Abstract

The study was carried out to determine the prevalence of H. pylori antibodies in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD), by detecting the presence of stool antigen (HpSA), serum, and salivary anti-H. pylori antibody using ELIZA and compared with Rapid Urease test (gold standard). A one hundred and seventy six endoscopy were carried out for patients with or without chronic liver disease. The result indicated that among 130 patients with (CLD), and 46 patients without CLD, the commonest endoscopy diagnosis by gastric biopsy was gastritis (22.72%), duodenal ulcer (17.61%), and Gastric ulcer (11.93%). The serum antibody positivity was higher (83.0%), followed, HpSA (74.4%), salivary antibody positivity (71.0%) and rapid urease test (RU) positivity (70.6%). In controls salivary antibody and rapid
urease test positivity was higher than in CLD patients, while HpSA and serum antibody was higher in
CLD patients. On the other hand, it was associated with sex and age. The sensitivity and specificity of
HpSA were 94.6% and 91.6%, respectively.

Situation of Rabies in Iraq: A retrospective study 2006-2010

Abstract

Rabies is a highly fatal viral zoonotic disease that is transmitted to human body via the saliva of infected mammals. It is endemic in Iraq especially in rural areas. A cross-sectional retrospective study was carried out in order to obtain 5 year analysis of rabies cases (2006-2010) in the zoonotic section of Center of Communicable Disease Control (CDC), Baghdad city during January 2011. All case records of diagnosed human rabies admitted in different Iraqi governorates hospitals were reviewed and then statistically analyzed. The results showed that the total number of registered rabies cases in Iraq during the included study period was equal to (106) cases, the highest number (27) cases was during the year (2009).The epidemiological profile of patients, showed the predominance of males(91) cases compared to females (15) cases. People at risk were children below ten years of age (35.8%). Distribution of rabies cases according to different Iraqi governorates was highest in Baghdad city (17.92%) and this was directly related to the highest

Abstract

The present study was conducted to investigate the concentration and distribution of four trace metals cadmium, cobalt, copper and lead, in exchangeable and residual phases of the sediment in Al-Masab Alamm and tissues (gills, liver and muscle) of two important commercial species of fish (Cyprinus carpio and Barbus luteus) during summer season 2010. Also the present study include some physical and chemical properties of this ecosystem.
The results showed clear coordination between air and water temperature in all study locations. Air and water temperatures ranged between (34.5-39.31) ºC and (26.22-32.01) ºC respectively. PH, salinity, dissolved oxygen and biological oxygen demand ranged between (7.3-8.6), (4.3-9.01) ‰, (6.0-7.70) mg/L and (2.26-3.25) mg/L respectively. Localized variations were noticed in percentages composition of sediment contents of clay, silt and sand. Total organic carbon ranged between (0.28-1.85) in study stations.
The mean concentrations of Cd, Co, Cu and Pb in exchangeable and residual phases as follow Cd (4.22, 0.14), Co (12.40, 19.33), Cu (4.76, 12.71) and Pb (29.21, 1.85) µg/g dry weight respectively.
The present study showed a difference in concentrations of studied metal in different tissues of fish, these concentrations varies from one species to another and the tissues of same species showed differences in concentration of studied metals. This due to the nature and the function of the tissue and ability of fish on regulating the level of the metals in their bodies during the uptake and elimination processes.

