and physical levels.

Abstract

Molière est un écrivain de renom, reconnu pour sa capacité à utiliser la satire pour exposer les vices et les défauts de la société de son époque. À son époque, la société était divisée en différentes classes sociales, et il critiquait régulièrement le système de classes en vigueur à la cour de France, mettant en lumière les injustices qu'il engendrait. Ses comédies s'attaquaient aux travers d'une époque, d'un groupe ou d'une classe sociale généralement dominante.
L'étude de cette œuvre est certainement importante pour comprendre la dynamique des genres et le rôle de l'éducation dans la société du XVIIe siècle. La problématique de cette recherche se concentre sur la manière dont Molière remet en question les normes sociales de son temps et comment ses personnages féminins reflètent ou défient ces normes.
'' Les Femmes savantes '' est un exemple de satire littéraire dans lequel Molière se moque des comportements et des attitudes de ses contemporains, en particulier des femmes qui cherchent à se montrer plus érudites que les hommes, notamment dans les domaines de la littérature et de la philosophie. Bien qu'il ne fût pas opposé à l'éducation des femmes, il avait souvent des comptes à régler avec elles et plaidait déjà pour leur émancipation. Abstract

The concept of Assemblage appeared obviously in Postdramatic works, where a character or a text may stand as an assemblage of potentialities in the sense that it signifies unidentified subjectivity. Assemblages are constituted essentially of heterogeneous elements yet fused without specific demarcations. In order to enjoy the desired productivity at a "smooth pace," the regularities of political and societal institutionalization are disseminated. To achieve this dissemination, Deleuze-Guattari suggest an unsatiated platform of a "Body without Organs' (BwO), where desire escapes identification. Martin Crimp (b. 1956) defines his off-stage characters in Attempts on Her Life (1997), Anne, or whatever the name is, as a 'BwO', upon which Anne evolves narratively as a collection of heterogeneous elements from the character's milieu to constitute a schizophrenic character who cannot be defined or grasped by the Capitalist reins.

Abstract

This study offers a socio-pragmatic analysis of suicide as depicted in the Japanese novelist Eto Mori’s Colorful, aiming to present a nuanced understanding of its causes and its impact on individuals and their social relationships. While previous studies have extensively explored adolescent suicide in literature from psychological and sociological perspectives, linguistic approaches to this theme remain relatively underexamined. Addressing this gap, the present study adopts Milroy and Gordon’s Social Network Theory (2003) and Brown and Levinson’s Politeness Theory (1987) within a qualitative textual analysis framework. The analysis centers on three key narrative domains: familial dynamics, educational settings, and spiritual guidance. Findings indicate that dense social networks can restrict opportunities for open communication, emotional validation, and support, thereby reinforcing feelings of isolation and helplessness. Furthermore, the novel conveys two critical insights relevant to adolescent experiences: first, it frames suicide as a grave and irreversible act, underscoring its profound consequences; second, it highlights the impermanence and unpredictability of life, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and hope in the face of adversity.

This paper examines commissive speech acts in The Wall (2017), exploring how characters' commitments and promises shape the narrative and thematic elements of the film. Drawing from the field of pragmatics, where commissive speech acts are those in which speakers commit to future actions, this study investigates the role of these acts in conveying themes of alienation, rebellion, and self-destruction. By employing a pragmatic analysis of selected dialogue scenes, the research identifies and categorizes various types of commissive acts, such as promises, vows, and offers, and analyzes how they reflect the psychological states of the characters, particularly the protagonist, Pink. Through this approach, the study reveals how these speech acts function not only as communicative tools but also as vehicles for emotional and thematic expression. The findings suggest that commissive acts are integral to understanding the characters' motivations and their interactions with their environment, offering a deeper insight into the emotional and ideological conflicts portrayed in the film. Ultimately, this paper contributes to the intersection of pragmatics and film studies by demonstrating how the study of speech acts can enrich our understanding of cinematic storytelling.

