Abstract

In this paper we consider the Pareto distribution of two parameters , since it have many applications in economics (income and distribution of wealth), human population and many other fields. Estimation of the distribution parameters is obtained by two methods namely the modified moments method and the maximum likelihood method .
Approximation to the mean and variance of the estimators is made theoretically by utilizing Taylor series expansion up to second order derivative and results assessed practically by using Monte Carlo simulation. Two applications related to Pareto distribution are discussed namely earthquake and dilution of concentration in the liquid.

Abstract

Breast cancer is the main cause of death for women above age 40. In this paper a method is proposed to develop a Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CADx), this method provide a second opinion in microcalcifications diagnostic and making decisions (classify microcalcifications as benign or malignant). The proposed method for microcalcifications diagnosis splits into three steps: The first step extracts the region of interest (ROI). The second step is the features extraction, where we used a set of features from (ROI) by applying wavelet decomposition. The third step is the classification process where discrimination between benign and malignant is performed using a Nearest Neighbor Classifier. The proposed method was evaluated using the Mammographic Image Analysis Society (MIAS) mammographic databases. The proposed method has achieved satisfactory results.

Abstract

Currently, multimedia technology is widely used. Using the video encoding compression technology can save storage space, and also can improve the transmission efficiency of network communications. In video compression methods, the first frame of video is independently compressed as a still image, this is called intra coded frame. The remaining successive frames are compressed by estimating the disparity between two adjacent frames, which is called inter coded frames. In this paper, intra frame was transformed using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). The disparity between each two frames was estimated by New Three Step Search (NTSS) algorithm. The result of the Motion Vector (MV) was encoded into a bit stream by Huffman encoding while the remaining part is compressed like the compression was used in intra frame. Experimental results showed good results in terms of Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), Compression Ratio (CR), and processing time.

A prototype Multicast Chat System (MCS) has been developed to test the capability and suitability of multicasting. The prototype was developed using the Java language. The benefit for this prototype is multi diverse users can be connected without necessary needs for an Internet or Web-server, and thispaper describes the overall work for IP multicast for advantage and disadvantage based on chatting process and simple security algorithm.

Abstract

This paper presents a comparative study between two famous types of clustering algorithms. These types are the automatic and non-automatic clustering algorithms.
The comparisons concerned some different criteria such as: dataset size, clusters number, execution time, results quality and accuracy. An effective automatic clustering algorithm is chosen as a sample for the automatic clustering techniques, while the well-known partitional K-Means clustering algorithm is taken as a sample for the non-automatic clustering techniques. The two chosen algorithms are implemented on the same database (ORL) concerning the human face images. Some conclusions are extracted to the performance of this implementation. MATLAB version (R2010a) is used to achieve the purpose of this paper.

Abstract

The advent of portable computers and wireless networking has lead to large growth in the data analytic due to the inherent flexibility offered. Most wireless networks are built around an infrastructure, where all communications is routed through base stations that act as gateways between the wireless and wired network. However, there may be situations in which it is impossible or not desirable to construct such an infrastructure.
In this research roaming technique in the wireless local area network were investigated, however an scenario of two sub network including two access points and the distance between them ( 2000m ), where the first sub network contained one access point and eight work station mobile while the second sub network contains one access point and four work station mobile. To record computers roaming from one sub network to other and vice versa two work stations would be operates as traffic destined.
The proposed scenario analysed (using opnet modeler 14 software ) by transferring first sub netwok computers group to the second one, the data traffic reduced till zero at the first access point after 25 second, which represent the time required to leave the last computers and rested at second sub network location, further more data traffic will be increased and doubled at second access point after roaming operation accomplished.

we propose minimum spanning tree algorithm which that capable of Segment with Extraction of connected boundaries for Skin Cancer Image Segmentation . The algorithm is proposed to create a graph using the local features minutiae points in skin cancer as objects image ,one can draw a map connect these point so the work will be able to segment any part of the skin cancer image by finding the map of the part by minimum spanning tree algorithm. The performance of the proposed detector compares favorably both computationally and qualitatively, in comparison Object Detection with Connected Components which are also based on surround influence .The last stage contains Extraction of connected components skin image edge detection . The proposed scheme can serve as a low cost preprocessing step for high level tasks such shape based recognition and image retrieval. The experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Different algorithms and techniques were applied on more than 20000 records collected from different hospitals and clinics around Iraq to study the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms including Most Common Value, overall average, and classification.