Abstract

Otomycosis is one of the commonly encountered problems in otolaryngology practice. Treatment of otomycosis is challenging, and requires a close follow-up; in addition treatment with classical topical orsystemic antifungal drugs might be associated with problems of resistance, mucosal irritation, and systemic toxicities, such problems necessitate finding new approaches and cellular targets that can beattacked by new drugs. Proton pump, calcium channels and mitotic spindle are potential targets. Aim of this study is to investigate the antifungal activity of some non-antifungal drugs, namely lansoprazple (proton pump inhibitor), verapamil (calcium channel blocker), albendazole and mebendazole(antihelminthic drugs) against clinical isolates of otomycosis. Ear swaps were collected from 18 patientswith otomycosis attending otolaryngology outpatient clinic-Al-Habboobi Hospital. Fungal identification was done depending on microscopical and colonial morphology. Antifungal effect of the tested drugs was assessed by agar well-diffusion assay. Eighteen samples were examined, 13 (72%) of them were positive for fungal growth, 6 were Aspergillus niger , 1 was Aspergillus flavus, 2 were Candida albicans,and the other 4 were Non- albicans Candida .lansoprazole, verapamil, albendazole and mebendazole
showed significant antifungal activity at the tested concentrations against Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, and fluconazole resistant Candida albicans and Non- albicans Candida.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a progressive disease; diabetic foot is the major complication of it, and eventually lead to development of gangrene and lower extremity amputation.
Objective: To study the relative frequency of bacterial species cultured from diabetic foot infections and it's relation to the hypoglycemic treatment Patient and method: A case control study of 95 patients was included as two groups: Group 1: 45 hospitalized diabetic patients in AL-Hussein teaching hospital in AL-Nassriah city with diabetic foot lesions.
Group 2 (control group): 50 diabetic patients but without diabetic foot lesions collected as outpatient from diabetic center in AL-Nassriah city.
All the 95 patients were investigated with measurement of blood sugar (RBS) and HbA1C. Deep tissue biopsies were taken from the diabetic foot lesions of the 45 patients and were inoculated into freshly prepared thioglycollate broth medium. Bacterial species were identified by conventional bacteriological methods.

Abstract

Saponin glycoside compound isolated from Salicorinia europeae L.(Salicornioideae:Chenopodiaceae), that proved by using specific test (haemolysis test,foam test and libermann bruchard test).TLC was used to detect the purity of this compound which give one spot,also IR-spectrum,UV-spectrum,Melting point,solubility were also used to detect the chemical properties of this compound.The antibacterial activity of extracted glycoside was examined against two clinical isolates[Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus] using disk diffusion method. Cork Poorer method was used to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for the extracted glycoside. The study showed that the MIC values of the compound was35,35,55 V/V% ,against clinical isolates Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa respectively.

Abstract

This study is carried out on the epiphytic algae on Ceratophyllum demersum L. that collected from two different stations at Shatt al-Arab River to investigate the variations in quantity and quality of the epiphyticalgae according to location of aquatic plant.
A total of 80 taxa of epiphytic algae were identified at two studied areas; diatoms were the dominant(57taxa) followed by Cyanobacteria (12 taxa) and Chlorophyta (11 taxa).
There were variations in the total algal species at two studied stations. Most of the identified algae wereoriginally benthic but some were planktonic such as (Cyclotella spp.; Coscinodiscus sp.; Stephanodiscussp.; Bacillaria paxillifer and Scenedesmus spp.).
Six species appeared during the study period; which may be due to their wide range in temperaturetolerance. Higher value of BOD 5 (22-15 mg/l) associated with higher quantity of Ceratophyllum demersum.This conclusion may apply on epiphytic algae which collected from this aquatic plant. Abstract

The primary function of Retarders in cement slurry design is to increase the thickening time to allow time for placement of the liquid slurry, The current study to observe the effects of temperature and different concentrations of the substance chrome lignosulfonate used as retarder (one on the additives)to cement class G used in cementing operation wells in oil fields southern Iraq on the compressive strength of the cement .The compressive strength of the samples concrete was measured by UCA equipment with different temperature depending on the depth and internal conditions of the well ( 40C º ,60C ), and
pressuring affixed amount of 3000 psi .The experiments showed that the highest compressive strength was 1308 psi ,3130psi,3200psi of cement slurry where the concentration of chrome lignosulfonate 0.1% at temperature 40 C º ,60C º ,80C º
respectively after a period of curing time24 hours ,while the less compressive
strength within the study was 326 psi , 412 psi , 477 psi of cement slurry where concentration of chrome lignosulfonate 0.5% after curing time 24 hours. The concrete increased as the temperature during the curing time increased within the range studied and decreasing compressive strength with addition a higher level of chrome lignosulfonate.

