This work focused on principle of higher order mode excitation using in- line Double Clad Multi-Mode Mach-Zehnder Interferometer (DC-MM-MZI). The DC-MM-MZI was designed with 50 cm etched MMF. The etching length is 5cm. The tenability of this interferometer was studied using opt grating ver.4.2.2 and optiwave ver. 7 simulator. After removing (25, 35, 45, 55) μm from MMF and immersing this segment of MMF with water bath contained distilled water and ethanol, in addition to, air. Pulsed laser source centered at 1546.7nm ,pulse width 10ns and peak power 1.33mW was propagated via this interferometer Maximum modes were obtained in case of air surrounded media which are 9800 and 25 um removed cladding layer, with peak power 49.800 mW, FWHM 192 pm, and the transmitted laser was blue shifted with central wavelength λc 1547.193 nm.

In this paper, tunable optical band-pass filters based on Polarization Maintaining Fiber –Mach Zehnder Interferometer presented. Tunability of the band-pass filter implemented by applying different mechanical forces N on the micro-cavities splicing regions (MCSRs). The micro-cavity formed by using three variable-lengths of single-mode polarization-maintaining fiber with (8, 16, 24) cm lengths, splice between two segments of (SMF-28) with (26, 13) cm lengths, using the fusion splicing technique. Ellipsoidal shape micro-cavities experimentally achieved parallel to the propagation axis having dimensions between (12-24) μm of width and (4-12) μm of length. A micro-cavity with width and length as high as 24 μm and 12 μm have higher sensitivity of 0.00115 μԐ when 0.098 N applied to the micro-cavity splicing region. And full width half maximum was obtained 251.584 pm when polarization-maintaining fiber length was 16 cm after applied 0.49N on the micro-cavity splicing region. The pulsed laser source used in this experiment has peak power 1.2297mW, 286 pm spatial FWHM, and centered at 1546.7 nm.

Surface treatment of machined dental zirconia for enhancement of the adhesion to resin cement, using Er,Cr:YSGG Laser. Materials and Methods: Total number of 42 zirconia disc specimens (9 mm diameter, and 2 mm height) was sintered according to the manufacturer instruction. They are divided into six groups, each group of seven samples. Laser groups (Experiment parameters) were depend on laser total irradiation time, pulse duration, and power. Group (A): 20 sec., 60 μs pulse duration. Group (B): 30 sec., 60 μs pulse duration. Group (C): 40 sec., 60 μs pulse duration. Group (D): 20 sec., 700 μs pulse duration. Group (E): 30 sec., 700 μs pulse duration, with different powers used (1, 1.50, 2, 2.50, 3, 3.50, 4) W. And finally group (N): untreated samples representing the control group. Luting cement was applied to laser treated zirconia sample’s surfaces and cured by light for 40 s. Then all sample surfaces were examined under a stereo microscope, for determining the depth mean values of the created pulse holes, for each specimen. The bond between the laser treated zirconia surfaces and the applied resin cement, were examined for all samples by using a universal testing machine, for determination of the shear bond strength values. Six additional specimens: one untreated sample and five other samples that were laser irradiated with the parameters that exhibited the highest shear bond strength values in each treated group, were examined for their average surface roughness by using an atomic force microscope. Another similar six specimens were also examined for their surface morphology, by using a scanning electron microscope. Both surface examination methods were performed by specialized operators. The bond failure modes were also examined by an optical microscope. Results obtained from shear bond strength test and laser pulse depth examination were statistically analyzed. Results: There was significant differences in the shear bond strength values, indicating a clear increase in zirconia-resin cement bonding, especially in group B (30 s, 60 μs, 4W), reaching (8.63 Mpa). Whereas, the control group had (4.49 Mpa), and an enhanced zirconia surface average roughness, that group E (30 s, 700 μs, 3.5 W) specimen had the highest value (14.5nm), among the six examined specimens. While the control specimen had the least value examined which is (3.05nm). Conclusion: A relation between the cement bonding efficiency and the laser treated zirconia surface roughness, laser pulse depths was detected. The Er,Cr:YSGG laser pulse duration and power is crucial parameters in the surface roughness enhancement of the zirconia ceramic.

