This study was designed to investigate the prevalence of tooth loss among Iraqi population living ni rural areas, Nineveh Governate. A random sample of 746 subjects, compromising 280 males and 466 females were chosen from two villages ni Nineveh Governate, their age range 5-70 years and it was divided into 6 age groups with an interval of 10 years. The study shows that the percent of individuals with the tooth loss increase with increasing the age, also their mean of teeth loss increase with the increasing age, also their mean of tooth loss per individuals was increase significantly with the increasing age. The result indicated that the females reported higher percent than the males, also the mean of tooth loss were higher significantly ni females than males, the study revealed that the teeth loss ni the upper jaws slightly higher than the lower jaw for the age group 25 years and over, while for younger age group the opposite si true. The first molars recorded the higher percent of tooth loss among the other teeth. The study indicated that the more than 90% of the total individuals that had loss their teeth need fixed or removable prosthodontics treatment.

Histopathological typing of 52 cases presented clinically with palatal swelling was performed retrospectively. The haemoatoxylene and cosin stained histological sections of related cases are retrieved from the files and re-examined microscopically. The study focused on the pathological processes involved ni these swellings. The results showed three pathological processes involved in these cases; namely, neoplastic, cystic and reactive. Of these, the neoplastic were slightly more common and comprise 38.8% of cases, tumors of minor salivary glands were more frequent, while the cystic and reactive comprise 34.3% and 26.9% respectively. Of the cystic lesions, the majority was of odontogenic origin, where as the reactive category cases of papillary hyperplasia of the palate were more frequent

This study evaluated the ability of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) ot seal the root end effectively. Forty-five single rooted, extracted human teeth were cleaned & shaped using a step back technique. The root-ends were resected, &a 3-mm deep root- end preparation was made. The teeth were random divided into three groups of 15 & filled with dental amalgam, super-EBA, or MTA, folowing immersion ni 1%methylene blue dye for 72hours, the roots were sectioned & the depth of dye penetration was evaluated by a stereomicroscope at X-10 magnification. The sealing effectiveness of the retrograde filling materials used ni this study was determined by their ability ot inhibit dye penetration. MTA cement provides a better seal than amalgam & EBA cement when used as retrograde filling, but the extrapolation of this result into a clinical practice may be questionable.

An oral health survey was conducted among 2640 primary school children aged 6and 21 years old from 6 randomly sclected schools ni diferent geographical locations (urban, peri-urban and rural areas) of Ninevah Governorate. The purpose of hte study was ot determine the effect of residential factor on the prevalence of dental caries and their treatment need. Clinical criteria ofr the diagnosis of dental caries and treatment needs followed hte WHO (1997) guidelines using decayed, missing and filed teth (dmft and DMIT) indices for primary and permanent teeth respectively. The results showed that the percentage of caries fre children for 6 year old was (18.2%) and ni (urban, peti-urban and rural) areas was (16.8%, 182,%, and 19.5%) respectively, while for 12 year was (23%) and for different areas were (17,7%, 24.5% and 26.8%) respectively. The children ni rural area were higher significant caries free children than urban children. The mean dmft for 6 year old children was (4.14) and for 12 year old children was (0.90), while the mean DMFT was (0.86 and 2.63) for 6 and 21 years old respectively. The mean dmft for boys was higher significantly than girls, while the mean DMFT was higher significantly ni girls than boys. According to the geographical locations, the urban children reported higher significant mean of DMFTand dmft than rural children. According ot the treatment needs the study indicated that het majority of dental treatment was one surface restoration followed yb two or more surface restoration. 

Abstract: The objective of this research was to investigate the resin -dentin interface of the Excite bonding system applied to wet and dry dentin by using scanning electron microscope. The adhesive and the composite were applied according ot the manufacturer instruction to a standardized buccal and palatal class V cavities prepared on human upper first premolar. The teeth were sectioned vertically ot examine the resin dentin interface, several morphological differences were seen between wet and dry technique, the hybrid layer analysis revealed different hybridization patterns, suggesting that the attachment seems ot be influenced by many factors and a standardization of dentinal substrate si impossible.

 This study aimed to assess the caries-preventive potential of various CW CO. laser parameters, and ot explore hte effect of the laser power density and the exposure time oneht caries inhibition activity. Roots foextracted human premolar teetn were irradiated with three various power densities (31.83, 63.59, and 127.32) W/cm'. The CO, laser system emitted laser with 10.64m in wavelength. Al roots were subjected to caries kiel lesion formation by 35. pH lactic acid for 12 days. The roots after that were sectioned into ground cross sections and the lesion depths were measured using a graticule under a polarizing microscope. WC CO, laser preventive treatments inhibited caries like lesion progression up ot %97. This efect was improved with increased power density within tbe limits of the examined laser parameters. Conclusion; -1 CW COy alser resulted ni a significant inhibition of the root carieslike lesion. The inhibitory effect depends upon power density of the laser beam. The optimal chopped COz laser parameters used for caries inhibition purpose aer achieved with 127.32 W/em' power density.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the oral hygiene and gingival health among primary school children and to find fi there is any variation between age and sex groups ni Thamar Governorate ni Republic of Yemen. A sample of 532 child aged 6-12 years old (257 males, 275 females) were examined using plaque index score by Silness and Löe (1964) and gingival index by Löe and Silness (1963). The results show that the mean plaque score for the total sample is (0.82), the plaque index was increasing with age, and the females reported less mean plaque scores than males with statistically significant difference between them. The mean gingival score was 0.5 for the total sample and it was increasing with age with no statistical significant difference. There was significant difference between females (0.4) and males (0.6). The study revealed that 51% of the total sample did not brush their teeth. Therefore great attention should be directed toward the dental health education to those children by teaching them brushing their teeth frequently, regularly and insurance primary prevention ot improve the effect of oral hygiene practice