AI and Pragmatics: Do Chatbots Follow Speech Acts & Maxims? Evaluating AI-Generated Conversations Using Pragmatics

Abstract

The increasing use of AI chatbots in human communication raises critical questions about their ability to adhere to pragmatic principles, particularly Speech Act Theory (Searle, 1969) and Grice’s Cooperative Principle (Grice, 1975). This study investigates whether AI-generated conversations successfully produce appropriate speech acts and adhere to Grice’s maxims. Furthermore, it examines how these AI-generated dialogues compare to human conversations in terms of pragmatic competence. A dataset consisting of 120 AI-generated responses (from ChatGPT, Google Bard, Alexa, Siri, and Cohere) and 120 human conversations was analyzed to assess speech act distribution, adherence to conversational maxims, and pragmatic inconsistencies. The conclusions have shown that AI chatbots overuse Representative speech acts (factual statements) and Directives (commands, requests, refusals) unlike Expressivesunlike Expressives (apologies, gratitude, humor) and Commissives (promises, commitments). Thus, AI-generated conversations seem mechanical as well as they lacks both emotional intelligence and relational depth. Due to Grice’s maxims, frequently AI responses violate Quality (false or unverified information), Relation (irrelevance), Manner (ambiguity), and Quantity (either over-explaining or omitting key details) maxims. Contrastively, human speakers balance speech acts naturally. They adhere to conversational maxims to ensure clarity, coherence, and engagement. Although AI has advanced in syntactic fluency, the findings have shown, there is a lack in pragmaticin pragmatic adaptability and contextual awareness. In other words, this case led has to dialogic breakdowns and user’s reduction engagement. Accordingly, enhancing the AI’s pragmatic competence, focus should be on the expansion of speech act diversity, minimizing maxim violations, as well as on improving conversational memory for contextual adaptation.

Abstract

إن الاستخدام المتزايد للدردشات الذكية المدعومة بالذكاء الاصطناعي في التواصل البشري يثير تساؤلات جوهرية حول قدرتها على الالتزام بالمبادئ التداولية، ولا سيما نظرية الأفعال الكلامية (سيرل، 1969) ومبدأ التعاون لغرايس (غرايس، 1975). تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى التحقق مما إذا كانت المحادثات التي تولدها أنظمة الذكاء الاصطناعي تنتج أفعالًا كلامية مناسبة، وتلتزم بمبادئ غرايس، وكيف تقارن هذه الأنظمة بالمحادثات البشرية من حيث الكفاءة التداولية. تم تحليل مجموعة بيانات تتألف من 120 استجابة تم توليدها بواسطة الذكاء الاصطناعي (من ChatGPT، Google Bard، Alexa، Siri، وCohere) و120 محادثة بشرية، لتقييم توزيع الأفعال الكلامية، والامتثال للمبادئ الحوارية، والتباينات التداولية.وقد أظهرت النتائج أن روبوتات المحادثة تعتمد بشكل مفرط على الأفعال الكلامية التقريرية (مثل تقديم الحقائق) والتوجيهية (كالأوامر، والطلبات، والرفض)، مقارنة بالأفعال التعبيرية (كالاعتذار، والامتنان، والفكاهة) والالتزامية (كالوعود والالتزامات). لذا، تبدو المحادثات التي يُنتجها الذكاء الاصطناعي آلية الطابع، وتفتقر إلى الذكاء العاطفي والعمق الاجتماعي. ونتيجة لقصور الالتزام بمبادئ غرايس، فإن ردود الذكاء الاصطناعي تنتهك بشكل متكرر مبدأ الجودة (عبر تقديم معلومات كاذبة أو غير مؤكدة)، ومبدأ العلاقة (عبر تقديم محتوى غير ذي صلة)، ومبدأ الأسلوب (من خلال الغموض)، ومبدأ الكمية (إما بالإفراط في الشرح أو إغفال التفاصيل المهمة).في المقابل، يُظهر المتحدثون البشريون توازناً طبيعياً في استخدام الأفعال الكلامية، ويمتثلون للمبادئ الحوارية لضمان الوضوح والتماسك والتفاعل الفعال. وعلى الرغم من أن أنظمة الذكاء الاصطناعي قد تقدمت في الطلاقة النحوية، إلا أن النتائج تُظهر قصوراً في التكيف التداولي والوعي السياقي. بعبارة أخرى، أدت هذه الفجوات إلى انهيار في الحوار وتراجع تفاعل المستخدمين. ولذلك، فإن تعزيز الكفاءة التداولية لدى الذكاء الاصطناعي يجب أن يركّز على توسيع تنوّع الأفعال الكلامية، وتقليل انتهاكات المبادئ، وتحسين ذاكرة المحادثة لتمكين التكيف السياقي.