The Use of Dynamic Sliding Window with IPSec

Abstract

IPSec (IP security) technology is used to protect the local computer networks and the internet from attacks. The most illustrious attacks against networks are the replay attacks where IPSec technology introduces a solution called sliding window through which the packets will be protected. This window involves packets each has a distinct sequence number. This sequence number prevents replay attacks. But, there is a problem related to this solution: when the packet is received late it will be discarded whether it was good or forged. This usually causes a big losses in the good packets. In this paper, the researcher discusses the use of the dynamic sliding window which is a window added to the original one. This window keeps most of the good packets that have been discarded (reorder packets) and which comes before the original window. The dynamic window moves automatically with the original window. This dynamic window makes the modified protocol introduce the best solution which is more efficient than the original protocol since it keeps a large set of good reorder packets. It has been found that the dynamic window saves more than %85 of the reorder packets.

Comparison of various types of Cutting boards in bacterial contamination

Abstract

The goal of this research was to compare contamination rates or recovery of bacterial
contaminations on four types of cutting boards (CBs). Total plate count was
performed after applying food for 15 minutes.
The contamination of plastic boards was greater than wooden CBs for meat and
chicken. On the contrary ,application of vegetables showed contamination rate on
wooden more than plastic boards. Results also indicated high contamination rate on
glass CBs of chicken. Finally Stainless steel showed the same degree of
contamination in respect to the three types of food applied.
Experimental contamination with E.coli and Salmonella spp. interestingly revealed
that contaminated wooden boards with E.coli gave a recovery of less than half the
CFU in the control. After 5 minutes , and growth was ceased after 15 minutes.
Contamination of wooden CBs with salmonella spp. Showed a decrease of CFU after
an interval 5 minutes. On the other hand, plastic boards had a high recovery rate after
5 minutes. Results of this study strongly recommends using wooden CBs for a more
safe and hygienic material used in the kitchen.

Abstract

The objective of this study was performed toextract the phenolic compounds from
Mentha longifoliaand Mentha spicata, and to shed a light on their activity against
oxidant- antioxidant status and their effect on lipid profile in female rats. Two doses
(200 and 400 mg/kg) from each plant were used and the animals were injected
intraperitonially for 30 days as one dose/day. The results showed a significant
decrease in the MDA and CP of the female rats treated with phenolic extracts of M.
longifolia at dose (200-400) mg/kg and phenolic extracts of M. spicata at dose 200
mg/kg, and a significant decrease in the serum level of cholesterol and TG of the
female rats treated with phenolic extracts ofM. longifolia at dose (200-400) mg/kg
and phenolic extracts of M. spicata at dose 200 mg/kg, and The results showed a
significant increase in the HDL and a significant decrease in the LDL with phenolic
extracts of M. longifolia at dose (200-400) mg/kg when compared with control
group, which treated with normal saline. While the female rats treated with phenolic
extracts of M. longifolia and M. spicata at dose (200,400) mg/kg showed non
significantdecrease in plasma VLDL, when compared with control group.

Abstract

Ovine theileriosis is an important tick-borne disease of sheep in the world, caused by Theileria hirci (T. lestoquardi). The disease is economically important in small ruminants, particularly in sheep, causing clinical illness and mortalities in Middle East, west Asia, subcontinent, parts of Africa and Mediterranean Basin. The present study was carried out to determine the infection rate of theileriosis in sheep in East, west, north, south and center of The_Qar province by clinical signs and using microscopic examination of thin blood smears (ME).A total of 1400 sheep from 5 flocks (distributed in East, west, north, south and center of The_Qar province). Blood samples were collected from jugular veins of 580 infected sheep (diagnosed by clinical signs) ,blood samples collected in tubes containing EDTA. These samples were used for thin blood smears for ME (microscopical examination) by using Gemsa stain. Results showed the high infection rates were indicated in July, August and September (98 %, 45% and 55%) respectively, while the months March, April, May, and June were indicated lower percentage ( 10%, 27%, 25% and 30%) respectively, for this the total rate of infection by this parasite in sheep of Thi-Qar province in year 2012 was (41.42%) , this ratio is more than others in the last twenty years.

