The platelet activity and some immunological aspects of

coronary heart disease CIID were investigated by employing platelet count and serum levels of IgG,IgM and lgA,C3 and C4.Three groups of patients were investigated : patients with ischemic heart disease IHD, patients with lliD+hypcrtension and patients with IHD+unstable angina.The results revealed that the mean of platelets (mm') was significantly reduced in IHD+unstable angina group

2.72.L I.l2 compared with conrol b'TOUp 8.13±2.72.

With respect to the immunological study, the re;;ults revealed that lgG level (mg/dl) was significantly reduced in UIDhypertension group 1113.70±8.81 and in LHD+unstable angina 857.85±17.78

compared with control group 1279.33±22.2S.The same effect was observed on IgM,in IHOgroup, the mean was 114.47±4.40 and in UID+hypertension group was 122.1 0±5.32 compared with control group 177.25±4.86.The mean of complement component C3 was significantly increased in IHD+ hypertension group 197.92.%6.56, also in IHD+unstable angina group 150.750±1 0.78 compared wih control group I 02.79±I0.38.

The effect of crude colicin extracted from E. coli isolated from

urinary tract infection patients on phagocytosis in vitro was studied . Results showed that the effect of crude colicin on phagocytic cells and their activities were concentration dependent. Low concentration (50

Mg/ml) have no significant effect (p>O.OS) on shape, size, migration and engulfment activity of phagocytic cells, while (50, 100 Mg/ml)



enhanced killing activity and increase superoxide ( 02 ) production as indicated by (NBT) test. But high concentration (500 mg/ml) of crude colicin caused inhibition of phagocytic cells activities, that leads to inhibition in non-spesfic immunity.

A total of 243 serum samples were tested for the presence of

Chlamydia antibodies by ind irect immunofluorescent antibody test.Ninety

nine females were suffering from abortions, 64 were infertile and other 80 were none aborted women. The incidence of Ch lamydia were (15%,

9.4%) and (3.8%) in abortion, infertile and non aborted group,

respecti vely. The results also showed a difference in prevalence rate between the age groups. The highest incidence was found in the age group 20-39 years. Levels of inununolobu lines (1gG, JgM) were also detenn i ned to identify a high positi ve titer of these chosen samples.

For the first time in Iraq, the crustacean Ergasilus ogawai Kabata,

1992 was recorded from the gills of Silurus triostegus, Mastacembelus mastacembelus, Mystus pelusius and Acanthopagrus latus out of 12 fish species caught from Garmat Ali river north of Basrah city during the period from September 1999 till August 2000. The percentage incidence of infestations of these four fish species were 98.9%, 100%,

49.6% and 71.4% while the intensity of infestations were 417, 81.8,

3.4 and 2, respectively. No significant differences in infestations of

male and female hosts with this crustacean were detected

The effect of water stress induced by using polyethylene glycol (PEG-6000) on germination of seeds and growth of seedlings of Silybum marianum was studied. Two concentrations of PEG were used to get two water stresses (-0.4 & -0.8 bar) as well as the control for comparison. The results showed a significant decrease (P<0.05) in germination ratio compared with the control. The ratio did not slow down to less than 50% which indicates the ability of the seeds to resist water stress to some extent. Also, a significant decrease (P<0.05) in the length of shoot and root was observed compared with the control. This plant showed an ability to recover when the water stress was broken and the shoot recovery was larger to some extent than the root

The experiment was conducted to study the effect of

antigibberellin Cultar , Ethephon and GA3 at concentration of (5,15,25 ppm) on surface growth of Rhizoctiona solani and Fusraium oxysporum . The results indicated that Cultar (15 , 25 ppm) decreased the surface growth of both fungi . Ethephon of the same concentration significantly reduced the growth of Fusarium oxysporum . The number of sclerotia of Rhizoctiona solani was reduced by Cultar and GA3 at (15 ,25 ppm).