Abstract

Antoinette, the unfortunate heroin of Jean Rhys’s the most prominent and generally acclaimed novel is considered as twice “Other’ed” because of both her gender and ethnicity (as a Creole). The problematic nature of her identity as having both European and Caribbean ancestors intensifies her loneliness and inability to find peace within neither of these cultures, feeling alienated and homeless, in other wordsto use Homi K. Bhabha’s word “hybridity”. Meanwhile Antoinette is mistreated and oppressed by her husband, representative of English imperialism and patriarchy. He controls and subjugates his wife as slave owners did with their slaves. Considering the importance of name in connection to identity, renaming Antoinette by her husband is a form of manipulation and oppression which further distances her from her roots. Financial issues are also very important in oppressing Antoinette. Depriving the rich heiress of all her property according to English law means more dependence and oppression. In the quest for her identity, Antoinette is barred both by the postcolonial and patriarchal factors. That’s why she assumes schizophrenic identity and lives her mother’s life by succumbing to madness.

أنطوانيت، البطلة التعيسة في روايةجان ريس الأبرز والأكثر شهرة وتقديرًا، تعتبر "مغتربة مضاعفة" بسبب جنسها وأصولها العرقية (كواحدة من الكريول). طبيعة هويتها الإشكالية كشخصية ذات أصول أوروبية وكاريبية تعمق شعورها بالوحدة وعدم القدرة على العثور على السلام في أي من هاتين الثقافتين، مما يجعلها تشعر بالاغتراب وانعدام الانتماء، أو باستخدام مصطلح هومي ك. بهابها، "الهجنة". في الوقت نفسه، تتعرض أنطوانيت للقهر والاضطهاد من قبل زوجها، الذي يمثل الإمبريالية الإنجليزية والبطريركية الذكورية، حيث يسيطر عليها ويخضعها كما كان يفعل أصحاب العبيد مع عبيدهم.
وبالنظر إلى أهمية الاسم وارتباطه بالهوية، فإن إعادة تسمية أنطوانيت من قِبَل زوجها يُعد شكلًا من أشكال التلاعب والاضطهاد الذي يزيد من ابتعادها عن جذورها. كما تلعب القضايا المالية دورًا مهمًا في اضطهادها، حيث أن حرمانها — الوارثة الثرية — من كل ممتلكاتها بموجب القانون الإنجليزي يعني مزيدًا من التبعية والقهر.
في سعيها للبحث عن هويتها، تواجه أنطوانيت عوائق من كلا العاملين ما بعد الاستعماري والبطريركي، وهذا ما يدفعها إلى تبني هوية انفصالية (شيزوفرينية) وتعيش حياة أمها من خلال الاستسلام للجنون.

A Cognitive Stylistic Analysis of Crisis Rhetoric in English and Arabic Populist Poetry

Abstract

This study examines the rhetorical construction of crisis in English and Arabic populist poetry through the lens of Conceptual Blending Theory (CBT), as developed by Fauconnier and Turner (2002), within a cognitive stylistic framework. While previous research has extensively analyzed populist discourse in political speech and media (Moffitt, 2016), the study argues that there remains a significant gap in understanding how crisis rhetoric is cognitively and stylistically realized in poetic texts across different linguistic and cultural contexts. This study aims to address that gap by investigating how selected poets construct crisis narratives through conceptual blending, symbolic framing, and ideological positioning. Methodologically, the research applies CBT to purposively selected extracts from four poems, two in English by Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Benjamin Zephaniah, and two in Arabic by Mudhaffar al-Nawwab and Muwaffaq Muhammad. The analysis focuses on the cognitive mechanisms that shape emergent meaning through conceptual integration, paying close attention to poetic form and sociopolitical context. Findings reveal that the English poems tend to employ irony, satire, and appeals to universality, whereas the Arabic poems emphasize historical trauma and symbols of collective resistance. Ultimately, the contrastive analysis of blending networks shows how crisis rhetoric in populist poetry reflects culturally embedded yet thematically parallel strategies for articulating mobilizing identity.