Abstract

With improvement in economic and living conditions of the communities, the age of
acquiring hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection is shifting from early childhood to adolescence and
young adulthood. Such epidemiological shift leads to an increased incidence of symptomatic
HAV infection, including heightened risk of liver failure. The present study deals with
epidemiological data for all clinically diagnosed cases of hepatitis A from 2006 to 2009. All
data obtained from epidemiological unit in Primary Health Care (P.H.C) of directory of health
in Thi-Qar province. A total of 415 cases of clinically diagnosed hepatitis A infection from
2006 to 2009 were reported .All cases were showing typical clinical sings of hepatitis. Out of
415, (205) 49.3 % were male and (210) 50.6 % were females. In 2006 the number of recorded
cases is 139 ( 33.5%) , in 2007 the number of recorded cases is 131 (31.57%) , in 2008 the
number of recorded cases is zero (0%) and in 2009 the number of recorded cases is 145
(34.93%) . In concerning with gender this study reveals there is no significant differences
between infection in male and female . this study raveled the number of patient cases increased
in forth age group(15-44 years) this may indicate there is significant epidemiological shift in
Thi-Qar province since 2006 this could be due to sanitation and hygienic conditions are
generally good and infection rates in children are generally low Iraqi peoples since 2003 had
better life style than those before 2003 , mothers became more educated and concern with
hygiene of their children , all reasons which mentioned above decrease infection probability of
smaller age groups and increase the infection probability of older age groups .

Abstract

The incidence of hydatid cyst formation in the eye is extremely low in all hydatid
cysts so that done this study for getting information about histopathological changes
in eye of Ruttusnorvegicus L. that was included group poured with hydatid cyst fluid
and control group poured with normal saline, both groups were examined eyes
sections for observed histological changes after passage limited periods (1 day,3
days,6 days,10 days ). Histopathological examination was not discovered found
histological changes in all their eyes, histological layers such as lens, retina, vitreous,
conjunctiva and lacrimal gland were normal. Hydatid cyst was not seen in the eye or
round tissues of examined animals. After 10 days, necropsy of a specimen for anyone
of Ruttusnorvegicus L. that poured by hydatid cyst fluid , observed found the
minimum hydatid cyst in liver.

Abstract

The present study aimed to study the effect of camels urine as an antibiotics for
the treatment of experimentally infected rabbits in two groups , the first one includes
rabbits infection occurred after induction of E. coli orally with a dose of 1 ml / kg of
body weight , diarrhea appeared after 15 hr. The Secord group of rabbits infected
cutaneously after induction of staphylococcus aureus in burned area on the thigh with a
dose of 1ml / kg of body weight , the abscess appeared after 20 hr. The study showed
that camels urine has a good activity in the treatment of diarrhea after 20 hr. of
administration compared with the antibiotic (Gentamicin) which give the same results
with in 24hr , in the same time, that camels urine showed a good activity in the treatment
of the infected burned skin in 48hr, compared with the antibiotic (Dicloxacillin) which
gaves the same results within 72hr, in the second group of infected rabbits .

Abstract

A comparative physiological study was carried out on the salt tolerance of two plants
species kidney bean ( Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and cow pea ( Vigna sinensis L.) included the
effect of salt concentrations (0 , 50 , 100 , 150 , 200) m Mol / L of sodium chloride (NaCl) on
the percentages of water content , dry matter and some mineral ions ( Na+ , K+, Ca++ , Mg++
and Cl - ) on the shoot system of the two plant species . The results of the study were revealed