The present study includes a morphological investigation to

the plant specimens of the genus Trachomitum which assembling by one species in Iraq it is T venetum (L.) Woodson. The specimens in

the Iraqi herbaria and that which is collected for the first time from new locations. After a detail and specific investigation for all the

characteristic features, and according to the obvious variations between different parts of the plants we can identify the specimens of the species .T venetum into three subspecies which are subsp. armenum, subsp. scabrum and subsp. sarmatiense . The two previous subspecies were described and recorded in the first time for Iraq. There is a diagram for each taxon.

The present work included new information about pollen of eighteen Spp. of Stachys L. in Iraq ;showed their importance in diagnostsis.

Pollen shapes in equatorial view were ellipsoid in most spp .and spherical - subspherical , spherical - subprolate and subprolate -

ellipsoid in others; while they were spherical - subspherical in polar

view . Pollen was tricolpate except St.iberica M.B.georgica Rech.f. &

Ten. Which has tetracolpate and that was new for the genus.

The smallest pollen were seen in St.kotschyi Boiss. & Hohen. but the biggest were in St.benthamiana Boiss

hematological and biochemical paramenters in male and female. The results have shown significant decrease in Hemoglobin concentration, packed cell volume, white blood cell count and platelet count. Benthic invertebrates' diversity and some physical a:1d

chemical characteristics in Lower Zab tributary and Tigris River were studied. Month l y samples were col l ected from November 2001 to October 2002.

The rt:sLllts of the present study showed the turbidity iu Tigris river

before the confluence to be higher (34.4 NTU) compared to the other stations. Mean salinity was greater in Lower Zab tributary (0.33 %) compared to that in the river. Lower Zab tJibutary and Tigris River were good in Oxygen content, and a high dissolved oxygen value was recorded (7.9 mg/L) in Lower Zab tributary.

31 benthic invertebrate species were identified, 14 of which were

arthropods. 8 species from both of the Ol igochacta and Mollusca .One single species was identi fled from the Nemathelminthes. Species diversity varied from 1.9 in Lower Zab tributary to 2.7 in Tigris River after the conll uence. The h ighest species density was recorded in Tigris River after the confluence was 359.1 indlnl while the lowest species density was 12.74 ind/nl in Lower Zab tributary

To evaluate the effects of the thermal analysis and temperature of the atmospheric heat on the optical system. it varying the thermal expansion (positive or Negative Values) of the material and then changes the characteri of the optical system properties such as radius of curvetur of the surfaces, size of the aperture stop ect.

This paper had calculated the accepted ratio of the temperature variable on the optical system during analyzing the effect of thermal analysis on the Radial Energy Distribution for +20C0 and +50C0 •

Thin films of BhSe3 have being deposited on glass substrates of

about 80 - 172 ± 14 nm thickness from an aqueous solution bath at temperature 293 K for period 0.5 to 6.0 hours using alchemical bath deposition method .

The films are characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray

florescent techniques and optical transmittance spectra measurements in the rang 350 - 400 nm at 293 K. And shows that as deposited films are amorphous and a transition to polycrystalline state has taken place after annealing them at 373 K, for 30 minutes, But they will be dan1aged at 423 K, for the above period. The optical band gab of the films have been found about 1.55 to 1.50 eV as deposited time is increased from 0.5 to 6.0 hours with a direct allowed type transition.

2 ml. of hydrazine hydrate is added to the aqueous solution bath, the

thickness of the deposited films is found to increase continuously with an increase in dipping period up to 6 hours and it lead to decrease the deposition time for obtaining a sample of special thickness. Also the magnitude of band gap is decrease to 1.41-1.38 eV for the above periods of time.

Interacting boson model version one has been used in the present

theoretical calculations. The energy levels & their transitions for dynamical symmetry 0(6), SU(3), U(5), ground-state band, Beta­ band, Gamma band, B(E2), Ot, B(Ml), ,u,gt and 6(£2/Ml)have been calculated to deduce the limit of Pt-198, Z=78. The present results confirmed the nuclear behavior of this isotope lay in the

transitional region 0(6), SU(3) U(5). The calculations of 021 + & 022+

showed that the shape of this isotope is oblate according to Q21+ and prolate according to 022+.