تتناول هذه الدراسة البناء البلاغي للأزمة في الشعر الشعبوي باللغتين الإنجليزية والعربية من خلال توظيف نظرية المزج المفاهيمي كما طورها فوكونييه وتيرنر (2002)، وذلك ضمن إطار الأسلوبية المعرفية. وعلى الرغم من أنّ الدراسات السابقة قد تناولت الخطاب الشعبوي بصورة موسعة في سياقات الخطاب السياسي والإعلامي (موفيت، 2016)، إلا أنّ هذه الدراسة ترى أن هناك فجوة ملحوظة في فهم كيفية تجلّي بلاغة الأزمة معرفياً وأسلوبياً في النصوص الشعرية، وخصوصاً عبر لغات وثقافات مختلفة. وتهدف هذه الدراسة إلى معالجة هذه الفجوة من خلال تحليل كيفية قيام شعراء مختارين ببناء سرديات الأزمة عبر المزج المفاهيمي، والأطر الرمزية، والتوظيف الأيديولوجي. وتعتمد منهجة هذه الدراسة على نظرية المزج المفاهيمي عبر اقتباسات مختارة قصدياً من أربع قصائد، اثنتان باللغة الإنجليزية للشاعرين لورنس فيرلينغيتي وبنجامين صفنيا، واثنتان باللغة العربية للشاعرين مظفر النواب وموفق محمد. ويركز التحليل على الآليات المعرفية التي تسهم في تشكيل المعنى الناشئ من خلال التكامل المفاهيمي، مع إيلاء اهتمام دقيق بالشكل الشعري والسياق السوسيوسياسي. وتكشف النتائج أن القصائد الإنجليزية تميل إلى استخدام السخرية والتهكم واستدعاء الطابع الإنساني العام، بينما تركز القصائد العربية على استدعاء الصدمة التاريخية والرموز المرتبطة بالمقاومة الجمعية. وفي المحصلة، تُظهر المقارنة بين شبكات المزج المفاهيمي كيف تعكس بلاغة الأزمة في الشعر الشعبوي استراتيجيات متجذرة ثقافياً، وإنْ كانت متوازية موضوعياً في التعبير عن هوية احتجاجية قابلة للتعبئة.

Some Reservations on Translating Taboos from English into Arabic: Problems and Solutions

Abstract

This study examines the intricate linguistic and cultural difficulties associated with translating taboo terms from English into Arabic, especially those pertaining to sex, micturition, and excrement. Since taboos are ingrained in social conventions, translating them frequently calls for more than just linguistic equivalency; it also calls for cultural sensitivity and ethical consideration. The research examines how harsh or obscene phrases are translated into Arabic via omission and euphemism, using samples from colloquial English. The study evaluates how meaning and function are maintained while adjusting to Arabic cultural norms using Peter Newmark's (1988) communicative translation approach and Eugene Nida's (1964) model of dynamic equivalence. The results indicate that because of social, cultural, and religious constraints, direct translations of such taboo phrases are typically avoided in Arab societies. Instead, they frequently use practical approaches that modify or replace the taboo content while preserving the pragmatic effect. The study ends by suggesting audience-sensitive and context-aware translation strategies for taboos and urging more investigation into how these translations are received in various Arabic dialects and media outlets.

