A Review of the Asphalt Mixtures Containing Recycled Solid Waste Materials

Abstract

This study reviews the properties and performance of asphalt mixtures containing recycled PET and glass waste as fillers, partial replacements for fine aggregates, and binder modifiers. The mixtures showed positive results, meeting standard specifications. The review highlights the potential of using recycled materials in asphalt pavements to reduce environmental pollution and landfill use.

Abstract

This study investigates the conjugate heat transfer of laminar air flow in rectangular mini channels using commercial CFD software “ANSYS FLUENT.” The research focuses on the influence of wall thickness and thermal conductivity on heat transfer characteristics such as temperature profile and Nusselt number. The results demonstrate that higher thermal conductivities and larger wall thicknesses significantly impact the heat transfer, flattening the wall temperature distribution and reducing the local Nusselt number.

Abstract

This paper aims to identify and assess the importance of risk factors in the tendering phase of construction projects. A questionnaire for likelihood and impact was designed and distributed to a panel of specialists to analyze risk factors. The risk matrix was used to explore and identify risks influencing the tendering phase. Probability and impact values were assigned to calculate the risk score, creating a risk matrix by combining these criteria. The study identified four main risk groups and twenty-two sub-risk factors appropriate for the tendering phase of construction projects in Iraq.

Abstract

This article aims to establish and evaluate standards for critical equipment and materials in highway projects in Iraq. The Delphi technique was used to analyze, explore, and discover the main criteria and sub-criteria that affect equipment and materials in highway construction projects. A program (IBM, SPSS/V25) was used to assess the main criteria and sub-criteria using the mean score (MS) and standard deviation (SD) technique, as well as to check reliability using Cronbach's alpha factor (α). The study identified fifteen (15) successful criteria in equipment and materials in highway construction projects in Iraq.

Abstract

This experimental study investigates the use of stone powder as a stabilizer for clayey soil. Tests included Atterberg limits, compaction, fall cone test (FCT), laboratory vane shear test (LVT), and expansion index (EI). Mixtures with fixed ratios of stone powder (0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%) by dry weight were tested. Results showed increased undrained shear strength and reduced expansion index with higher stone powder content.

Abstract

This paper evaluates the drinking water quality of the AL-Muthana project using the Water Quality Index (WQI) method. The project has a design capacity of 40,000 m³/day and uses traditional units to treat raw water. The evaluation was based on parameters such as turbidity, total dissolved solids (TDS), total hardness (TH), sulfate (SO₄), nitrite (NO₂), nitrate (NO₃), chloride (Cl), magnesium (Mg), and calcium (Ca)1. The results indicated that the drinking water quality falls within the second category of WHO standards (86.658%), but the first category was not met due to design and operational defects, and the absence of soluble salt removal units
