Abstract
The present study employs the critical discursive strategies to examine news coverage of Israeli-Arab normalization in Al-Jazeera reports, The primary aims of this study are: (1) the way Al-Jazeera channel utilizes the discursive strategies in presenting the news regarding normalization. (2) Investigating the discursive strategy that is widely used in Al-Jazeera reports. The paper proposes the following hypotheses; (1) Al-Jazeera uses the discursive strategies in a negative way only to address Israel and normalization. (2) The norm and value violation is the mostly used strategy in the selected reports. The main conclusion that this paper reached at are: (1) Al-Jazeera utilizes prominently a range of discursive strategies to negatively portray Israel and normalization via (norm & value violation, negative lexicalization, warning and negative comparison) and positively portray the Palestinian cause via (compassion move, hyperbole, concretization and generalization). (2) Negative lexicalization is the widely used strategy in Al-Jazeera reports as it negatively addresses Israel as "Zionist" and normalization as "betrayal" repeatedly.
