Abstract
This research concerns the study of crack growth in the wall of pipes made of low carbon steel under impact load and the effect of moisture (rate of moisture 50%). The environmental conditions were controlled using high accuracy digital control with sensors. The pipe already had a crack. The test was performed on two types of specimens, one with a length of 100 cm and the other with a length of 50 cm. The results showed that when humidity was applied to the pipe, the crack growth was enhanced (i.e., the number of cycles needed to grow the crack was reduced). Additionally, when the test was performed on the specimens of length 50 cm, the number of cycles needed to grow the crack increased due to the effect of bending stress on the pipes.