Most of our results are in good agreement with the available

experimental results.

Neutral and semi-synthetic hydrophilic polymers are widely used

in pharmaceutical technology to fomlUlate as controlled release drugs

delivery systems ,cellulose derivatives is biocompatibilily, biodegradability , non-toxicity, its is a good candidate as drug carrier. In this study, polymers were used as cellulose derivatives like Methylcellulose (MC) & Soditun Carboxymetl1ylcellulose (NaCMC) as hydrogels for controlled delivery for two kinds of drugs, Cefotaxine

& Amoxycill ine trihydrate i n different media (Distilled water, Normal Saline & Buffer solution PH=2). It has been shown that for sodium Carboxymethylcellulnse the drug release rate is more than the Mcthylcellulose and that the release rate for Amoxycilli ne trihydratc is more than Cefotaxine.

A study on solvent extraction of Tellurium with Anthranilic acid in

water has been made. The effect of different parameters such as type of medium, time of equilibration, concentration of metal ion, solvent polarity and effect of anions and catins distribution ratio of tellrim (IV) were evaluated. The stoichometric ratio of the extracted species is determined by using two methods suh as slope analysis and mole ratio method and found to be (M: L) (1:4). The instability constant of complex was calculated as well.

In this work , a hybrid scheme tor Arabic speech for the recognition

of the speaker verification is presented . The scheme is hybrid as utilizes the traditional digi tal signal processi ng and neural network . Kohonen neural network has been used as a recognizer tor speaker verification after extract spectral features from an acoustic signal by Fast Fourier Transformation Algorithm(FFT) .

The system was im plemented using a PENTIUM processor , I000

MHZ compatible and MS-dos 6.2 .

The present research is aimed to know the levels of geometrical thinking of college of education " Ibn Al Haitham students I second class" . The sample of the research consists of ( 50 ) male & female students , that were chosen randomly during the academic year 2002-2003 .

To verify the aim of the study , the researcher reviewed the previous cognitive literature , and limited his study to the ( comprehending analytic , ordinal , and inferential ) levels of geometrical thinking .

He constructed a test that was consisted of ( 25 ) items . The test was

presented to a committee of experts in mathematics and methods of teaching math . to assure its validity . The committee agreed on all test items .

A pilot sample consisting of (20) male & female students was chosen from the research population to confmn the reliability of the test . The researcher used anumber of statistical means to analyze data, one of them was building .

The results of the research showed a· clear weakness in the levels of

geometrical thinking among the research sample and according to this result, there is a need for further research and concern on quality of teaching geometries . This subject develops all levels of geometrical thinking . These results determine that students were not mastering the basic geometrical concepts , although most of those concepts are considered a basic request for the academic level that was chosen for this study .The researcher stated many recommendations one of them was to improve the quality of teaching geometries with construction on its different features that develop levels of different geometrical thinking .The researcher suggested more researches in this field to be conducted and using samples from different level samples of students

Inspite of the renovation and development that occurred on the

mathematics curricula and its teaching styles (methods), the teaching methods and the evaluation styles that the teachers of the country

follow are still traditionaL It depends on the normal distribution approach and the principle of individual differences among students in

addition the traditional tests that are used to evaluate student achievement are built on standard-referenced system. These types of tests focus on comparing the student's performance with his peers'

performance. The limitary of this type of evaluation in diagnosing the

students' acquisition of the study content is clarified, because it focuses on what the student achieves on the light of his peers' standards and not the mastery standard that it is required to be achieved. Also, it neglects the diagnosis and remediation of the

learning weaknesses of that content. In order to remediate the weaknesses in this system the criterion-referenced measurement were suggested. It focuses on the diagnosis and measurement of what the students have accomplished, on knowledge and skills, on the light of specified criteria for performance that are agreed on previously.There are many specialists' attempts on designing and constructing criterion­ referenced tests in different subjects such as mathematics to improve the learning-teaching process, and to classify students to masterly and non masterly students, and then remediate the weak points of the non masterly students. However, the researcher noted that there is a shortage of studies relevance to these tests on,Teaching mathematics in this country.
