Abstract
This study was conducted on bottle-brush plant Callistemon viminalis to determine the inhibition
activity of leaves extract against yeast using ethyl alchole as organic solvent, and to detect the main
active chemical groups in the plants. The extract showed high inhibitory activity against Candida
albicans and C.kefyr which recorded 28.6 and 24.6 mm at 10 mg/ml respectively with no significant
differences with that of 20 mg/ml. The results compared to that of Fluconazol, Clotrimozole, and
Nystatin antibiotics using agar well diffusion technique which recorded inhibition zone 13,18,21
and 17,13,16 mm for C.albicans and C.kefyr represented. Chemical analysis of plant leaves showed
the major chemical groups detected were flavonoids , glycosides ,tannins , volatile oils , terpenes ,
resins , saponins and phenols while alkaloids, coumarins and steroids were not detected.