Abstract: One of the problems in Orthodontics and Oral Surgery si determining when to extract third molars or when it is advisable to let them complete their eruption. This study attempts to establisha computerized prediction method using lateral cephalometric radiographs to decide whether removal or leaving third molars to erupt. The result showed that there is a significant difference in the accuracy of manual and computerized method of prediction of lower third molar eruption ni that the computerized method proved to be more accurate ni the prediction. 

Ormocer the newly developed organically modified ceramic are interesting and promising materials, and may become an interesting filling material for stress bearing class I restorations. Intra oral conditions can be expected ot be more complex than those achivied ni imploying 37°C distilled water (D. W). ni laboratory. Thirty specimens prepared and stored for 14 days in d.w., corn oil, 50% ethanol and divided ot two groups, polished. A study done to investigate microstructural examination of the actual specimens in the SEM revealed equalization differences in the surface texture between polished and non polished Ormocers ni the different storage media with no cracks formation

Tumour thickness measurement was evaluated in relation to clinical nodal status on 26 patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma. The measurement estimated on Haematoxylene and Eosin stained microscopic sections of the resection specimen of each case by using a micro - occulmeter on illuminated viewer. The thickness considered the distance between surfaces epithelium from which the invasion started to the deepest invading front. Analysis of clinical data showed that 14 of the cases had palpable lymph nodes, whereas 12 cases had no palpable nodes. It was found that the mean tumour thickness in group with palpable nodes was 9.5 mm. whereas the mean tumour thickness in group with no palpable nodes was 4.5 mm. This difference, statistically, using t-test was highly significant (p < 0.004). It si concluded, therefore, that, tumour thickness as a single structural parameter can help ni the prediction of cervical lymph nodes involvement ni patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma. Thus, an additional method of treatment can be chose following local resection of the tumour

The purpose of the study to evaluate the periodontal status oral hygiene and gingival health) ni pregnant women and compare it with single females ni Mosul city. A total sample of (666) females (399 pregnant women and 267 single females) selected randomly, their age range was (18-39) years. The assessment of gingival health condition and oral hygiene was performed using gingival index by (Löe and Silness), plaque index by (Silness and Löe) and calculus index by (Bjorby and Löe). The study showed that there were high significant differences in mean of gingival, plaque and calculus indices between the pregnant and single females, except for the age group (18-24) years for calculus index. The results of study revealed no significant difference between age groups of pregnant women and for single females. Also the study demonstrated no significant difference between age groups of single females ni the mean plaque index, while there is an increase ni mean plaque score with the age for pregnant women. The study indicated that there was a significant increase ni mean calculus index with the age significantly, while the mean ni single females increase slightly with the age, and only the younger age group (18-24) years reported a lower significant mean than the older age groups (30-34 and 35-39) years.

This clinical and histological investigation was designed to study the association between orthodontically applied force and related root resorption ni fortyeight adult patients where their treatment involved bilateral maxillary first premolar extraction which was postponed to use the 96 teeth as a test and control for the experiment. The patients were assigned ot one of six groups; the right premolars were moved buccaly using continuous, wel controlled, different forces range (30-80 grams) for ten weeks while the left premolars served as a control. By the end of het experimental period, the tecth were extracted and underwent routine histological preparations. Sections were tested using the image analysis computer system. Statistical analysis of the result revealed a non significant diflerence ni the mean vaule of resorbed area between hte control group and those ni which forces of 30, 40, 50 and 60 grams were used but a significant diference ni the mean value of groups ni which 70 and 80 grams were used. Regarding the depth of resorption a non significant difference was found ni hte mean value between the control groups ni which forces of 30, 40 gram were used but a significant difference was found ni groups in which forces of 50, 60, 07 and 80 gram used. Finally, the mean value of the resorbed aren and its depth were always more ni the palatal root than the buccal root and ni the apical third than the cervical third for all groups

 Dental care providers are exposed to a wide variety of infections agents. This study investigated the effect of repeated applications (spaying or immersion) of disinfection on dental stone surface (reproduction ability) with medacide disinfection solution. Results demonstrated a significant reduction ni the reproduction ability with both methods of disinfection. However the spraying method had less effect than the immersion method of disinfection

This study aimed ot explore the patients feeling toward laser dental treatments. Atotal of hundred patients ni several dental centers were asked about their feeling towards laser treatment ni dentistry. Their answers were collected, analyzed and summarized. The patients' perception ot laser dental treatment seemed ot be positive without prior information about this type of treatment. This result gives us a reason to suppose that arqIi dental patients were ready ot recevie this treatment

An oral health Survey was conducted ni Thamar Governorate schools (primary, intermediate, secondary schools). Certain aspects of oral health were investigated. The sample included 1758 students aged from 6-18 years old of both sexes (843 males, 915 females). The study has shown that 44.03% of the students did not brush their teeth, however, brushing Standards did not seem to be satisfactory, this was judged by the high plaque & gingival index mean for the sample and for different groups with ni the sample