Abstract

1 - The effect of aflatoxin B1 and B2 on larvae mortality was different according to
the concentration and the type of the toxin. The highest mortality percentage in
feeding larvae on treated grains with the two types of toxin was 32.69% and 24.44
% with aflatoxin B1 and B2 in the first generation and 21.75 % and 32.99 % in the
second generation respectively .
According to concentrations, the highest mortality percentages was by the 1ppm
concentration were 28.57 and 27.37 in the first and second generation respectively
Compared with control at a percentages of 5.66 % and 3.66 in second generation
respectively.
2 - For pupil stage the average of mortality percentages was 37.22 % ,61.93 % with
aflatoxin B1 and B2 in first generation and 26.3% and 51.30% in the second
generation respectively .
According to concentrations the highest mortality percentages caused by 1ppm
where the 49.57 and 38.8 in the first and second generation respectively Comparing
to control which was 3.33 and 2.66 respectively

Abstract

This study investigated the effects of zinc sulfate on biochemical parameters in male
rats treated with hydrogen peroxide .Animals were divided into five groups (5
animals for each group )The first group was group C as negative control group and
was given only water drinking and the second group G1 which given only hydrogen
peroxide and considered as positive control group while other groups G2, G3, G4
were given orally concentrations of zinc( 25,50,75 mg / kg) respectively, at the same
time hydrogen peroxide was given in drinking water for 15 days. At the end of
experiment the concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), Triglycerids (TG), highdensity
lipoprotein (HDL-C),very low density lipoprotein (VLDL-C) and Atherogenic
index, as well as antioxidant and oxidant glutathione(GSH) and malondialdehid.(MDA)were measured. Results of the current study showed
significant increase(P <0.05) in the levels of (TC), (TG), (VLDL-C) , Atherogenic
index and in the level of lipid peroxidation ((MDA) while there was a significant
decrease (P < 0.05) in (HDL-C) and glutathione (GSH) in animals which given H2O2
, while the groups G4, G3, G2 have significant improvement in the studied parameters
and this improvement is related to simultaneous adminstration and quantity of the Zn
dose also the results showed that treatment of zinc with hydrogen peroxide at dose of
50 mg / kg has the best results .

Abstract

This study was carried out to show the effect of pyrithroid pesticides Flash (
Alphasypermethrin ) , Sibex (Deltamethrin) and insect growth regulators Match , Dimilin and
biological factor as Beauveria bassiani on Khapra beetle Trogoderma granarium (Everts) . The results showed the effect of pesticides , fungus on egg hatching of the insect it appeared
that Flash brings down the egg hatch to 6.7% While Sibex to 28.3% . the fungus B. bassiana
brings down it to 35% at 2x1010 spore/ml while it gave56.67% at2× 106 spore/ml. Flash gave
95.56, 67.46, 57.98 and 36.46% death percentage respectively at 1, 2, 3 and 4 larvae stages,
while Dimilin gave 41.46 , 22.90 , 10.68 and 5 % death percentage respectively at the same
larvae stages .
The fungus B. bassiana gave 69.11, 45.38, 38.66 and 30.63 % death percentage
respectively at the same larvae stage when using 2x1010 spore/ml. As for adult, the
maximum death rate occurs in Flash 84.54 % but the minimum death rate occurs in Dimilin
67.79 %. The use of suspension of fungus maximum death rate48.68% at 2×1010 sport/ml
and spore/ml decrease to25.71% at 2×106 sport/ml. The insecticide Flash inhibited the B.
bassiana growth to 24.57 % in the vitro . Match gave a maximum growth inhibition of
fungus which reached 56.25 % .

Abstract

The effect of some hot water and organic solvent plant extracts of Ziziphus
mauritiana , Eucalptus camaldulensis and Ouercus sp. in death of the barnacle larvae
was studied for the period from July to September It has gathered many samples of the
barnacle larvae from water uptake of Al-Najebiah electricity station, in Basrah city,
larvae averaged 10 was used at replicates in the control group and the series of biological
control experiments. the results revealed that the hot water extracts had a fatal effect on
barnacle’s larvae. The oak peel extract gave a high rate of mortality of 100% larvae within four hours of exposure at a concentration of 2 mg / ml. and the laboratory
treatment of barnacles larvae with the organic solvents (ethanol, acetate ethyl and
hexane) of the plant extracts of lotus, eucalyptus and cobalt plant oak (peat) separately,
showed the efficiency of alcoholic and ethyl acetate extracts of eucalyptus in killing
larvae of barnacles, as 100% larvae were killed by using concentration of 0.1 mg / ml
within 24 hours.