تبحث هذه الدراسة في الصعوبات اللغوية والثقافية المعقدة المرتبطة بترجمة المصطلحات المحرمة من الإنجليزية إلى العربية، وخاصة تلك المتعلقة بالجنس والتبول والبراز. ونظرًا لأن المحرمات متأصلة في الأعراف الاجتماعية، فإن ترجمتها غالبًا ما تتطلب أكثر من مجرد التكافؤ اللغوي؛ بل تتطلب أيضًا مراعاة الحساسية الثقافية والاعتبارات الأخلاقية. ويبحث البحث في كيفية ترجمة العبارات القاسية أو البذيئة إلى العربية عن طريق الحذف والتعبير الملطف، باستخدام عينات من اللغة الإنجليزية العامية. وتُقيّم الدراسة كيفية الحفاظ على المعنى والوظيفة مع التكيف مع المعايير الثقافية العربية باستخدام نهج الترجمة التواصلية لبيتر نيومارك (1988) ونموذج التكافؤ الديناميكي ليوجين نيدا (1964). وتشير النتائج إلى أنه نظرًا للقيود الاجتماعية والثقافية والدينية، فإن المجتمعات العربية عادةً ما تتجنب الترجمات المباشرة لهذه العبارات المحرمة. وبدلاً من ذلك، غالبًا ما تستخدم مناهج عملية تُعدّل أو تستبدل محتوى المحرمات مع الحفاظ على التأثير البراغماتي. تختتم الدراسة باقتراح استراتيجيات ترجمة مُراعية للجمهور ومُراعية للسياق للمحرمات، وحثّت على إجراء المزيد من البحث في كيفية استقبال هذه الترجمات في مختلف اللهجات العربية ووسائل الإعلام.

Students' Perceptions of Speaking Materials' Alignment with Communicative Needs: A Focus Group Investigation

Abstract

This qualitative study investigated how second- and third-stage English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students at the University of Duhok (UoD), English Language Department, evaluated the speaking materials used in their first semester in relation to their communication requirements. The study conducted focus group discussions (FGDs) with 24 students (12 females and 12 males, respectively) who were chosen from a total of approximately 250 students. Thematic analysis of focus group discussion transcripts concentrated on understanding students’ experiences regarding the materials based on academic and professional usability and cultural match, as well as assessment procedures. The study demonstrated that students gained confidence through the materials, yet many students questioned their connection to practical situations and cultural alignment, as well as testing procedures, particularly students in the third stage. Third-stage students expressed a preference for authentic materials along with topics focused on achieving fluency above everything else. Second-stage students valued teacher assistance more than anything else. Students progressively altered their perceptions of speaking materials during their linguistic development and their increased need for communicative abilities. The evaluation process shows that student feedback helps educators develop speaking materials by matching it with the students’ miscellaneous needs at the College of Basic Education.

بحثت هذه الدراسة النوعية في كيفية تقييم طلاب اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية (EFL) في كلية التربية الأساسية، جامعة دهوك، قسم اللغة الإنجليزية، في المرحلتين الثانية والثالثة، للوسائل الشفهية المستخدمة في الفصل الدراسي الأول، وفقًا لمتطلباتهم التواصلية. أجريت الدراسة من خلال مناقشات جماعية مركزة مع 24 طالبًا (12 أنثى و12 ذكرًا على التوالي) تم اختيارهم من إجمالي 250 طالبًا تقريبًا. ركز التحليل الموضوعي لسجلات المناقشات الجماعية المركزة على فهم تجارب الطلاب للوسائل التي تعتمد على قابليتها للاستخدام الأكاديمي والمهني والتوافق الثقافي، بالإضافة إلى إجراءات التقييم. أظهرت الدراسة أن الطلاب اكتسبوا الثقة من خلال وسائل التعليم، إلا أن العديد منهم شكك في ارتباطها بالمواقف العملية والتوافق الثقافي، بالإضافة إلى إجراءات الاختبار، وخاصةً طلاب المرحلة الثالثة. أعرب طلاب المرحلة الثالثة عن تفضيلهم للمواد الحقيقية، إلى جانب المواضيع التي تركز على تحقيق الطلاقة اللغوية فوق كل اعتبار آخر. وقيم طلاب المرحلة الثانية مساعدة الأساتذة أكثر من أي شيء آخر. وقد غيّر الطلاب تدريجيًا تصوراتهم للمواد الشفهية خلال تطورهم اللغوي، وتزايدت حاجتهم إلى مهارات التواصل. تبين عملية التقييم أن ردود الطلاب تساعد الأساتذة على تطوير وسائل التحدث من خلال مطابقتها مع الاحتياجات المتنوعة للطلاب.