Abstract

A comparative study for the levels of trace elements in water from southern part of IRAQ for the period of time 1996 to 2010 was carried out to investigate the quality of waters. The study is based on the chemical analysis of trace elements: Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn. For subsurface water samples covered 12 stations along Al-Izz , Tigress, Euphrates, Shatt Al-Arab, Khor Al-Zubair, Shatt Al-Basrah and Main Outlet Drainage (MOD) rivers. Spectrophotometry was adopted for this analysis. The results showed that levels of trace elements were between those for dissolved phase and particular matter of water in region which normally analyzed by atomic spectrometer. Trace elements concentrations reported by this study were higher than allowed levels by WHO and IRPR without any classification of the phase studied. Fluctuation of elements concentrations in the area attributed to metal input as well as geochemical and hydrological
characteristics of the water.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is based on a review of technical literature on the topic of alternative fuel for vehicles (AFVs) which describes the advantages and disadvantages compared to conventional vehicles running on conventional fuels (diesel and gasoline).
In addition, the study included the emissions of a fuel cell vehicle (FCV) and internal combustion engine vehicle (ICEV).Global warming; climate change, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and the quality of the air have all been a major concern in the next decades. It is important to identify the major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions in order to develop effective methods and strategies for their reduction. The transportation sector is responsible for a great percentage of the greenhouse gas emissions as well as the energy consumption in the world [18].Ultimately; we will need to replace gasoline with a zero – carbon fuel. All AFVs that have so far been promoted with limited success (electric vehicles, natural gas vehicles, methanol vehicles, and ethanol vehicles) have been each suffered from several of these barriers. Any one from these barriers can be a showstopper from an AFV, even where other clear benefits are delivered. Increasingly alternative economies are being suggested, whereby the growing energy demand of the future is met with greater efficiency and with more renewable energy sources such as ethanol, methanol, biodiesel, hydrogen, wind, solar and biomass. Hydrogen is being promoted as an alternative energy carrier for sustainable future.

Simulation and Modeling of a AC-DC Converter Controlled by Pulse Width Modulation Using Soft Switching topology

Abstract

This work presents the design, analysis, and simulation of AC-DC converter topology incorporating a voltage source converter (VSC) and a direct converter, connected with medium frequency transformer isolation. A control method is studied by which it is possible to reduce the transformer core losses by only magnetizing the transformer when a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) pulse should be applied on the AC side of the system. By alternately commutating the two converters it is possible to achieve soft switching conditions for all of the semiconductor elements. Furthermore, it is shown that resonant commutation of the voltage source converter is possible by utilizing the cycloconverter for short circuiting the transformer terminals.

Abstract

Image classification with the generation of signature to the image. This paper propose approach of imageclassification based on multi-wavelet transform which has a matrix structure, and combines plays a great rolein industrial, remote sensing, and military applications. It is concerned all features that a simple scalarwavelet cannot have at once. A successful classification rate of 98% was achieved with this method.
Also, the Neural Network (NN) classifier is combined with the multi-wavelet transform. The purposedneural network is a feed-forward multilayer. The learning algorithm uses is Levenberg Marquardt Algorithm.It is found that such combination is capable of performing advanced computation and approximates of adesired input-output behavior. The effect of this combination on the classification task is considered an average classification rate of 100% is achieved for Discrete Multi-wavelet with Neural Network method.

Abstract

In this paper we study the effect of projected band gap on the resonant charge transfer when we use the grazing F- CUprojectile on the Cu surface with jellium potential. A wave-packet propagation method is used in the treatment of the resonant charge transfer process (RCT).Our study describe the long interaction time (low collision velocities)and we find the RCT efficiency is drastically reduced by the presence of the band gap. The important parameters are studied such that energy and width as a function to the distance between the surface and the projectile as well as the projected density of state at two different distance near (1 a.u.) and far from the surface (6 a.u.).

