Abstract
The results of this study for inhibitory activity of Thymus vulgaris oil extract for Escherichia coli , Salmonella entritidis
, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus bovis by using turbidity test (measurement of light density) showed decreases of
light density of bacterial growth from 0.760, 1.179,0.185 and0.193 to 0.190, 0.138, 0.050 and 0.075 at dilution 1:10 for
Escherichia coli , Salmonella entritidis , Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus bovis, respectively. Also this study
showed that the minimum inhibitory concentration of these bacteria were 0.060 at the dilution 1:50 , 0.045 at dilution
1:45 , 0.022 at dilution 1:45 too and 0.030 at the dilution 1:50 to the Escherichia coli , Salmonella entritidis ,
Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus bovis,. respectively
The result of disc diffusion test showed that the inhibitory zone for the Escherichia coli at the dilution 1:10 (37mm) this
result showed strong inhibitory effect of the extract and this inhibitory effect continued until the dilution 1:35 in
comparison of antibiotic cephalixine. The zone of inhibition for Salmonella entritidis , Staphylococcus aureus,
Streptococcus bovis were35mm, 40mm, 36mm respectively at the same dilution and this inhibitory effect continued to
several dilutions in comparison with the antibiotic (cephalixine and ampicilin)