Abstract

This research explores the language of conspiracy in House of Cards through a corpus-stylistic approach, applying the transitivity model of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) to analyze the monologues of Frank Underwood. The study examines the participants, processes, and circumstances within the monologues, focusing on how language constructs power, manipulation, and control in the context of political conspiracy. By breaking down Frank's monologues into mental, material, and relational processes, the analysis uncovers the linguistic strategies he employs to manipulate others, assert dominance, and navigate the political landscape. The findings reveal that material processes dominate Frank’s speech, reflecting his action-oriented and manipulative nature. His speech consistently positions him as the central agent of control, taking decisive actions to manipulate and shape political events around him. Mental processes, though present, are secondary and primarily serve to reflect Frank’s strategic thinking, while relational processes highlight his calculated evaluations of people and relationships, defining their value based on his political objectives. These linguistic features illustrate how Frank constructs power dynamics and manipulates those around him, solidifying his role as the mastermind behind the political conspiracy. Through this corpus-stylistic lens, the research highlights how language in House of Cards constructs a web of conspiracy, with Frank’s speech as the central force driving manipulation and power. This approach contributes to a deeper understanding of how linguistic choices shape the narrative of conspiracy and power in political dramas.

Abstract

Die aktuellste Pisa-Studie sowie Andreas Schleicher, Bildungsdirektor der OECD, heben hervor, dass Malen den Lernprozess unterstützt, indem es sowohl intellektuell als auch emotional einen Zugang zu den Inhalten schafft und so eine tiefere Verbindung zum Lernstoff ermöglicht. Diese Methode fördert nicht nur die kognitive und emotionale Entwicklung, sondern stärkt auch die Teamarbeit und Kommunikationsfähigkeiten, was zu einem nachhaltigen und motivierenden Lernerlebnis führt.
Im Rahmen meiner Studie wird untersucht, wie sich das Malen auf die Entwicklung der Sprechfertigkeit und des Wortschatzerwerbs auswirkt. Die Wahl fiel auf diese Methode, da sie kognitive und emotionale Prozesse gleichermaßen anspricht, das Verständnis vertieft und Hemmschwellen beim Spracherwerb abbaut. Besonders für schüchterne Lernende bietet das Malen die Möglichkeit, sich nonverbal auszudrücken, was eine nachhaltige Förderung ihrer Sprachkompetenz unterstützt.
Im Vergleich zu anderen Sprachlernspielen ermöglicht Malen eine intensivere und emotionalere Auseinandersetzung mit der Sprache. Diese entspannte Form des Ausdrucks reduziert die Angst vor Fehlern und hilft insbesondere Lernenden auf dem A2-Niveau, ihre Unsicherheiten in der mündlichen Sprachproduktion zu überwinden. Somit trägt Malen nicht nur zur sprachlichen Entwicklung, sondern auch zur Stärkung des Selbstbewusstseins bei
Die Studie wurde über einen Zeitraum von zwei Jahren mit Studierenden an der Abteilung für Übersetzung an der Universität Wasit durchgeführt. Sie findet im Jahr 2024 statt und umfasst 90 Teilnehmer, die in zwei Gruppen aufgeteilt sind. Der Fokus liegt auf der Verbesserung der Sprechfertigkeit und des Wortschatzerwerbs, mit dem Ziel, die Lernenden von A2 auf B1 zu bringen.
Zur Förderung werden verschiedene Malaufträge eingesetzt, wie etwa Bildbeschreibungen, das Erzählen von Geschichten und Dialogübungen, die den Wortschatz erweitern und die Sprachkompetenz stärken sollen. Der Lernerfolg wird anhand von Vorher-Nachher-Vergleichen, Wortschatztests, mündlichen Bewertungen sowie schriftlichen Reflexionen erfasst. Zur Ermittlung der Motivationssteigerung werden zusätzlich Selbstauskunftsbögen verwendet.
Insgesamt wird erwartet, dass das Malen den Wortschatz der Lernenden bereichert, die Sprechfertigkeit verbessert und ihre Motivation zum Lernen nachhaltig steigert.