Abstract

The determination of the radon concentration that emitted from one of the important building materials
which enter directly in our life, the cement ,is carried out by using Solid State Nuclear Track Detector
(SSNTDs).The samples of cement from different origins {Iraq (UM QASER, KOFA, ERBIL,
SULAYMANIYAH) cement ,Iranian (SHAHREKORD, BOSHER, SEPAHAN,FARS) cement, Indian
(SANGHI, HATHI), cement, Pakistani (EAGLE , CAMEL, FALCON ) cement , Kuwaiti (Kuwait ) cement,
K.S.A.( Al-QASEM ) cement and U.A.E. (STAR, SHARJAH ) cement} are collected. The results show that
the average of maximum value of radon concentration was 37.188 Bq/m³ which emitted from Pakistani
cement, and the average minimum value was 28 Bq/m³ which emitted from Iraqi cement. The range of the
effective dose for workers in this field was from 0.1139 mSv/y to 0.2038 mSv/y and to the visitors of the
locations of the production and stores of cement was from 0.0142 mSv/y to 0.0254 mSv/y.

Abstract

The present study is included evalution activity cisplatine and albendazole in killing of protoscolices isolation from sheep liver In vitro, also studying pathogenic effects on the liver and kidney and activity of them on hydatid cyst number. Also this study improved capability of cisplatin and albendazole to enter the hydatid cyst.
This study appeared that cisplatin has ahigh activity in killing of protoscolices In Vitro which reached for percentage (51.8 , 92.8) % after (1,2) weeks subsequently in concentration ( 1 mg / ml ) in compared with Albendazole drug which reached for percentage ( 26.2 , 54.2 ) % when used it in the same concentration .
The mice when inoculated with 1500 protoscolices in peritoneum and dosage by cisplatin and albendazole each one alone after (1,2, 3,4) months from infection.
The cisplatin caused decrease in hydatid cyst number which it isolated from infected mice in contrast with the mice treatment with Albendazole which appeared number of hydatid cyst near from control group. The histological change in liver of mice treatmented with cisplatin appeared variation in inflammation response but it was less in compared with control group. The infected mice which treated with Albendazole appeared high inflammation response.
The histological effects on the kidney which it was bleeding and necrosis in urinary tubules and the effects and change on the kidney increase with progress infection period.

Abstract

The present study was made to known the effect of Kala-azar disease on some biochemical parameters in children. The GOT, GPT ALP, total protein and total bilirubin were measured in 50 infected children for both sex (21 male and 29 female). The research also included the study of (number of infected children and their ages during the 16 last year and months of year).
The results showed significant increase (P<0.005)in male and high significant (P<0.005)in female in GOT in the infected children compared with health children .The value of GPT didn’t show significant differ in male ,but its show high significant increase (P<0.001) in the infected female.
The value of ALP show significant increase (P<0.005) in infected male, while its value didn’t show
significant different in female. The values of total protein and bilirubin don’t reach to significant level in
infected children compared with control. The percent of infection differ during the last 16 years ago. High percent in the infected male were record in 2007 (64%) and low percent in 1995 (41%), high percent of the infected female were record in 1995 (59%) and low percent in 2007 (36 %.)
The age of children between 1-2 year recorded high number of infection about (961) case , while the age greater than 5 year recorded low number of infection ( 31) case. The month of year also effect on the number of infection, high percent of the infection were recorded during Jenuary (17.7%) and low percent in Augest (2.4%).