The influence of sensing element length of no-core fiber strain sensor has been studied and experimentally demonstrated, four different lengths of 125 μm diameter no-core fiber is fused between two standard single-mode fibers and bi-directionally strained, the highest obtained sensitivity was around 16.37 pm με -1 which was exhibited in the shortest no-core fiber segment, to the best of our knowledge this is the first study of the influence of no-core fiber strain sensors length on sensor sensitivity. The proposed sensor can be used in many opto-mechanical applications such as, structural health monitoring, aerospace vehicles and airplane components monitoring.

This study was done to investigate the effect of low energy laser therapy on bone healing at the extraction site. Materials and methods:(24) male albino rats were exposed to the extraction procedure of the maxillary first molar on the first day of a seven day experiment and these animals were divided into two main groups; the control group and the laser group. The laser experiment involved using (Ga-As infrared diode laser) from optodent by directing the probe over the extraction site. The control group consisted of 4 rats, and the laser group was subdivided into 5 subgroups of 4 rats each. The laser dose was as follows: B1: a single dose of 5 minutes immediately after extraction., B2: a single dose of 35 minutes immediately after extraction., B3: 7 doses for 7 days as 5 minutes /day from day 1-7., B4: 3 doses for 3 days as 10 minutes /day at days 1, 2, 3., B5: 3 doses for 3 days as 10 minutes/day at days 4, 5, 6., The specimens were prepared for histological study, then examined under light microscopy, Results: They revealed a difference in the rate of bone healing between the control and laser groups and multiple doses of low energy laser were effective in enhancing bone formation than the single dose, showing that retardation in the healing may be due to the anti-inflammatory effect of the laser or due to upset of inflammation by mast cells. The healing of the bone in (B5) group was much prominent than in other groups. Conclusions: low energy laser may be beneficial in the enhancement of healing which will minimize the infection, and reduce patient suffering and the incidence of post-extraction complications.

Sperm motility disorder is an important cause of infertility in male, and one of the causes of reduced motility of the sperm is the disorders of the mitochondria because it provides the required energy for sperm motility, Laser biostimulation or low-level laser therapy has a positive effect on the mitochondria and led to increasing the synthesis of ATP. Method: Twenty fresh human semen samples were used in this research study, each sample was separated into two portions, one was used as control which is not exposed to the laser beam and the other was irradiated with the wavelength of 410 nm diode laser with an output power of 100 mW and an exposure time of 60 seconds, then the measurement of the progressive motility, non-progressive motility, and the immotile sperm were assessed after 5,15,30 min of irradiation for every control and the irradiated samples. Results: the progressive and non-progressive motility of the sperm was significantly increased following irradiation compared to the control samples also the number of immotile sperm was significantly decreed after irradiation. Conclusion: We observed that a low-power laser of 410 nm wavelength could cause sperm motility to increase for a short time.

