Linear motor offers several features in many applications that require linear motion. Nevertheless, the presence of cogging force can deteriorate the thrust of a permanent magnet linear motor. Using several methodologies, a design of synchronous single sided linear iron-core motor was proposed. According to exact formulas with surface-mounted magnets and concentrated winding specification, which are relying on geometrical parameters. Two-dimensional performance analysis of the designed model and its multi-objective optimization were accomplished as a method to reduce the motor cogging force using MAXWELL ANSYS. The optimum model design results showed that the maximum force ripple was approximatrly reduced by 81.24%compared to the original model with a smaller ripple coefficient of 0.22. Likewise, the model was redesigned taking into consideration two cases; laminated core and solid core. It was found that the error between the analytical and numerical results of the output force did not exceed 0.0967%.

This study focuses on the implementation of interfaces for human machine interaction (HMI) control and monitor automatic production line. The automatic production line can performance feeding, transportation, sorting functions. The objectives of this study are implemented two SCADA/HMI system using two different software. TIA portal software is used to build HMI, alarm, and trends in touch panel which is helped an operator to control and monitor the production line. LabVIEW software is used to build HMI and trends in the computer screen and is linked with Microsoft Excel (ME) to generate information table helped to monitor the performance of the pneumatic equipment. The production line can do performance feeding, transportation, sorting functions, is designed and simulated in FACTORY IO software and implemented. S7-1200 PLC employed to control the automatic production line using ladder logic diagram on TIA PORTAL V13 software. Two methods are adopted to create Human Machine Interface (HMI) for monitoring the status of the system (touch panel interface and LabVIEW interface). The communication between master program TIA PORTAL V15 software and slave program LABVIEW is through OLE Process Control (OPC) service. OPC offers greater flexibility and lower costs of development, integration, and assembly for controlling and monitoring the industrial process, as well as OPC involves a wide variety of data resource. As a result, the realized system enables two human interfaces for controlling and monitoring the physical values of the pneumatic system processes and parameters. In addition, it provides a way for different software packages to access values from control device (PLC) assisting to monitor the performance of the pneumatic equipment. The implemented system can be applied the laboratory for reducing the distance between theoretical knowledge and practical applications for engineering students. It plays a significant role in developing the ability of innovation and practical application. furthermore, the implemented system of the production line is a prototype with an actual production situation which is very close to the actual environment control process in the factory.

Hot-wire cutting is one of the important, non-traditional thermomechanical way to cut polymer, usually expanded foam and extruded foam, in low volume manufacturing. The study and analysis of Hot-Wire cutting parameters play an important role to enhance the quality and accuracy of the process and products. The effects on the surface have been investigated by using experimental tests designed according to the Taguchi orthogonal array (OA). In this study, four parameters with five levels for each parameter have been used: [temperature of wire (A) (100, 120, 130, 150, 160) °C], [diameter of wire (B) (0.3,0.4,0.5,0.7,0.8) mm], [velocity of cutting (C) (200, 300,400,500,600) mm/min], [and density of foam (D) (0.01,0.027,0.029,0.032,0.037) g/cm3]. Statistical software (MINITAB17) used to find the optimum conditions, which they are in Material Removal: 100 ˚C, 0.5 mm, 300mm/min, 0.032 g/cm3.

The first studies on shocks and vibrations were carried out at the beginning of the 1930s to improve the behavior of buildings during earthquakes. Vibration tests on aircraft were developed from 1940 to verify the resistance of parts and equipments prior to their first use. Flutter is a well-known example of dynamic aero elasticity, where when oscillation of structure interacted with unsteady aerodynamic forces the flutter will occur. Vibration on any structure without damping means that self-harmonic oscillation will occur, and in most cases the oscillation may start to increase until structural failure. This behavior is very similar to resonance phenomena if only the oscillation is being studied as a vibration case. In vibration suppression, the active vibration control is one of the more effective technique which is used for attenuating bad effects of disturbances on structure. In this work, two different composite wings have been used; one of them is made of Glass-fiber random matt and the other is made of woven ({0/90} Glass-fiber). The proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control is employed here for studying the suppression of active vibration wing affected by wind velocity flow through wind tunnel in the laboratory of mechanical engineering department at the university of Baghdad. Piezoelectric (PZT (transducers are used as sensors and actuators in vibration control systems. The attack angle was 10 degrees and three different velocities (15, 20, 35 m/s) have been taken to show their effect on the wings vibrations suppression. Is noticed that the suppression of the wing amplitude is reduced when the wind velocity increases for both woven and random composite wing matt. This is happened due to the vortex which has became more violent with the increase in wind velocity. It is concluded that the composite woven wing has high resistance more than the composite random wing. Also, the maximum control amplitude of woven matt is 1.9 cm and the damping is about 33% at 25 m/s wind velocity while the amplitude is 2.22 cm and the damping is about 53% at 10 m/s wind velocity for random wing.