The Effect of Profen and Vitamin C on rate of Sperm abnormalties and Weight of Testes and Prostate Gland of Male White Mice

Abstract

The present research was conducted on 36 white mice of similar weights by using one of the non-
steroid anti-inflammation drugs, namely profen. Vitamin C was used to assess the sperm abnormality; the testes mean weight, and prostate gland weight. The mice were divided into three equal groups. The mice of the first group were injected with profen (200mg. /kg. for each), the second was injected with profen and vitamin C (200mg. /kg. for each), and the third group was the control one. The mice of the first two groups were injected, in the peritoneum membrane once a day for a month. The treatment with profen resulted into an increase in the percentage of the abnormal sperms compared to the control group (10.74 ± 1.92 and 4.17 ± 1.26 respectively). The results have shown that the treatment with vitamin C and profen led to a decrease in the percentage of the abnormal sperms compared to the profen group (10.74 ± 1.92). The statistical analysis has shown considerable differences (P< 0.05) for this group compared to the control one; this means that the use of vitamin C with profen decreases the percentage of abnormality effected by profen. Also, there happened a considerable decrease (P< 0.05) in
the testes weight treated with profen (2526.8 ± 6.48 mg.) compared to the control group (3203 ± 9.9 mg.). However, the testes weight was high in the group treated with profen and vitamin C (3245.5 ± 13.8 mg.)

Abstract

This study was conducted to combat Arenipses Sebella and Batrachedra amydraula by covering
bunch palm. The experiment started in March 2009 and 2010 in the gardens of the Aldfas within the Missan province. The experiment was conducted by using five treatments. The first treatment Spray bunch palm nets Pyrethrum and the spray rate of every two months and that in March and may and July and September. the second treatment are spraying pesticide coverage with the lifting of the cover recurring bunch nets sprayed with Pyrethrum mints in march and then covered with bags muslin directly for a period of 60 days and reiterated the steps the same transaction in June.the third treatment is to cover bunch bags beginning of march until the harvest of fruits and fourth treatment is spraying pesticide in question.coverge immediately until the harvest of fruits either fifth treatment of control.

Abstract

About 80 laboratory mice type BALB/c (40 male and 40 female) in age two months (40 animals)and three months (40 animals) before infection with Schistosoma haematobium were it are used in this study, 30 of these animals as a control group, and 50 of these were infected by cercaria of S. haematobium, the body wieght of infected and uninfected mice were measured after one, tow and three months of infection, and the weight of internal organs (liver, spleen and kidney) were measured in the same period as above. The results showed there was effect of infection on weight of body and other organs compared with uninfected mice. The body weight of infected mice was decreased compared with uninfected animals in all study period and in both genera that had the same age. Therefore, the liver, spleen and kidney weight were increased in infected animals especially in the second and third month of infection in. while the weight of liver and kidney of infected mice were decreased in the first month of infection compared with
uninfected mice

Abstract

Introduction: the silent disease (Hepatitis C virus) is considered as one of the major causes of chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis, hence the aims of study to detect Hepatitis C virus among hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis in Nineveh Governorate/Iraq.
Patients and Methods: (80) blood samples were collected from dialysis patients 46 (57.5%) males, (42.5%) females at age (15-60) years, the average age (37.5) years, include (50) heamodialysis patients, (30) peritoneal patients and (100) person from health blood donors as a control group.
We used ELISA version 3.0 to detect anti-HCV and confirm the positive and equivocal results by
Recombinant Immunoblot Assay version 3.0 (RIBA HCV 3.0), and used Reverse Transcribtase Polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) to confirm positive and equivocal results by RIBA technique.
Results: the current study showed significant differences (P≤0.05) between percentage of ant i-HCV and HCV RNA between heamodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and control group. The percentage of anti-HCV when tested by ELISA in serum of heamodialysis patients was (48%) positive, (48%) negative, (4%) equivocal, while (2%) positive (98%) in serum of peritoneal dialysis, (1%) positive, (99%) negative in control group. We used RIBA technique to confirm positive and equivocal results in ELISA the results showed (44%) positive, (52%) negative and (4%) equivocal between heamodialysis patients, (2%) positive, (98%) negative between peritoneal dialysis, while showed (1%) positive, (99%) between control group.