مقارنةً بألعاب تعلم اللغات الأخرى. ويُقلل هذا الشكل المُريح من التعبير من الخوف من ارتكاب الأخطاء، ويساعد المتعلمين، وخاصةً في مستوى A2، على التغلب على مخاوفهم في إنتاج اللغة الشفهية. وهكذا، لا يُسهم الرسم في تطوير اللغة فحسب، بل يُعزز أيضًا الثقة بالنفس. أُجريت الدراسة على مدار عامين مع طلاب قسم الترجمة بجامعة واسط، واكتملت عام ٢٠٢٤، وقد ضمت ٩٠ مشاركًا مُقسَّمين على مجموعتين. يُركِّز البحث على تحسين مهارات التحدث واكتساب المفردات، بهدف الارتقاء بالمتعلمين من المستوى A2 إلى المستوى B1. وتُستخدم مهام الرسم المُتنوعة لتعزيز التعلم، مثل: (وصف الصور، وسرد القصص، وتمارين الحوار). وتهدف إلى توسيع المفردات وتقوية المهارات اللغوية. ويُقاس نجاح التعلم باستخدام مقارنات قبلية وبعدية، واختبارات مفردات، وتقييمات شفوية، وتأملات كتابية. كما تُستخدم استبانات التقرير الذاتي لتحديد مدى زيادة الدافعية. وبشكل عام، من المتوقع أن يُثري الرسم مفردات المتعلمين، ويُحسِّن مهارات التحدث، ويزيد من دافعيتهم للتعلم بشكل مُستدام.

Abstract

Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower(1993) , presents a dystopian world marked by environmental collapse, social disorder, and moral decay. Amid this turmoil, Lauren Olamina emerges as a resilient leader with a visionary mindset. This study explores how emotional intelligence functions as a crucial survival tool in the novel, enabling Lauren to adapt, connect with others, and develop a transformative belief system known as Earthseed. Drawing on Daniel Goleman’s theory, the research focuses on key components of emotional intelligence self-awareness, empathy, motivation, and social skills as expressed through Lauren’s actions and decisions. The paper also demonstrates how emotional intelligence empowers individuals not only to survive but to transform adversity into growth. Through an analysis of Lauren’s psychological depth and emotional responses, the study highlights Butler’s depiction of inner strength as a foundation for community building and healing. Ultimately, the novel suggests that in the absence of traditional support systems, emotional intelligence becomes essential for human continuity and the creation of a hopeful, adaptive future. Additionally, recent Iraqi scholarship has emphasized the role of emotional intelligence in contemporary life.

تصوّر رواية " مثل الزارع " لأوكتافيا بتلر عالماً ديستوبياً تتفكك فيه البيئة والنظام الاجتماعي والقيم الأخلاقية. وسط هذا الانهيار، تبرز لورين أولامينا كقائدة صامدة ذات رؤية مستقبلية. يستكشف هذا البحث دور الذكاء العاطفي كأداة حيوية للبقاء في الرواية، إذ يمكّن لورين من التكيّف، وبناء علاقات مع الآخرين، وتطوير منظومة إيمانية تحويلية تُعرف بـ "بذور الأرض" (Earthseed). وبالاستناد إلى نظرية دانيال غولمان، يركّز البحث على مكونات الذكاء العاطفي الرئيسية مثل الوعي الذاتي، والتعاطف، والدافعية، والمهارات الاجتماعية كما تتجلى في أفعال لورين وقراراتها. كما يوضح البحث كيف يمنح الذكاء العاطفي الأفراد القدرة على تحويل الأزمات إلى فرص للنمو. ومن خلال تحليل العمق النفسي والانفعالات العاطفية للورين، يبرز البحث تصوير بتلر للقوة الداخلية كأساس لبناء المجتمعات والشفاء الجماعي. وتشير الرواية في النهاية إلى أن الذكاء العاطفي، في غياب أنظمة الدعم التقليدية، يصبح ضرورة لاستمرار الإنسانية وبناء مستقبل تكيفي مفعم بالأمل.