Abstract

The experiment was conducted in the garden at the teachers training institute at the
growth season 2012.The experiment was design- -ed by Completely Randomized
Block Design(CRBD). The seeds of two cultiv -ated of eggplant were taken they
were: 1- Lot(Number)Melanzana was American origin and signed as No. (1). 2-Aydin
Siyah was Turkish origin and signed as No. (2). Seeds were exposured for three
Frequencies of electric current (1,2 and 2.5)Am for 5 min.to each frequency by using
a machine that gives electric and magnetic current by means of circled wires to study
the effect of these frequencies on plant growth as wall as the control .Then the treated
seeds were planting on 15/4/2012 in the garden, then, they were prepared and
fertilized.Some growth parameters were studied, they were (high of the plant,Leaf
number and dry weight, Leaf area ,radious and number of flowers). The results
showed a significant increase for the vairty 1 at the (2.,5) Am frequency compared
with the vairty 2 and with all the frequencies that given the best values for the studied
parameters .

Abstract

In the present study investigated the effect of camels milk of in histological
changes of kidney of female rats that treated with cows livers infected with Fasciola
gigantica . The first part have been treated with temperature (100) centigrade while
the second did not treat to heating .The treatment laboratory rats by sweating of livers
treated and non treated by heat were caused different histopathological symptoms in
kidney tissue performed haemorrhage among glomerulouses , necrosis of kidney ,
absence of glomerulouses , enlargement of space Bowman's capsule ,perfect closed
,degenerative,hyperpigment and hyperplasia of renal tubules, aggregation inflammatory cells and fibrosis . From other hand, the treatment with camel's milk
was improved in histopathological changes. The treatment of female rats which
treated with cows livers infected with Fasciola gigantica by camel's milk caused the
improvement of these histological changes and repair the histological damages .

Abstract

The present study aimed to determine the concentration of 4 trace elements
(Pb,Cd,Cu and Ni) in the falling particulate and soil in Vicinity region of brick
factories in Al-Islah district in Thi-Qar governorate , during the period from
Autumn 2009 until Summer 2010 . Samples were collected from six stations ,
three station with the wind direction and the other in opposite region , while the
seventh station was chousion in right on the wind direction about 3 Km for from
the brick factories. The results were showed regional and seasonal variations in
the concentration of the mentioned metals in both types of samples . The means
annual concentrations of (Pb,Cd,Cu and Ni) in particulate were
(111.76,4.14,24.98 and 82.43) μg/gm dry weight respectively , while their mean
annual concentration in soil were (245.38,6.92,61.30 and 131.17) μg/gm dry weight respectively . Low mean annual concentrations were recorded in station
7 (reference station) there are (34.31,2.21,19.41,27,2)μg/gm dry weight
respectively. The study showed that particulate matter and soil in the study area
recorded higher concentration from the studied elements, while the reference
station was recorded lower values for all metals under the study . Significant
correlations were observed between metals concentrations in particulate and soil
.In conclusion the effluents of bricks factories contribute clearly in supporting
the soil by the studied metal through the precipitate particulate , because of the
operation of these factories was by heavy fuel . Also in despite of the higher
concentration of the metals under the study , but their concentration were in
acceptable range , when they compared with the other studies ells where

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of heavy metals on germination and growth of Zea mays. Six concentrations (2,0, 1.5, 1.0, 0.5, 0.25, 0) mMol/ L of heavy elements, nickel, lead and cadmium were used. Germination and length of shoot and root system, as well as the fresh and dry weights of shoot and root for Zea mays. The results showed that the high concentrations of nickel and cadmium elements caused a significant reduction in the percentages of germination compared to the element of lead. Also, the high concentrations of heavy elements caused a reduction in both the length of shoot and root, fresh and dry weights for them, and the effect of lead was less than that of nickel and cadmium elements for all treatments.