Abstract

The present study was designed to determine the toxic effects of Acrylamide on Liver and Kidney organs functions and parameters blood in female rat, as well as, the evaluation of the benefit role of Propolis in relieving these effects in female rat. The results revealed that in studied, which were as follows: Significant decrease (P<0.05) in body weight, body weight gain compared control group.Significant increase (P<0.05) in Liver weight and Significant decrease (P<0.05) in kidneys weight compared control group. Significant decrease (P<0.05) in RBCs count, Hb estimation and PCV, WBCs compared control group. Significant decrease (P<0.05) in total protein and albumin compared control group, and significant increase (P<0.05) in total globulin, Creatin and Urea compared control group.Significant increase (P<0.05) in ALT, AST enzymes compared control group. The histopathological results revealed a blood vessel congestion and tissue hemorrhage, in each of liver, kidneys, as well as, while the tubular epithelial cells suffered from necrosis. The hepatocytes showed a necrotic and degenerative, and an increase in the number of kupffer cells. On the other hand, the results revealed that supplementation of porpolis with provender will
relieve the toxicological effects of acrylamide, in all parameters included in this study. It can be concluded that the exposure to porpolis present led to an toxicological changes, while Acrylamide supplementation relieve these effects, as well as its role in retention of Acrylamide.

Abstract

This study was conducted in AL-Qaraf region, Thi-Qar province, to study the effect of earth fertilization by Urea and Humic acid on some chemical/physical properties and yield of cow pea. A local cultivar of cowpea was planted during autumn seasons of 2009 a factorial experimental design within R.C.B.D with three replicates was used with two factors. The first factor was the Urea (46%) with three levels (0, 10 and 15kg N/ dunam). The second factor was the humic acid with three levels (0, 300 and 600 g / dunam). the result showed that :( 15kg N/ dunam) and (600 g humic acid / dunam) treatment gave asignificant superiority on the all studies characterstic (the ratio of protien , carbohydrate content in cowpea seeds tissues , leaves content of (NP-K) and (The mean number of nodules , branches/plant , leaf area and plant height respectively) also ( the
pods weight /plant and gave higher total yield (1.77 ton/dunam) (1.52 ton/dunam) respectively) as compared with other treatments . Interaction treatments result showed that; (15kg N/ dunam) + (600 g humic acid / dunam) treatment gave asignificant superiority at (the ratio of protein, the mean number of nodules), and for (leaf area as well as branches/plant and plant height) respectively as compared with other treatments. (10kg N/ dunam) + (600 g humic acid / dunam) treatment gave asignificant superiority on the other studies characterstic with( carbohydrate content in cowpea seeds tissues .

Abstract

This study was conducted in three sites of basrah fields (Hartha, Shutt Al-Arab and Abu-Alkhasseb , during the growing season 2002 , to vestigated the agriculture site on physical and chemical properties of date palm fruits cv . khentar at the Chemri ,Khalal and Rutab stages ,The results showed that the site was had a significant effect on physical and chemical properties of date palm cv. Khentar .So the statistical analysis results showed that there were a significant difference among sites in physical and chemical properties of date palm fruit in Abu-Alkhaseb site had significant effect compaire with other sites.

Abstract

The adsorption of atoms on the surface and its effect on the charge transfer process in the hyper – thermal energies regime, is one of the most important subject in surface physics especially in studying the effect of electron – phonon coupling. And to study this effect due to the recoil of the adatom through out the scattering of atom from surface covered with low coverage , Anderson Hamiltonian is used which incorporates the interaction of the scattering atom with the adatom and the interaction of the adatom with the surface atoms. Since the atom is scattered from the adatom and the charge transfer happens through out resonance and quasi-resonance charge transfer. The Hamiltonian incorporates also the electron-phonon coupling interaction .The system of equations for scattered atom-adatom/ surface is treated using the wide band approximation.