The traction property is one of the important mechanical properties, especially the rotary parts which are subjected to constant and variable loads There are many methods used to improve this property, and the shoot peening by metal balls is considered the most critical one. the study focuses on this characteristic of steel CK35 used in many engineering applications as the rotating shafts and railway This study shows that the fatigue strength is improved by14% after shoot peening with metal balls. The study includs the rehabilitation of damaged samples as a result of fatigue corrosion. The standard solution adopted was 36% MgCl¬2 with a 30 days immersion period. These samples has been improved by 6% after it decreased by18% due to immersion in the alkaline solution.

This work studies with produce of light fuel fractions of gasoline, kerosene and gas oil from treatment of residual matter that will be obtained from the solvent extraction process as by product from refined lubricate to improve oil viscosity index in any petroleum refinery. The percentage of this byproduct is approximately 10% according to all feed (crude oil) in the petroleum refinery process. The objective of this research is to study the effect of the residence time parameter on the thermal cracking process of the byproduct feed at a constant temperature, (400 °C). The first step of this treatment is the thermal cracking of this byproduct material by a constructed batch reactor occupied with control device at a selective range of residence time (duration of the reaction) 30, 45, 60 and 75 minutes respectively at a constant temperature (400 °C). The conversion of this byproduct by thermal cracking process reaches 90% for all these residence times. The second step for this study is distillation this cracked extract liquid by atmospheric distillation device, for these various residence times according to the ASTM-D86 method, to obtain light fuel fractions of gasoline, kerosene and gas oil,in volume percentages 15, 75 and 0 for residence time 30, 5, 60 and 25, for residence time 45, 5, 10, 75, for residence time 60 and (10, 60 and 20) for residence time 75, which separates according to its boiling point. The major physical and chemical properties for feed (extract phase) and cracking extract liquid with its light fuel fractions were experimentally calculated and the results refer to acceptable properties compared with other standard property.

In this study, sawdust as a cheap method and abundant raw material was utilized to produce active carbon (SDAC). Physiochemical activation was utilized where potassium hydroxide used as a chemical activating agent and carbon dioxide was used as a physical activating agent. Taguchi method of experimental design was used to find the optimum conditions of SDAC production. The produced SDAC was characterized using SEM to investigate surface morphology and BET to estimate the specific surface area. SDAC was used in aqueous lead ions adsorption. Adsorption process was modeled statistically and represented by an empirical model. The highest specific surface area of SDAC was 688.3 m2/gm. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms were used to fit the adsorption process, where equilibrium data was best represented by Langmuir isotherm model. Pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order equations were used to study adsorption kinetics, lead adsorption on SDAC fitted pseudo- second order more adequately. Best removal efficiency was found to be 99.63% with highest adsorption capacity of 19.92 mg/g.

In this work, the effect of the addition of bright nickel plating and silver carried out by the electroplating method has been studied, on the coating of copper nanoparticles on the copper base metal via the process of thermal evaporation. The improvement of the solar absorber using CuNP in combination with the bright nickel and silver was obtained to be better than copper nanoparticles individually. A bright nickel enhanced the absorbed thermal stability. Also, other optical properties, absorptions, and emissivity slightly decreased from (93% to 87%), while the existence of silver had a slight impact on absorption of about (86.50%). On the other hand, thermal conductivity was evaluated using hot disk analyzer. The results showed a good improvement obtained by copper nanoparticles of about (89%) deposited on the copper substrate, while it decreased with 18.8% in the presence of bright nickel combined with copper nanoparticles. The other characteristics, like structure and phases of coating layers, were achieved using X-ray diffraction. Topographic maps were obtained using an Atomic Force Microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope.

The surface finish of the machining part is the mostly important characteristics of products quality and its indispensable customers’ requirement. Taguchi robust parameters designs for optimizing for surface finish in turning of 7025 AL-Alloy using carbide cutting tool has been utilized in this paper. Three machining variables namely; the machining speeds (1600, 1900, and 2200) rpm, depth of cut (0.25, 0.50, 0.75) mm and the feed rates (0.12, 0.18, 0.24) mm/min utilized in the experiments. The other variables were considered as constants. The mean surface finish was utilized as a measuring of surface quality. The results clarified that increasing the speeds reduce the surface roughness, while it rises with increasing the depths and feeds. Using the analysis of variance, it found that the most effective variable is cutting speed with (53.85%) and the depths has the smallest influence with (20.09%). The data set from the experiments was appointed for implementing the optimum procedure, depending on the principle of Taguchi way. The result of calculation with the experimental outcome was in good agreement.

The aim of this work is to provide an efficient selection technique as a part of planning process to guide the decision makers to decide the preferences of one supplier over another for purchasing lab instruments in education domain. Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process has used as a multi-criteria decision process, as an industrial engineering tool with certain emphasis on the qualitative aspects required to the decision makers. While the concept of degree of possibility for each criterion is used to reach its relative weights, a specific methodology created to reach the final objective decision of supplier selection. A questionnaire form was developed and distributed to five universities located in Baghdad province with a total number of 100 questionnaires. The response was very adequate. Three main criteria are adopted- supplier, instruments and service performance grade. Moreover, there are sixteen sub-criteria for evaluating three potential suppliers. The final decision is reached with almost risk-free as it relates to the qualitative aspects of experts. The conclusion reached is that local supplier has a large priority weight. Microsoft Excel is used to achieve the sequential calculations for Fuzzy AHP.