preparation of root canals is an important step in root canal treatment. Mechanical instrumentation of root canals cause an irregular layer of debris, known as the smear layer. As a result, several studies reported that preferring the removal of the smear layer. Objective: To study the influence of the energy (100 mJ) of Erbium, Chromium: Yttrium Scandium Gallium Garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) laser at short pulse duration (60 μs) on smear layer removal of apical third after using Photon induced photoacoustic streaming technique. Materials and methods: Eighteen straight single-rooted mandibular premolars were used. The roots length were uniform to 14mm from the anatomic apex and instrumented using Protaper Gold Rotary NiTi file system to size 40 taper 0.06. Er,Cr:YSGG pulsed laser (waterlase iplus Biolase, CA, USA) 2780 nm was used at short pulse duration (60 μs, 5 Hz ,air and water off) delivered by MD/iplus Glass Tips (MZ6) 600 μm in diameter, length=6 mm, calibration factor= 1.00. Ultrasonic activator ENDO1 (Guilin Woodpecker Medical Instrument Co., Ltd.china) was used with Ultrasonic activator tip ED98 (25#, 2% taper, 18.5mm) (Guilin Woodpecker Medical Instrument Co., Ltd.china). The samples were arbitrarily divided into three groups (n=6) and used as follows: (A) conventional irrigation with 5 ml of 17 % EDTA, (B) passive ultrasonic irrigation with 5 ml of 17 % EDTA, (C) Er,Cr:YSGG induced photoacoustic streaming with 5 ml of 17 % EDTA. After final irrigation with normal saline and drying, the roots were painted with nail varnish externally, and 2% methylene blue dye injected into canal until the canal filled with dye. The tooth was splitted at the fourth millimeters from root apex with a diamond disc representing the apical third. Picture was taken by Professional Digital SLR camera (Nikon D7100, Nikon Corporation, Thailand) with 40X magnification. The dye penetration was measured by using analytical software (measure picture CAD-KAS Kessler Germany). ANOVA test was used to analyse repeated measure mean between tested concentration (5.25% NaOCL, 17% EDTA) and control. Data was expressed as mean±SD. LSD (Least Significant Difference) test was used to calculate the significant differences between tested mean. Results: The mean values of the percentage of dye penetration area in two experimental groups was higher than the control group, as the follow (20.79±1.15control, 34.5453±0.45 ultrasonic group, 85.9804±2.69 Er,Cr.YSGG+17%EDTA at 0.5 W). The Percentage of dye penetration in Er,Cr:YSGG laser induced photoacoustic streaming with 17% EDTA was significantly high (P value 0.001), followed by ultrasonic activated group, while control group result in less Percentage of dye penetration than both study groups. Conclusion: In this study, we concluded that Er,Cr:YSGG pulsed laser (0.5 W,5 Hz , air and water off) at short pulse duration (60 μs) with 17% EDTA using PIPS technique for activation of irrigant in endodontic treatment give better result than ultrasonic activation in smear layer removal.

Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common disorder that affects women of various ages and impacts all aspects of life. This condition negatively influences quality of life. Fractional CO2 laser (10600nm) is the recent method for treatment of stress urinary incontinence in women. Objectives: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of fractional CO2 laser (10600nm) in the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence. Materials & Methods: This study was done from July 2020 to February 2021conducted at the laser institute for postgraduate studies university of Baghdad, patients collected from a private clinic and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Al-Kadhimiya private hospital, Baghdad, Iraq. Twenty women clinically diagnosed with SUI preferring non-surgical treatment were recruited to the study, their mean ages 43.6 + 13.9 years. Response to treatment was assessed at baseline and at one month follow up after the third session using a pelvic Floor Questionnaire (PFQ-UI).The laser parameters used were CO2 laser wavelength 10600 nm, power 35 watt, duration 1.0 ms, distance 1.0 mm, scan mode normal, scan times 4 and scan Rows 4,Interval 0.5s. Results: Most of the twenty women included in the study 80 % reported satisfaction and 20% not satisfied with treatment after 3 sessions of CO2 laser four weeks apart. Conclusion: Fractional CO2 laser treatment is an easy to use, minimally invasive and effective option for treatment of SUI.

Pilonidal sinus is a recurrence pathology that affects the gluteal area, cleft part of it. It affects many parts but mainly the sacral area and may present with various forms; from the asymptomatic cyst to severe infection in a form of painful abscess or sinus. The treatment of pilonidal sinus ranges from observation with good hygiene to excision of the sinus left wide incision. Recurrence may follow the excisional procedure and may need more operations. Many conservative ways had been used for the management of the sinus; laser (phototherapy) is one kind that may use. this paper aims to test the efficiency of the laser (diode 980nm) in the treatment of the sinus. material: a study of forty-seven patients complaining of the simple pilonidal sinus was managed with laser radiation of diode 980nm, ages of the patients 17- 41-year-old with a mean of 29.15 (SD ± 5.16), the length of the track between 30 mm to 70 mm. and the mean is 46.13 mm. (SD ± 10.32) all primary except 10 patients were recurrent after treatment. result: the operation was done as a day case, operation time between 6:10 to 14:10 minutes with mean 9:30 minutes. the follow-up of the patients was weekly after seen on 1st postoperative day, with no complication except one infected on 9th day after the operation, which closed on the 21st day after for 10 days with cefixime and metronidazole. the sinus closed in 6 to 30 days with a mean of 12.49. conclusion: laser radiation of diode 980nm can use with good efficacy in pilonidal disease management to avoid the excision of the sinus by conventional procedure which lead to tissues damage, and this decrease the cost, hospital stay, time to return to work, morbidity and complication, we can iterate the procedure without further damage.
