The smart street-lighting system (SSLS) is a leading candidate in the smart city. By the time of the last 15 cycles, many meaningful improvements have been executed in the SSLS with the impact of the internet of things technologies and universal networking devices. Conventional smart street lighting systems are restricted to wireless sensor networks, mobile devices, and old lighting control systems. This article presents a comprehensive treatment of network designs, namely communication, control, and wireless sensor-based smart street lighting system by deploying based on their existing system architecture, and network topologies including leading with it a host of privileges. In addition, choosing the right lighting class, high-intensity discharge (HID) lights, and retrofitting lighting technologies have all been covered in detail. This paper's objective is to evaluate various control technologies that may support the many applications deployed on networked streetlights. Moreover, issues and recommendations, distinguished in this paper, will pave the route for future smart street lighting systems that promote a reliable and seamless driving experience and are energy-efficient for environmental sustainability. It is far anticipated that LoRa and Sigfox with additional gateways could be the best possible smart street lighting system options as these technologies are facilitated for long distances but with a limited data rate. It is way more suitable for lighting control compared to other protocols to control thousands of streetlights.

The purpose of the study is to inhibit the corrosion rate using the (LSP) laser shock processing technology with an ND-YAG laser utilizing the Q-switched technique with a wavelength of 1046 nm for stainless steel 304 alloy. Laser shock processing (LSP) is a novel surface treatment approach for strengthening metal materials that use a high peak power, a brief pulse, and cold hardening. The laser parameters’ effect includes laser pulse energy and pulse repetition rate on the surface properties. The qualities of sample surfaces were investigated, including surface roughness and micro-hardness. The X-ray fluorescence technique was used to analyze the chemical composition of this alloy. The corrosion rate was measured using the polarization method. In particular, pitting corrosion was the option we picked. According to the findings, laser shock processing appears to considerably boost the micro-hardness of the LSP-treated sample. The corrosion causes a decrease in the rate. The result revealed that the corrosion current density was decreased, and the corrosion potential was shifted when the laser pulse energy and the pulse repetition rate were increased. When the laser energy was 920 mj and the pulse repetition rate was 6 Hz, we discovered the lowest rate of corrosion. Digital images are usually achieved by changing continuous signals to digital format. Many factors can affect the quality of an image, such as knowledge requirements, causing noise, low contrast, and badly-defined boundaries, among others. Specifically, we compared the results with those of the image processing.

This paper demonstrates three SAW configurations' electrical and mechanical behaviors: a one-port resonator, a two-port resonator, and a delay line that works as temperature sensors of around 440 MHz characteristic frequencies. We investigate the sensitivity of the sensors for temperatures up to 200℃. A linear behavior of the frequency shift versus temperature is observed; the resulting sensitivity of the sensors is evaluated at 22.74 ppm/°C for the one-port resonator, 23.17 for the two-port resonator, and 3.83 ns/°C for the delay line structure. The electromechanical coupling coefficient (k2) is 0.492% for the delay line, 0.489% for the one-port resonator, and 0.55% for the two-port resonator. The quality factor QFactor calculated from Y11 electrical input admittance is 2858 for the one-port resonator, 2977 for the delay line, and 2903 for the two-port resonator. The optimized piezoelectric layer thickness value, for the one port resonator, is hAlN=1.5μm.

Underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) systems have been identified as a suitable replacement technology with high data rates over relatively medium transmission ranges for underwater communication. In the research, we propose a new optical hybrid modulation format for carrying the letters over underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) system. This hybrid modulation format combines pulse position modulation (PPM) with digital pulse interval modulation (DPIM) to increase the transporting speed. The proposed UWOC system is experimentally investigated in the laboratory over a clean and turbulent water channel. The message was electrically modulated in the transmitter with PPM-DPIM format and then applied to a laser diode. The laser diode emitted light at a wavelength of 650 nm with a power of 60 mW. At the receiver, the photodiode, with its amplifier circuits, sends the received signal to the microprocessor to restore the origin message. The results showed that the received power and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) decreased with elongating the transmission distance. In addition, the attenuation is raised with increasing distance. The bubbles source is also situated at distances of 25 cm, 50 cm, and 75 cm from the transmitter in turbulent waters. The results showed that locating the bubble source decreases the system's performance. The best results were obtained when the bubble source was 75 cm away from the transmitter. Finally, the hybrid modulation formats (PPM-DPIM) can increase the speed of letter transmission, reduce the bit error rate (BER), and minimize the effect of scattering and attenuation in water channels.

This paper presents the implementations of the hyperbolic sine and cosine functions, which are essential in many digital systems. In the previous eras, these functions were only implemented in software; however, hardware implementations have recently become more significant due to the performance advantages of hardware systems over software implementations. Therefore, these functions can be hardware implemented using various methods such as the CORDIC algorithm, Taylor series, polynomial approximation technique, and LUT approach. This paper focuses on reducing area utilization (logic components), low latency, and reducing power consumption. Five designs are proposed based on different techniques, in which the ROM approach achieved the best results compared to the other four proposed designs. It also achieved low area utilization, high speed and low power consumption compared to the related works where the ROM approach consumes the resource utilization are as follows: zero flip-flops, (26) occupied slices, and (43) look-up tables. The total power consumed is about (56 mW), and there is a high execution speed of one clock cycle.

Speech recognition is widely used in robot control and automation. Nevertheless, the use of speech recognition in robots is limited due to its susceptibility to background noise. This paper proposes a speech recognition algorithm to control robots in noisy environments. The proposed algorithm is based on Perceptual Linear Predictive Cepstral Coefficients (PNCC), which is a noise-resistant feature extraction technique, and Modified K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) with Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) as the classifier. A new KNN-DTW classifier is proposed, integrating weighted KNN and DTW. The proposed algorithm results from experiments comparing PNCC and Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) feature extraction techniques with different classifiers, namely KNN-DTW, two types of KNN (weighted KNN and Medium-KNN), and two types of Support Vector Machine SVM (Linear SVM and Quadratic SVM). The database used to investigate the accuracy was the audio-visual data corpus database UOTletters, which includes 30 speakers, 26 English letters, and 1560 utterances. The database is divided into 50% for training and 50% for testing purposes. In a noise-free environment, the accuracy of the proposed algorithm reached 100%. Moreover, the proposed algorithm demonstrates greater noise immunity across all five noise levels, with an average accuracy difference of 13.67% compared to baseline algorithms.

This paper investigates the behavior of four bus grid-connected systems during different types of faults. The microgrid comprises a utility grid, a solar PV energy system, a diesel generator, and a load. Symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults at the microgrid distribution network were studied. These faults were applied at the solar PV bus under constant irradiance and temperature. The active and reactive power from the solar PV was synchronized based on the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) solar inverter. The total harmonic distortion (THD) for the load current response was also measured for each symmetrical and unsymmetrical fault. A protection system was strategically located based on specific constraints, such as fault location and detection. The simulation results were categorized into two scenarios: normal and abnormal conditions during faults in the distribution lines. The obtained results revealed significant differences in fault currents depending on the type of fault, which consequently influenced the selection of the appropriate protection system. The operation mode of the microgrid, whether in isolated or microgrid-connected mode, varied according to the fault type. Furthermore, the THD value of the load current exhibited a substantial increase during fault conditions. MATLAB/Simulink was utilized for conducting all the simulations
